I've just raced against one of the guys on here for I think the first time, and you can see the difference over a lot of the other guys I've raced online

@Magburner - great race for a lap and a half or so, the 'Vette and the Elise seemed pretty evenly matched! Apologies for knocking you in the kitty litter near the end of lap 1; you breaked a little earlier than i was expecting and i couldn't stop/take evasive action quickly enough :ouch: - thought it only fair I wait until you got back on the track.

What happened on the start finish straight though? looked like that Black car (Evo?) took you out??

Yeah, there's a good philosophy of racing how it should be done on here that rubs off on other members, not all but a lot of them.

i raced you!!
i was running a white nsx-r :)
i clipped your side on the chicane in the last lap, terribly sorry 👍

and i also raced magburner...

Yeah, I end up actively looking for GTP forum names now when Im online, Ive been in a few races with Magburner and I had a few great battles with DrTrouserPlank.
Theres a few other people Ive seen in the same races, but I cant remember them all. I accidentally knocked a couple off, so sorry to those people! Ive tried to pull over and give you a place back when I could!

I have seen a few members online now, and at least you know things will be a little fairer. Having said that, there are still the same morons who drive in the opposite direction, punt you and spoil it.

Anyone else come across a guy called Zabeu (I think he is from South Africa?) - great fast racer and clean. I had a few races with him, and all were fun, and he waited when he punted me by accident.

I wonder if when private races come online if we can search by the GTP prefix - that would ensure a great race, as at the moment, I play fair and dont intentionally punt, but you always seem to lose out when others have no compunction about doing it. I mean its so annoying when you get held up by a slower driver, and wait for a fair pass when the delay allows someone to come up behind and punt you at the first opportunity they are close enough. *sigh*

I agree with you about not intentionally punting, I try to take the racing line brake in good time etc, only to see half the field wall riding past me! oh well I'll stick to my way of driving like you I will draft to get past and if someone does it to me I will let them past and not block them, you just draft past them on the next straight!

Roll on invite only racing!

I'm a newbie, but I totally subscribe to the principles you guys are touting here. I'm sorry to say my style has been quite aggressive so far, but that's only because I've been playing the beginners' courses, and those tend to be populated by people (like me) who have just finished playing Burnout Paradise. I would much prefer playing with others in a fair-and-square no-punt or -shunt manner.

First though, I think I need more practise!

On a different note: I was in a race the other day where some joker was driving the wrong way around the track! What is the purpose of this? I can only assume it was to deliberately get in the way of other people trying to have a fair race. I can't understand why anyone would want to spend four or five minutes of their live logging in to online games, only to try and piss people off! There are some weird people out there ;-)

I don't like that neither, people driving the wrong way or what have you. Lets just try and have a good fast clean race.Sometimes I've knocked a few people off by accident and am sorry but wouldnt do it back for revenge though.I for one think driving online with GT5P, bar the laggy bits, is great fun and very addictive. Plus your money really racks up fast if your in the top 3 at the end. Lets keep up the good fun and good racing..:)

No worries pal, I'm still getting used to the corners at Suzuka, so maybe it was a little 50/50. I do remember you knocking me off, but I wasn't cursing or anything like that (sometimes you know when you may have made a mistake). You are right about the mini-battle we had too, it was good, and it shows how sportsmanship can thrive in a game like this even if it is mired down with talentless losers. 👍

As for the black Evo... I don't know about you, but I'm finding that Evo's are fast becoming the new 'Elises' Of GT5:P. Thanks for taking the time to apologise, and good luck out there!

PS: I'll add you to my buddy list if you don't mind, so maybe we can meet up some time and continue that battle... 👍

@TwinSpark: I remember racing you, but I can't remember if I have knocked you before. I might have, if I have, then I apologise. 👍 I'm a reformed racer now ;)

@Ardius: you still driving that XKR? I haven't seen you at Daytona for a while, where you been hiding? :sly:

Another tale of woe
-------------------

I accidentally knocked a guy off between the first and second corners at Daytona, and he spun pretty badly into the infield. I noticed he had gone off, so I came to a complete stop to let him past. He was in 1st place when I knocked him off, so I thought it was only fair.

So I sat there waiting for him to get back on the track , and I noticed him getting closer and closer, until BAM! He rear-ended me sending me shooting off at 160mph (and into 3rd), and himself spinning back into the infield!

If I cause mistakes, I will stop. If they take my kind gesture as an open ticket to attack me, then I let them pay the consequences!

One last tip before I go, and this is almost a cert. NEVER, (and I mean never) trust a guy that has his name as his PSN! I have noticed guys that use their real names are far more likely to be dirty racers. Of course there are exceptions, all I'm saying is be prepared for the punt!

Had a good race with Scaff this afternoon - Thanks !...

First time I've spotted a GTP'er online !...

I stop too when i crashed into someone (except when it's because he lags or when he deliberately blocks me when i'm about to overtake)

But I noticed that some people will think that when you stop, you're just waiting for him to get past, so that you can ram him again.

Hey! That sounds like a direct attack! I may have accidentally hit someone once or twice, but I'm not blacklist-fodder just yet! I keep my nose clean when out on the track!

hey I'm useing my name as my PSN name as well.......I'm off to buy a 111R right now so as not to disapoint ya magburner LOL

The first time I've come across a GTP'er online as well. We had a good race and I have to say rather than taking Flerbizky out when I left it a bit (understatement) too late braking for a corner I put myself into the gravel. I just can't deliberately let another driver suffer for my own mistake.

Ended up finishing dead last, but that was less to do with my encounter with Flerbizky and more to do with a backmarker who was intent in punting me off every time I passed him.

As I said to Flerbizky in a PM earlier, I'm another one who can't wait until we get private races, when you get a good clean grid its stunningly good on-line; but a grid even sparsely populated with 'crash-monkeys' is just a nightmare.

Scaff

Crash monkeys ROLF.....are they the french veriety? close relations of the surrender kind? LOL

 I should just keep my mouth shut shouldn't I?

 Like I said there are exceptions, but I have seen a very high incidence of punting amongst those aforementioned racers. You guys might be the exception, but I always know that a punt is inbound if 'harryevans' (not a real guy) or whoever is behind me!

Maybe its just me, but it is true, I swear!

the nsx-r outbraked the vette on the chicane
but nop, you didn't punt me, you're definitely a clean driver 👍
thumb's up for you 👍👍:sly:

My PSN is slightly different from my forum name, the i is L(caps just to see the difference).

PSN= nlck09

I may of raced against you guys but I'm not too sure.

@Ardius: you still driving that XKR? I haven't seen you at Daytona for a while, where you been hiding? :sly:

Yup, I can only get on the PS3 at weekends though, thats why you dont see me often.
The Jag is still going strong, just today I won myself a second place in the Daytona PP700! I thought that the increase in PP would push my Jag further down the field, but I guess everyones driving skill is inversely proportional to the PP. I even led a race in 1st for 4 laps before being punted off 3(!!!!) times by Ford GT's driven by maniacs.
Im on all tonight, ill keep driving Daytona and look out for you. I saw PatchySan today on Suzuka, although that race was another disconnect by the host.

I also found out something really cool: The Aston Martin DB9's maxed out PP value is 666 👍

I'm really worried by this trend too. I've been an Evo user since day one of GT5 Prologue when Elises are the norm. I never used anything else other than an Evo(apart from the one off Lexus IF drive in Daytona) Now the tides has turn as more and more are choosing in particular, the Evo X Tuned car. I just hope they don't garner the same bad reputation as the Elises which put me in the same line by default. :nervous:

I dont agree, from what ive seen, there isnt much of a trend anymore. However, there does seem a very high amount of F430s around.
At least its better than before with the Elise-spam.

Have to be honest I've started using the Elise quite a lot more online (used to use the R8 as it had a nice balance). I'm finding the settings i've got for the Elise keep it, on the whole, quite stable (until i get one wheel on the green stuff then i'm eating a tire wall sandwich :ouch:

@ TwinSpark - yep thinking about it I may have raced you a couple of times now :) No problems whatsoever; its like Magburner said, you kinda know when someone hits you on purpose! Hopefully we can have another close one again soon - an NSX and a tuned Elise seem to be quite evenly matched on a track like Suzuka with the PP set to 700!

@ Magburner - feel free to add me to your buddy list; maybe next time we can get it to last for more than a lap and a half :sly: Do you tend to just race on the one track or do you mix it up a bit? Definately agree with your comments on the Evo (cue new thread...haha) but I've had some good races with a few Evo drivers as well.

Look forward to racing against more of you guys in the near future!

The main reason to choose the Evo X is probably the fact that it's very easy to drive moderately fast, giving the less skilled players a chance of doing reasonably well. It has an edge over most cars when exiting tight corners but a good driver with some RWD hardware will leave the mediocrily driven Evos eating the dust with relative ease. The hard thing is carving through the pack of them without getting thrown off the track by the overconfident guys in their super stable cars with ASM on.

i've also raced hereward and his plain beautiful 512 bb :D

Had a few races with you twinspark, a gent as allways on the track, as for the 512, Thats been put away till the 700pp limit drops, you'll see me around suzuka and HSR in the F40 or something else not the norm LOL, seen a few GTP guys online and not had any problems with any of them, some hard racers who will swap paint but nothing that puts you at any disadvantage or will threaten to take you off, I drive slower cars and tend to start at the front with a loww PP and finish midfield so I'm used to making room if I see someone who I would have to deliberatly block to stop them getting by LOL Although I have been known to dive off line abruptly only to watch a rear punter go screaming past into the gravel, funny to watch but costing me a fortune in wingmirrors LOL :sly:

Same for me, I need to watch how I deal with overtaking though, especially on Daytona and High Speed Ring, because I slipstream someone and then slam the brakes to get down to my lower cornering speed and wham! Sometimes its their fault, sometimes its mine. Some people need to learn that not all cars can go the same speeds around a corner, although I probably need to learn this too. :scared:

I know what you mean, some guys you can anticipate, and some cars you know roughly where it'll brake, can catch you out sometimes and you end up punting someone who brakes way earlier than you anticipated, 50/50 race incident although the guy in front probubley dosn't feel this way. I usualy back off and let them back in front if there put at a disadvantage because of it. there are those though who just don't realize what there actions will inevitubley cause, at daytona braking to drop in the bend to block means you have to get on the brakes really hard to just avoid hitting them and taking the pair of you out! Racing with the same guys for a dozen races you all get to know each others limits and the racing is seriously close and safe, randoms thrown in together with varing performing cars and accidents happen!

the nsx-r outbraked the vette on the chicane

thumb's up for you 👍👍:sly:

Yeah, I remember you now! Good cornering at the chicane too, I was impressed with your manoever! I was thinking you were going to slow behind me, and then, What the heck! 👍

I'm still a little coy when it comes to the late braking there. I'd rather go in very slow and hit each apex easily than steam in and make a meal of it! 👍

The Evo X is a quality car, and used properly it is a killer. I too raced an Evo X before the update, but not so much any more. Don't worry about being tarred with the same brush, its your racing that will determine how respectable racers view you. Hope to see you on the track sometime! 👍

Sure thing pal! 👍 I was going to add you last night, but I got home from work, had a race and crashed out for the night! I woke up at 4am with the TV and PS3 still on!

I'm looking forward to racing you again, because I like the battles more than winning. Don't get me wrong, I love winning, but having a nice little battle with a driver about the same skill level or a little better is sublime! 👍

:scared:

 Daytona is becoming a bone of contention with me since the last update because I can race that track even faster than before, but the inexperienced racers out there make racing this (anything but simple) oval a real drag at times.

For instance, last night I was drafting first place into turn 1, and I was easily doing in excess of 200mph. There was a GT40 Test car in my tow, that had followed me down the straight (and through the pack). I know he had the possibility of eclipsing my speed before the turn, but I thought my superior corner entry skills would prevail. They did, but he must of drafted me until there was almost no daylight between us, and shot past me low on the inside.

I decided to hold steady on the racing line easing off the accelerator, and spooling down my speed until I was close to 190mph - my target apex speed for turn 2. The guy in the GT40 had skilfully managed to to bring his car back onto the racing line about one and a half car lengths ahead. I assumed he would ease off slightly, and then power out of the apex as I was intending to do, but no, he applied his brakes fully!

At speeds in excess of 190mph, there is nothing much you can do to avoid that kind of reckless behaviour. I couldn't swerve to avoid him, my steering was locked on the racing line. I couldn't brake, because there were cars behind, so I took the only option available to me, and that was to accelerate into the back of him. I could of free-wheeled into the back of him, but that carries risks, and would more often than not, cause a RWD car to bobble, and the back could swing out.

Levelling the accelerator at 50% (a deft feat on a sixaxis in a split second), I aimed for right centre of his car (to send him slightly down towards the apex). Unfortunately, I hit left centre, and sent him flying off to the crash barriers.

I thought about stopping to let him regain his place, but as this was entirely of his own doing, I chose to carry on the race. That guy exited the race, and I went on to finish in first. I think I made the right decision under the circumstances. Remember, what I described happened in the space of probably 1-2 seconds. :nervous:
