Playing devils advocate and with reference to the original post, from Magburners point of view, two GTP racers admitted knocking people off the track in the first 3 posts, some people might well take the view that it's the GTP racers who are overly agressive.

What a bunch of rubbish. I have the us version so naturally i now have no chance of running into you guys out there! (no pun intended) seriously big vote for cross theater play. PS if you think the Eu drivers are bad, have a go at the drivers in the states. ive made it a point at taking very late apexes in the first few corners, it helps to put the potential rammers into phased mode.

All in all another vote for private rooms here.

although, i just had a few great races, i think lower numbers are key. I just had a great couple of races against a gent in a white vette. if one of us would go off being a bit brash, the other would wait for the competition to catch up, so the game of cat and mouse could begin again. Truly great fun! 👍

I think I'm gonna be sick listening to all this mamby pamby I'm sorry I put you off the track rubbish, It's racing, it's a game, it's a racing game, it's only three laps, do you guy's remember EVERY single race you've had online?

:yuck:

I've encountered 3-4 guys with [US] after their name...

Am I the only one who thinks the region lock is maybe a little flawed ?...

No it's not, they are probably using their US PSN account (it's easy to make one).

Of course they did, but it wasn't like anyone was gloating. People are always going to be punted off the track, its part and parcel of online racing. Its how the situation is diffused that sets us GTP racers apart from everyone else. 👍

In World War I it was consider unsportsmanlike to shoot at the pilot of a plane you were fighting against. Any where else was fine, just not at the pilot! Why not just kill the pilot and be done with it? The same applies to online racing. ;)

There is nothing 'mamby pamby' about admitting to your mistakes. It shows maturity and respect when you apologise for your errors. 👍

As for remembering every race, of course I don't, just the good ones! ;)

Just in case, I am not an official GTP racer but I am usually online:

bavma03

I've noticed that there was one GTP racer in the beginner group; and since it is always hard to race clean, we had a close race but was shunted off the track..

I'm usually in the pro levels; shame there aren't more people online in the pro groups.

gtp_hayabusa is a very good racer as is a german dude who drives a yellow corvette - i was going to get his name as he was very courtious but the idiot hosting quit before the race ended.

I just raced GTP_hyperuk and watched him drive into the sandbox on the first turn on Suzuka :)

What online races are you guys usually racing in? I haven't spotted any GTP members, or atleast I don't think I have.

man, I wasn't as lucky today. All I got to be today was getting punted every second corner.

I must admit, I lost it once or twice yesterday with those cheesy punters. I descended to their level (in retaliating), and made myself look stupid. :(

One think I have noticed is that the Germans are without a doubt the most honest, racers in the game. I've never had a single problem with any of them, and most (if not all) have driven clean, and showed great respect on the track.

This is how it should be. Now If I could convince some of the more aggressive compatriots (I regularly tussle with), to be a little more sanguine then those mighty cogs that are GT5:P's online mode might well turn a little more freely! 👍

I'll usually be in the 700PP at Suzuka in my pearl white Evolution IX /Tuned ! :-)

And usually finishing no higher than 4-5th behind an army of Clios !..

Mostly, me and Magburner are on Daytona Speedway PP700, but I'm only online at weekends.
I have raced a lot on both versions of High Speed Ring and Suzuka, so people may have spotted me there too.

Ive recently found that the Jaguar is great for PP600 and the Aston is better for PP700. Pity there isnt any Professional PP600 races yet, they really need to expand all of the events for each difficulty level.

Best Online race results so far:
2nd out of 11 with Jaguar XK on Daytona Speedway PP700.
1st out of 9 with Jaguar XK on Daytona Speedway PP650. (twice achieved)
1st out of 8 with Jaguar XK on Daytona Speedway PP600.
2nd out of 12 with Jaguar XK on Daytona Speedway PP650.
Seems that you love the XK, How is it? I was bit disappointed not to see the XK-R :( I might get one soon (in game that is ;))

You'll see me at the High Speed Ring PP700 cruising around in my Audi R8, usually get about 4-5th place.

Its a nice PP600 class car really. It has all the characteristics of a FR car but with less power than most of the competition. Its only let down is the lack of power really, if it had more, it would be able to challenge the rest of the pack better, but we'll have to wait for the full GT5 for that.
Still, its a good car and no-one uses it online, so its nice to see it in the top 5 every now and again, Im sure many people are surprised that such a "lesser" car can beat Ferrari's using 700 Performance points by using only 619. Daytona Speedway is where it does best (as you can see), because its lacking in acceleration for the tracks with actual corners, High Speed Ring isnt so bad though for it.

I'm moving away from it now though, I'm starting to use the DB9 more because it has better power and handles almost exactly the same.

Oh, and I'd like to see a Jaguar XKR-S more than anything in the game, but I'd accept a DBR9 too.

I agree with that, I've never been needlessly had off the road by any German racer, only the occasional accidental tap. I can be confident when they're behind that I won't get punted off. Never had any problems with Italians either. Unfortunately, this is more than can be said for certain other European nations. Including the UK.

saying that one country is better than the other in regards to how they play online is crazy!!
I mean, I have seen quite a few Italians driving like muppets
the only good thing about having their country shown in their username is when/if they DO punt you off the track you can sshout 'french c#@~' , 'spanish @a~=*&%' etc at the telly lol

You can shout that at the telly all you wish but I was merely making a statement on the quality of driving from many, many races I've done. There are certain nationalities that consistantly display bad racing etiquette whereas others are usually okay.

And I find it interesting the two nationalities that obviously came to mind first in your post...

mmm i think those 2 nationalities came to mind because those were the 2 languages taught at my school ?? :) was just a random choice really
infact 2 of the best races I've had that I can think of have been with a brit and someone from france

I think there is a coralation to a nation and it's gameing habits online. there will allways be idividual protagonists but I personaly have found the Germans to be the best people to play online, and that goes for many game types. I'm afraid to say the french and italians from my experience are a nightmare in shooting games although driving games they are good on the whole with the french being a little better than the italians (at this point can I say this is about behaviour not skill) The skandinavian countries are what I consider to be good guys as well. Unfortunatly the Americans are complete muppets in FPS games....sorry but my time on various racing games has but me up against some cracking american drivers. The British? well I am from the UK and personaly I play clean as do people on my friends list.........unfortunatly we seem to be in the minority as the majority are a nightmare! This is just my personal opinion from my own experiences and dosn't stereotype a whole nations gaming habits.......that should cover my arse in a disclaimer kind of way LOL

My main haunts are in my sig, and I play the EU version. Unfortunately there's no set time to when I'm online, though Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are more likely because I don't work those days.

Hereward: As far as racing games go those observations are pretty much shared by me. I agree that drivers from the UK seem to be pretty shocking a lot of the time. From races I've been in, the Italian drivers seem to behave okay but there aren't that many I've raced against online. Which is more than can be said for another Latin nation in my experience...

My fellow countrymen are some of the most vindictive and spiteful of all racers. I have had good experiences with the Italians, mostly good with the French, and (until I understood their mindset) so-so experiences with the Spanish.

The French and Spanish racer I encounter are aggressive drivers, but not mindlessly aggressive. I've come to the conclusion that they race with 'passion'. That is they are honourable, until they are beat. They will admit that defeat, but might give you the odd cheeky little knock as you fly past. Then they latch on to the back of you to regain the place they just lost. I don't mind that, as its part and parcel of racing. Deliberate shepherding off the track is a different matter though. 👍

I agree about the 'passion' thing, but I think beyond that there is an element of "if I can't have this place then you won't either". The number of times I have been rammed whilst coming past on a straight or ran into the back of when I'm braking by Western European racers is ridiculous. I certainly don't want to tar a whole nation with the same brush and I have raced the occasional Spanish or French racer who has been quick and fair, but it's unfortunate that to me a large proportion have tarnished their country's image by dirty racing.

Well this was a bit of a surprise from a GTP er!!!

http://www.stonemonkie.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/unexpected.mpg

4Mb video.

I know I'd messed up the corner a bit was was there any need for that?

That's certainly a not-impressive bit of driving, but...

In online it can be hard to see - due to lag - where your opponent is when they're somewhere the game doesn't think they should be going, so he may not have been aware of exactly where you were. Also, as the driver who went off, it's your responsibility to recover to the track without causing an obstruction.

I'd call it a racing incident, exacerbated by online mode. Neither of you behaved badly and the fact you both occupied the same bit of track at the same time should be put down to just misfortune.

I didn't see the racer's name when I viewed the file - who was it?
