For me it's always the same story: Whenever a new sim comes out, I'll buy it like a stupid sheep. I also buy all DLC's for the sims that I don't particularly care like AMS2. I think I have all classic tracks because I want to support the project. I really respect what they have done with classic F1. I just don't like how AMS2 drives. I always thought AMS1 drove better and felt better. Of course I play my own AC seasons a lot and I think AC is a superior plattform for classic F1.

The only sim I completely gave up is iRacing and I unsubscribed. Not because I didn't enjoy the online races but because I'm mostly just offline season player. Or then a hotlapper.

LeMans Ulitimate
Now my biggest crush now is LeMans Ultimate. I think it's the best sim since ACC. rFactor2 arguably has the best FFB. If AC1 FFB is 90% RF2 is probably 91%. And they have been smart and took RF2 FFB to LMU. AC EVO force feedback at the moment is ok but not as good as on the original AC1. Why don't they do the same thing?

LMU has pretty good AI and the GT3 cars are the best in business. Some cool hypercars too like the Valkyrie. They're great to drive and have amazing traction. IMHO LMU's GT3's beat iRacing and ACC GT3 cars narrowly. I don't know if they're more realistic but I enjoy LMU's a bit more forgiving approach. The cars are controllable and fun to drive. On iRacing you can very rarely save the car from the oversteer. On LMU you can but it still feels very solid to drive... not like AMS2 where the physics feel quite bonkers. AI is not that fast. You need at least level 95 to have competitive races.

The only issue is that there is no championship mode and not many free tracks. For offline player it's not a great sim yet. But it's worth buying just for the enjoyable driving.

I love RF2 but using the menus is like Chinese water torture. I rarely play it anymore.

Assetto Corsa Competizione
Last week I just beat my 2 year old record times at Hungaroring and Barcelona by over 0.5 seconds. I also managed to do Nurburgring GT at 1:56:88 with the 911. I know the pros do that time 20 laps in a row but for me it was a good time.

Assetto Corsa EVO
I also enjoy the EVO and driving the 964 Turbo. That's quite challenging to drive and I think they have captured quite well the essence of that car and its pendulum rear. I'm sure EVO will be a great sim, just nothing like AC1 with unlimited modding capabilities. I don't think EVO will go that route. But it's still early access so we shouldn't (generally) be so harsh of its issues. AI is still garbage but it hotlaps really nicely. I really like that they got rid of that mandatory career / earn points and buy cars mode. If I want arcade gimmicks, I'll play GT7.

F1 2020
What an amazing game this is. I had this on a PS4 back in the day and finally managed to source the PC version (it's a rip don't tell anyone). EA doesn't want my money and they don't offer it on Steam. There's no way I'll buy garbage like F1 25 for 100 euros when I can play this. This was even better than I remembered . Everything works perfectly (ERS, DRS), races are easy to make challenging, pitstops are great, AI is decent (although maybe a tad too aggressive) and when you make automatic DRS/ERS you get more challenging races. Sure the FFB is numb but it's precise and accurate. Trust me, this is very good game and (imho) does way too many things correct that AC can't emulate on modern F1. It's very hard to go to drive post 2015 seasons on AC after playing this as everything is so well done. This was the last one made by Codemasters before EA took over and you can see the downhill clearly. With 2020 they really did the only good game of the series. Actually 2021 was still decent but since 2022 it has been very half assed product. They never managed to duplicate what they did with this game. Ironically it was the COVID year so the race calendar is not accurate.

PS: I even have a mod that has 100% correct sponsors for each track (no idiotic EA game labels anywhere). I just can't get the F12020 SimHub leaderboard to work. If someone has a working one please share. The vanilla scoreboard is horrible.

DiRT Rally 2 and RBR
DR2 is one of my all time favorite games. Looks amazing, drives ok (yes the FFB is not amazing I have a small deadzone on center which I can't fix) but it's tons of fun. I do time trials and being a Finn of course I love the snowy roads. Sometimes I still launch Rallysimfans version of RBR, trying to beat my crappy times but it frustrates the hell out of me. DR2 is forgiving enough and perhaps a bit "arcadey" in some ways but it sure is fun. What an amazing game.

I also reinstalled GP4 and the original RF and some great mods. I used to play those sims a LOT back in the day. Such classics. But you have to tweak with the pedals in order to get GP4 working with Thrustmaster. Too much hassle. i'd love to try GTR2 again but it doesn't work on Windows 11 (sticks to the graphics car selector and doesn't advance).

Besides AC these are my most played racing games. Actually I only play racing games, nothing else.

I still haven't bought EA WRC rally game. It's 80 euros. I don't want it that much. But I will pick it up if I catch it on discount. My brother says it's very good.

Please share what you drive daily/weekly.

Thank you for this thread and for your post.
Like you I exclusively play car racing SIM.
I would gladly play motorcycle game, but I would need a good driving interface, which I do not believe will be available in my life time.
I play mostly in VR, but also indulge in pancake every once in a while when seeking a more relax experience, like for example with a cup of coffee early in the day.

What do I have in my collection.
By order of played time.
AC
ACC
AC Evo
AMS2
PCars
PCars2
PCars3
R3E
RF2
Race07.
I have to mention that I have also played extensively but not any more.
GT5/6
NetKar Pro
LFS.

AC, 7000 hours, the GOAT, I like everything in it, yes even the AI, :D
The VR, on my RTX 4070ti Super/G2/Open Composite is the best VR by quite a margin of all titles.
The driving feeling on my Fanatec DD is the one I prefer.
Of course the content is unparalleled in this universe. Enough to say that even one of my local favorite road is in AC, so is my car and almost all of my previous cars, and of course all the tracks I have had track days at.
I wish that we would have an option in CM that would automatically point to what ever we did not touch even ones in our huge car collection, I am still downloading almost every day, ok a lot are content I have but that has been improved, but new (to me) as well. I know that when my SIM days will be over, I will still have a lot I have not touched.
(more to come)

ACC, my second most played SIM, way over 1000 hours.
I like it but it also was a disappointment. From the UE engine issues, particularly in VR, to the way it drives, better than the rest but not as good to me as AC. I love that the complete saisons are offered, with all cars, track, skins, rules, weather. All with Kunos attention to details. I threat it as I would a mod for AC. Not always in the mood for racing in all the details, but when I do, ACC can fix that itch. Very disappointed that Kunos decided to drop it, as I would be glad to give them money for new season, new or additional tracks. Unfortunetly, ACC doesn’t not have the support of the modding community and can’t be saved like AC was when Kunos decided to let it go.

AC Evo, already played more than the other, mostly because it is new, but also because, on my set up, even the VR is quite nice.
The driving is very enticing to me. I think Kunos are onto something, time will tell.
Lately I mostly played AC, but for a while I spent a lot of time in Evo.
It is in infancy, with a long way to go, particularly since development is advancing at glacial pace.

AMS2. As demonstrate the following title I have played the most, I like the madness engine. When I tried AMS2 at launch, I hated the driving feeling, Reiza eventually made it into something I found acceptable, but nothing more. The VR, when I used GTX 1080ti/Oculus CV1 was as good as it gets, since my G2, VR is much sharper in AC.
AMS2 is a nice distraction, but I never drive it very long or very often.

PCars, I have a soft spot for PCars, at the time, before AC/CSP had night and rain, the madness engine was feeling a gap. The VR on CV1 was quite nice, the driving was relax and the AI had its moment. Overall a nice vacation from my main SIM. Today, at full everything on pancake, it looks nice, romantic. On G2 VR the glaring graphic issues are unbearable. The first but not last title from SMS left to rot.

PCars2, it has its moments, same issue as AMS2 and Cars, did not age well. Some content are nice to visit once in a while, the sunset on CV1 could be spectacular, but too many issues of z fighting, popping, to enjoy with G2. Pancake is working well with all settings at Max. An other title left to rot.

PCars3, so simple and straight forward in pancake, VR is horrible.
Almost not a SIM, but like McDonald, can be surprisingly satisfaying.
Some content are better than expected, feels like a dirty pleasure.

R3E, played a lot, because I have had it forever, was my go to for DTM, when I did not have the content in AC, yes, that old! Was working fine in VR in CV1, but does not work at all with G2. Drives OK, nothing really special, AI is a mess. Ultra limited content in my install.

RF2. Never understood the appeal, was super bad as a game, is better now but still retarded. Just never had time to waist trying to understand why some people are praising it, when I could have so much more fun with AC. Funny that back then the cars that the RF2 fans praised are now considered scrap, only the latest is said to be so realistic. I tried LMU, not sure what hyper realistic tyre model it was since each seems to be so much more realistic, deja vu feeling, it feels like RF2, with much nicer graphic and cockpit that looks like 2025. As a game it is acceptable, but the limited content and my weak appetite for endurance racing and WEC/IMSA makes it not appealing to me.
Back to RF2, ususaly just launching it when I read a post from a fan on something specific to leave it quickly shortly after, scratching my head.

I'd also love to have a good motorcycle game. But I don't want to play it with a gamepad.

Older (post 40) guys like me still remember this Hang On arcade game. Sure there were some even more advanced arcades that were shaped like a bike and tilted to the sides but this kind of yoke would do just fine.

There is that TT Isle of Man game. That is one of the craziest races on existence. With proper controller I'd love to play that.

Hey something different for a change... drag your arses to this thread and tell me what other sims you drive. I'm genuinely interested.

I'm here.

I only have AC, ACC, and AMS2 installed. By order of play time:
1. AC
2. AMS2
3. ACC

I uninstalled RaceRoom due to lack of play time and interest at this point. LMU looks good, but I'm not ready to pull the purchase trigger. I have no interest in AC EVO because it seems like it is going down the Gran Turismo gameplay model and it doesn't offer any content that is new/different to the games I have installed.

Not only driving here :)
I’m from the serious Combat Fly Sim (WW1&2) scene (IL-2 Battle of series, DCS, Il-2 Clod, WoFF) and moved to AC in 2019. Main reason was the bad VR optimization in CFS games and no priority in doing something about that. I noticed that this conservative behavior from those developers did also spoil my pleasure in VR fly sims. Simple implementation from free injectors to reduce aliasing problems (shimmer/flashing/jaggies) or finally convert from DirectX9 to DirectX11 while DirectX12 was already been released a couple of years ago. Spilling lots of labour for minor game aspects, outsourcing to other studios, like Ugramedia who did at that time not have the expertise & craftsmanship. The whole serious CFS scene is more like a dog chasing his own tail and not coming further with something refreshing new, or real improvements, besides repeatedly releasing another plane. Did hope that FS2020 would act as a wake up call for those CFS developers.

After a selection on VR race sims, it was soon clear I did not like modern race cars nor those sterile modern circuits.
My frustration is always bad optimization and aliasing problems in VR mode. Not specific wanting to see the best eye candy in VR, as this is for me clearly ACC in my race sim collection.

AMs2 that gets lots of hallelujah shouting when it becomes to VR. But when still seeing shimmer is absolutely not good for an 2025 game. I rank this under ACC.
RFc2 is something between RRe and AMs2, it’s completely abandoned by the developers/modders and clearly is showing its age. Can only use SteamVR, I would not invest in this game or it is from a Steam sale.
RRe is from all the VR race sims I have, the worst in VR. It’s clearly to see it’s an old DirectX9 game and also SteamVR only. Great to try all the DLC’s at a limited period for free but give me call when DirectX12 has been implemented.

AC.
what I do like besides the old preWW2 race cars and ditto aged tracks is the possibility to completely adjust the game as you please. Not pleased with the FFB, cars physics or AI, it can all be adjusted or use a app/mod. The big amount of mods can be overwhelming, that's why I always advise test it on beforehand, not good direct delete it. Seeing lots of jaggies, shimmer, razor sharp 2D & low poly objects like Rainmakers & Gilles’75 converted tracks or incomplete buildings, hovering objects like from Ginot team, then simple delete those mods ASAP. Bad made Cars can be used as grid fillers, bad made tracks only for hilarious purposes like Mario or Donald Duck racing with your children.

What would I like to see more or being introduced as a mod for its AC lifetime extension:
  1. More use of the typical track sounds like the specific tone from the circuit announcer. Guys who did race know that feeling hearing that typical unintelligible announcer speech from the circuit speakers at the starting grid.
  2. Moving and “doing something” crew at the pits and grid.
  3. More moving objects like windmill or ferries wheels, at some tracks these are only static.
  4. Introduce the last DLSS/FRS/XeSS version and other modern graphical injectors.
  5. Convert AC to DirectX12 ultimate.
  6. Better CPU multicore use.
  7. Logical organization of all the settings in CM, right now it’s a complete mess.
  8. To keep a better overview in CM, possibility to remove the not needed settings like gamepad/Logitech/Fanatec/monitor related stuff if you use a Monza gear & VR mode.

Wolla!

Played GT3 cars at Spa on LMU 4 hours straight today, just practicing. Then I went straight to ACC Spa and the differences are quite dramatic.

What makes LMU better is the superior FFB and the fact you can control the car with trailbraking and steering way easier and more naturally on LMU. When you go wide and the car becomes understeery you can save it much easier and keep your car on the track. It just feels more natural and controllable just like the original AC.

ACC is way less forgiving, I never liked its FFB and LMU has really nailed the kerbs. It might be the only sim where the kerbs are not crazy slippery. You can utilize them so well and use the track fully. There's Coach Dave's default settings which are quite good. I only changed the brake bias and lowered TC a little but his setups are pretty nice. Just reduce the fuel and you're good to go.

Ironically I still couldn't beat my ACC best times. I'm about 1 sec off on LMU.

These days you have to make an exceptional sim to stand out and make it even remotely popular and I think they have done just that. It constantly has very good Steam numbers. Now we only need some more offline features.

However I'm not sure if the hypercars are that interesting to drive. They look amazing though... but they drive almost like F1 cars. That's probably why I'm much faster against CPU with those as I've driven F1 mods so much. Crazy traction. But the GT3 cars on LMU are amazing.

I'll just list my 5 presets for my Fanatec CSL DD as those are the only games I have right now. I've got Project Motor Cars preordered and at some point I'll probably get Assetto Corsa EVO and LeMans Ultimate.

This isn't the ranking of my favorites it's just the order they are on my wheel.

1. F1 2024. Haven't played it much in the last several months. Didn't see any need to get F1 2025 since there is a new car coming next year.

2. Automobilista 2. I play it a lot. I like it for the variety of cars, classes and tracks and other than some mods, it's relatively low maintenance. I think they do a very good job with classic open wheel. There's a lot of tracks I've never used before.

3. Assetto Corsa. At 305 hours clocked in just over two years I guess I haven't played it as much as I thought I had. I think I'm probably only using 60-70% of the game's potential. There's just so much of it that I don't understand how it works. I've talked about it before. I'm not that confident with computer things and it seems like you've almost got to have a masters degree in computer science to figure things out. Plus I just don't have the time for it as you can see by my total hours played. Visually AC is the best game I've seen. I like the realism that the mods bring. It's when I struggle with things like updating or trying to get something new loaded and it doesn't go right, that's when I get very very frustrated.

4. Forza Motorsport 2023. I think I've got about 520 hours played on it. It's the one game where I've done a lot in career mode which is one reason my hours are so high. It caught a lot of flak early on and rightly so. The AI was a mess. Now it's in a pretty good spot.

5. Assetto Corsa Competitizione. I haven't played this in a very long time. I think the last time I played it is when the Mustang was introduced. AC and AMS2 fulfill my GT3 needs.

I just turned 60 years old last week. I have back problems where I can't really sit in the rig for more than 15 minutes at a time or the lower right hand side of my back just feels like it's on fire. I live in an apartment and to get the rig out to play involves moving the coffee table, setting up the tray table for the keyboard and mouse, sliding the rig in from the little room into the living room. It's a little involved. Plus I work 11 hours a day and by the time I get home I'm exhausted. I might get to play one night during the week and 2-3 times on the weekend. But of everything that keeps me from playing the back issue is the worst. I had to pause at least twice during Forza's endurance races that clocked in at about 45 minutes total.

This is an understandable reaction. Especially on certain cars with default setups. Have you tried a couple of the setup "tricks" that fixes a lot of these default issues yet?

Nope. I can give them a shot.

AMS2 looks amazing, FFB is great. I don't use VR but I've heard it has the best VR. But the car feels like the front end is "floating" constantly and the classic F1 cars act like they're drifting E30's hehe. Constant sliding and oversteering. On the other hand they're more realistic in the sense that you have to actively drive them all the time which actually WAS the case with old 80's F1 cars (just look at the footage how much they steer all the time).

But that crazy "floaty feel" is there. You can drive those cars in constant borderline slide. I've driven a lot of karting in my youth... of course never anything remotely like F1... but I know that they should have enormous grip which is pretty much on/off on all open wheelers. You can actually slide those AMS2 F1 cars around a lot. That feels very weird.

I believe that same thing is wrong with many AC F1 mods too. Most VRC cars drive amazing... they got them right... but many modders have way too little grip on their F1 cars. They probably think making the mod more difficult automatically means "more realistic" which is definitely not the case. F1 cars should be way easier to drive than say, GT3 cars. The challenge should come mainly from the AI difficulty.

Someone complaned when I increased the Virtua Simulazione Ferrari rear wheel grip in my 1998 season download link. He said that "now it has too much grip". How does he know that? In the default form that car was absolutely ridiculously oversteery... had zero traction... almost impossible to drive. Now it's grippy and enjoyable to me, Of course you can still lose the rear but not quite as easily. AC kerbs are way too over slippery and if the rear DX ref settings are low you fly like a pinball on those kerbs. That is realistic? Hell no!

LMU is actually the first sim that has great kerbs in its vanilla form... you can utilize the whole track properly without constantly fearing to lose the car automatically. That sim feels great. AC1 feels great too if the car has been built properly... I think AC1 is still the benchmark but LMU is very close, and in some ways even better. On LMU and AC1 you can sometimes, occasionally save the car when you're "on the edge".. you have that great steering feedback there. For example on iRacing it was impossible when you ran out of tyres... you ALWAYS become a passenger when you lost it... there was no feel on steering. Now they have improved the tyre model I've hear (I dunno as I've unsubscribed already).

LMU is also challenging. I'm still about 1 second off my ACC lap times. For example at Spa I haven't been able to go under 2:22 with any GT car yet... no matter what setups I've tried. But I feel I have that one second still somewhere. It's very addictive to find those last lap times and not frustrating at all. ACC feels like driving a concrete coffin after LMU hehe.

It was funny when F1 2020 came out and Lando Norris (or George Russel, not sure) tested that game and he said that without TC the car feels very unrealistic as it doesn't seem to have grip at all. But he stated that car feels very realistic when you put the TC to max. To me that was eye opening. F1 2020 actually drives amazingly well (albeit having numb FFB) and the ai puts every single "real sim" into shame. AI is amazingly good and smart (can even use DRS/ERS very cleverly to prevent overtaking on straights). Maybe the grip is a bit exaggerated though... we don't know for sure as none of use have ever driven a F1 car hehe. PM me if you want the game (as it's not on Steam anymore).

Look at those guys' incar footage and how they drive those cars... use every millimeter on the track... like machines... 70 laps. Sure they're the best drivers in the world but if the car didn't have that crazy grip they couldn't possibly drive that way and that fast... and so consistently. It's not only about their superb skills, it's also about the law of physics. You can SEE how crazy traction those cars have.

Yes 80's and 90's F1 cars shouldn't be quite like that... they should be sloppier... but on AMS2 their "sloppiness" is way exaggerated. Kunos 98T has superb feel... AMS2 is not even close.

That being said there might be some other cars that are much better to drive. I haven't had much time to play it. I really liked AMS1 driving feel back in the day and I think AMS2 would be much better if they could have duplicated that. But whatever car I've tested I always got the same weird feeling. Cheers.

PS: Just installed RaceRoom back to my computer. It's free now. Didn't test it yet but I heard they improved the graphics. It looked very dated when last tested it years ago. But other that that it was pretty decent sim.

Here's my short list, looking only at the past couple of years, and excluding Assetto from the list (since it towers above all others in play time).

RFactor 2: the FFB here is really, really good. Better than Assetto's. The game itself feels a bit dated, though, and it's not really my cup o'tea in terms of what and where to drive. I end up mainly driving the Honda NSX around the Targa Florio '67, as there aren't a lot of road legal cars that are fun to drive there. That lack of content that appeals to me is probably why I don't play it as often as Assetto. It's definitely worth it for the FFB, though.

BeamNG: I find it funny that BeamNG is the opposite of RF2 for me. I really want to enjoy this game due to the varied content it has, but the FFB feels terrible. The graphics are also bad - not dated, like RF2's, just plain bad. I could overlook that if the FFB wasn't so nasty. I keep hoping this will have an update that will overhaul it. It's the closest to what I like in terms of "regular cars in regular roads", but it just doesn't feel good to drive. BeamNG's content with RF2's FFB would be insane. High hopes on this one, if they get some decent FFB in it.

AC Evo: it's being a disappointment so far. The content drops are far slower than anticipated and most of the tracks there aren't really the type I like - I stick mainly to Panorama. I end up not paying a lot of attention to it, only drive on it every now and then - which is a shame, since I enjoy the old school cars it has. Maybe the Summer drop with Spa will help. High hopes for this one as well.

Nope. I can give them a shot.
I'd like to help you out if I can.
To me there's 3 things that make a big difference in how the cars feel. I'm not happy about what they did with their default setups. But like in most sims, the setups start cautiously and stiff with underinflated tires. I don't know where your level of tuning knowledge sits or what wheel you're using but shouldn't matter to try these out.
First things first I'm using a Custom FFB File that started as rFuktor but I've made my own modifications to center spring and minor other factors. I can share this if you want. There's other Custom FFB files out there and I suggest trying them. It can transform the feel to what you personally prefer.

For the car setups, there's a couple important areas that I feel are way overbearing on the performance of the car. The Engine braking and the differential.
🔹turn engine braking up to 8-9 to reduce it a ton. Even try 10 if you want. (In cars that you can adjust this) This alone is going to bring the car back into a familiar feeling of AC or rF2. The car won't slide off throttle like before.
🔹next for the diff, we need to loosen that too. Put the preload down to 50. Put the clutches to 2. Use your ramps (power and coast) to adjust on power or off power with 2 clutches first and then you can up to 4 clutches if needed, of course some cars don't allow adjustment of power/coast ramps so amount of clutches is all you have.)

These 2 adjustments on the car alone might be what you're looking for.
On top of these, make sure your pressures are in range. I find that just adding about 4-5 clicks on all the pressures right off the bat gets me closer to optimal range. This can be the difference between a sluggish slidey car and one that is more precise and reactive. Better tire patch contact equals more grip. Also I usually go 2 clicks down on the front ARB and 2 clicks up on the rear ARB. Again, the default setups are designed for understeer, this will help loosen front and stiffen rear.

Try these and see what you think. It's not really a per car issue more than it is a Madness Engine quirk. Because these tricks I've found work just as well going back to Project Cars 2 after perfecting my setups in AMS2, even though the physics are loads better in AMS2.

I agree. Better than AC? It's a taste thing. Some people prefer RF2 force feedback, some AC. But it's safe to say both have amazing FFB's and none of the new sim titles have managed to duplicate that quality yet.

Besides LMU. Guess what... LMU has RF2 force feedback and actually good menu system. That menu interface is horrible on RF2. It's quirky and unpleasant to use and it loses my FFB settings occasionally. That's probably the main reason I never played it so much. The actual driving is very good.

I've pretty much given up online racing but I'm 100% sure LMU will threaten iRacing domination in that department. In my opinion it drives better than iRacing. At least it's way more enjoyable to drive. People say the netcode and online races are excellent too. iRacing is too expensive.

@beezer: I have to get into AMS2 one day. I have all the DLC's and I haven't played it much lately. So much stuff coming out all the time. Thanks for the setup tips. I will try them.
