I recently got a PS2 again after missing it so much...

Some of the games I have that I love are
Metal Gear Solid 1-3
GT4 (of course) TDU (Worth buying with me and no 360 nor compy that can run it?)
Ace Combat 5 (Considering Ace Combat Zero: Belkan War?)
Shadow of the Colossus (Any type of adventure games like this would rock too)
God of War 1 and 2
Unreal Tourny, Quake 3, Half Life (Love them oh so very much :)) Black

There doesn't seem to be any racing games that I want that either I already have for another system (burnout/GTA games on xbox) or just do not seem interesting to me.

Zone of the Enders (2 seems to be a lot better) sounds fun...anyone play it?

Also Armored Core seems like a whole lot of fun but there are so many to choose from...which ones are the best worth playing?

And last: I don't seem to enjoy nor have the patience for such games like Final Fantasy nor Kingdom Hearts.

I love racing, flying, sci-fi, and almost any kind of FPS/TPS. Any games like mentioned above that qualify for the AWESOME status...please let me know :)

I liked Ace Combat Zero a lot more than 5; lots of playable aircraft and the best gameplay of the series (IMO) equals a surprising amount of replay value for a relatively straightforward air combat game. Also, I would skip the first ZoE and just buy the 2nd Runner. It's what the first game should have been.

There's always Enthusia Professional Racing, the cult favorite GT clone with arguably more realistic physics than GT4 or Forza 2 (closer to GT5:P). Its dedicated forum here in the PS2 forum would be the place to go to learn more.

Otherwise I would definitely recommend PD's own Tourist Trophy if you have any interest at all in motorcycles. It's not perfect, but recreates the feeling of riding very well, and is the only worthwhile street bike sim that I know of. I simply thought bikes were kinda cool before I played the game, but just two months after it came out it had inspired me to earn my M certification and buy my own bike.

First, I recommend going here and browsing through all of the recommendation topics (sorry to advertise[?], mods, but it's for a good reason! :D).

My favorites (sorry if I list any you already have; it would've been better if you gave a full list of what you already own):

Driving/Racing
- ToCA Race Driver 3 (lots of great licensed tracks you don't get in GT or Forza: Spa, Brands Hatch, Bathurst, Bahrain, Shanghai, Hockenheim... plus a few awesome fictional rally stages and a large variety of race types on and off road)
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and Most Wanted
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix
- Twisted Metal: Black (especially fun with friends)
- SSX 3 (it's snowboard racing, but still great fun)

Shooters
- Area 51 (very underrated, imo. has some great levels, like the staged moon landing)
- Killzone
- Star Wars: Battlefront II
- Resident Evil 4 is highly-recommend by others, although I personally find its gameplay pretty simple
- Medal of Honor: Frontline (kinda dated now, but I absolutely loved it when it first came out)

Action
- Prince of Persia
- Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
- Bully
- The Warriors
- Jak & Daxter
- Sly Cooper

- ToCA Race Driver 3 (lots of great licensed tracks you don't get in GT or Forza: Spa, Brands Hatch, Bathurst, Bahrain, Shanghai, Hockenheim... plus a few awesome fictional rally stages and a large variety of race types on and off road)
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and Most Wanted
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix
- Jak & Daxter

Toca, both those NFSes, and Jak & Dexter are very good. I recommend Jak 1 and Jak 2. Jak 3 was pretty good aswell, but I recommend playing them in order. MC3:Remix? Naw, not really.

I recommended MC3 because it's one of the few fun classic-style arcade racers of the PS2 generation. Rice and trucks aside, it handled very well.

- Any Grand Theft Auto game on the PS2 - they're all brilliant
- Any Timesplitters game - again, fantastic fun, great FPSs
- Need For Speed Most Wanted or Underground - good arcadey fun and great sense of speed. Quite challenging too.
- Colin McRae Rally 04 - immersive rally game, much more so than DiRT in my opinion. Handling is better too.
- If you want something really arcadey, and a bit of a classic, Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast is a pretty good choice.

I'm done, apart from the GT games those are the only PS2 ones I have left that haven't already been mentioned!

I would agree with Wolfe on Enthusia. It's a game that doesn't get a lot of attention, but just the ability to change the grid to your liking would have made it worth buying for me, if I had known about it before. Fortunately I had heard about it somewhere and decided that it "looked cool enough" to buy.

I'm kind of dissapointed that it never caught on.

Never sold in America on the PS2.

Underground 2 is far better than the first Underground.
Also, Red Faction (number 1) was a really, really good game early on in the PS2's life that had a lot of Half Life influence in it.Tony Hawk 3 and 4 are pretty good as well.
On your TDU question, if you can't get it on the PC or 360, you might as well get the PS2 version. It isn't as good, and there are some things cut out, but it is still very much fun.
Also, the Ratchet and Clank games are pretty good. Going Commando is probably the best (with Up Your Arsenal a close second), but so long as you keep to the first three you will be fine.
I would also suggest Twisted Metal: Black.

Thank you for all of your insightful replies.

There are a lot of Armored Core games for the PS2 it seems...which one do you think is best?

That's a pity, it's probably the best McRae Rally game I've played.

Underground 2 is far better than the first Underground.

Not played 2, only the first one. Was 2 the one where they introduced free-roaming? Underground was a great game, until that point I was never too much a fan of arcade racers but that one was great.

Cant go wrong with Tekken 5 or Street Fighter Anniversary Collection if u like fighting games.

Persona 4 is also coming out soon (December 08) if you're into turn-based JRPGs

Last Raven would be the best option.., it's the last Armored Core for the PS2, hence the title. All the parts are there from AC3 - AC: Ninebreaker, plus some additional parts.., i'm currently playing that one right now.., if you do buy Last Raven, give me a PM.., ;)

Racing: Need For Speed : Underground up to Carbon. Whatever you do, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT buy Prostreet or Undercover..,

Sci-Fi: best bet would be Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner.:drool: graphics and SFX if I must say.

Shooter: Call Of Duty : World at War - Final Fronts would be a good one. I think it's the first in the series where you can get hold of a
flamethrower (yes, a flamethrower :trouble:)

Flight Sim: Ace Combat 5 or Zero - have played those two, 👍👍 story and gameplay IMO

i'm still looking for Twisted Metal: Black, the folks at IGN say it's great..,

Marvel vs Capcom 2
Soul calibur 2
Tekken Tag Tournament
Street Fighter anniversary Edition

Timesplitters 2 - Very good FPS, best on ps2 in my opinion..
Richard Burns Rally - Most real rally SIM ever!

Richard Burns Rally - Most real rally SIM ever!
Unfortunatly never sold in the US, but I do agree 100%, best rally sim ever and one I would recomend to anyone who can get a copy (a Sim with no compromise to arcade is a rare thing indeed).

(a Sim with no compromise to arcade is a rare thing indeed).

No compromise other than the fact that the stages are still very arcadey in length. I can't understand why games companies are still making rally games with 4-minute stages when there must be a market for full-length ones. Mobil 1 Rally Championship on the PC did quite well and has a big following even now, and it has 24 mile stages in some instances. We know that players of Gran Turismo, Forza, Enthusia etc love the Nurburgring's inclusion when laps in average cars can take 9 minutes sometimes, or are prepared to do four or more hour endurance races, so would it really kill someone to make a realistic rally game with 20 and 30 minute stages?...

Are there 30min tracks in WRC(not the game)? Thought it was max around 20min, but im not a expert. You have over 10 min stages in RBR , Longest by far i have tried in a rally game.

The modern WRC doesn't have stages much longer than 20 - 30 minutes in duration, however if you go back to the golden age of the WRC you had some seriously silly length stages. Most of those disappeared when the Safari rally was droped from the calender, I do miss the days of 100+ km stages.

100km traks...wow..that must be hard on the car! Searching for my Richard Burns copy now, cant find it:ouch: Wanted to see if gt5 has helped my driving skills. Do you have a link to some tunes to RBR? Im not a ingeneer, something you need to be if you want a good tune in RBR:lol:

sorry being off topic..

I wouldn't mind longer tracks in Rally Games. I liked Colin McRae Rally 3 (I believe is the one I owned) but most of it was done in sections.

I can recommend:
GTA Vice City and San Andreas
FFX,X-2 and XII
NFSUG(the1st) online racing
Burnout3takedowN and Burnout Revenge

Not sure anymore actually, but even 20 mins is better than the five mins max you seem to get in most rally games. I think the Wales Rally GB still has stages almost 30km long. Longest I've tried in a game are the aforementioned Mobil 1 PC game ones, 25 mins in some cases.

If you're into multiplayer shooters, one of my favorites to play with friends is 007 Nightfire. Some of the single-player levels are fun, but I mainly have it for the multiplayer because of the large character selection (with Oddjob you can throw his hat as a weapon) not to mention there are some great maps to play in.

I think Black had a better single player game, but it lacked the multiplayer. TS2 was almost as fun as Goldeneye to just sit around and play deathmatches with friends.

If you haven't played Resident Evil 4 yet GET IT NOW...one of the best games I have ever played, and this is coming from a person who wasn't that into the first three.

All of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer games own too, Zero, 3, Drift 1 and 2 all are incredibly fun.
