Yeah, that's why I asked. If it works for PS2 games, then once I get... oh yeah, backwards compatibility was stopped. Dammit. Who knows, maybe Sony'll put BC back in the PS3 by the time I can get one, so I can import a bunch of PAL racers.

You could try to track down a used example with backwards compatibility. Even if the seller doesn't know, I believe the serial number should be a clue.

Tokyo Extreme Racer 3:great racing game with lots of Japanese and some american european cars.Deep tuning and good graphics

LOlz I just stared playing that yesterday......man its a good game.(especially if your into the Wangan racing type)

TXR3 is amazing X),Subaru impreza and a Toyota supra thats what i got in there

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned any of the Project Zero games. Has anyone else played them? Absolutely terrifying. I'd rate them alongside Ico and Colossus in terms of atmosphere. The fact that you have nothing but a camera with which to combat the ghosts adds to the feelings of fear and helplessness.

Have you got the "Substance" version of MGS2?
Or what about MGS3 "Subsistence"?
Both of these games are X2 more awesome than there basic counterparts.
Substance gives you VR mode, Snake tails and more.
Subsistence gives you 1 extra disc (or 2 extra in PAL regions)
and will give you a 3rd person camera, more "Snake vs. Monkey" missions
and other things!!!

Man, that was long...

I've been playing Pro Race Driver.

It's really good fun, great AI and it works with the Logitech GT Force Wheel.

All of the GTA games from III onwards are pretty much essential

Ico, definitely!

Personally I liked the Driver series on PS2 also, though they got kinda hard!

The Getaway and its sequel Black Monday

Timesplitters 2 is great though honestly not sure it stands up to current gen FPS games (whereas the above are still essential on any platform for other reasons)

The Ford Racing games are a quick racing fix, but really good fun, TOCA series are also awesome and a little more involving

Let's see... Resident Evil 4, Serious Sam: Next Encounter, Jak and Daxter 1-3, GTA games, Sly Cooper games , Midnight Club 2 and 3, Gran Turismo 3.

Test drive Le Mans or some Le Mans dedicated game. I didn't own it but I played it and it was awesome. The one which was a dreamcast port anyways.;)

👍
I love the Dark Cloud games (Dark Chronicle is called Dark Cloud 2 over here).

Thats true. Original title for the Japanese is Dark chronicle, AU & EU also gets the same name. US is what you have just said.

Oh PS2... i miss him.

First you MUST buy Tourist Trophy.

Also: Shadow of the Colosus, Ace Combat (any), Dragon Ball Budokai tenkachi 3, Street Fighter 3 third impact, TOCA Race Driver 3, NFS Underground 2, King of Fighters (any), Metal Gear Solid (any), Enthusia.

And Auto Modellista, this is a GT like, just with toon graphics, amazing, check:

For shooters I have to recommend Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. It has such a great campaign mode but I can never remember the story because I was to busy hotswapping like a maniac.

If anyone has said it already, +1 to them.

The best games that i played on ps2 are:

1- Gran Turismo 4
2- Metal Gear Solid 3
3- Metal Gear Solid 2
4- Gran Turismo 3
5- Toca Race Driver 3
6- Tourist Trophy
7- F1 2006
8- Spider-Man 2 (problems?)

It seems this thread is more about the PS2 than the original post (2 and a 1/2 years ago )

not having a PS3 or X 360, my PS2 still gets a good work out (even if you can't buy sony controllers in Australia anymore). some of my games on cycle are:

Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2
Spiderman 2 (awsome fun just swinging around)
GT4
F1 2006
GTA: San Andreas. (%100!)
some cliche shooters (Black, project snowblind [got them for $5, and still not sure it was worth it])
a WWE game (more real than the thing on TV )
Tony Hawk skateboarding 3
Medal of Honour Frontline (although disk is buggered)

ahh... classic early 2000's games

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 was one of my favourites. The rest are pretty much what everyone else here has recommended.

Some must haves
Silent Hill 2 and 3
Final Fantasy X(really the only newer one I like)
Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero, 3, Drift and Drift 2
Tony Hawks Underground 1 and 2

There are a bunch of PS2 games I still want to get again to play. If only I had the money to fund my habbit.

Soul Calibur II was the best fighting game to embrace my PS2. Best Soul Calibur since 1, even though its missing a few characters like Siegfried. 👍

Recently i've been itching to play
MoH Frontline
MoH Rising Sun
Driver 3
Driver Parallel lines
Mercenaries!!

Ahhh good old days :(

And no one has mentioned Wipeout Fusion yet - great game, plenty of variety for a racer.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System is a great third-person shooter with a fun story and flatulent robots.

All of the Ratchet & Clank as suggested.

There's always Destroy all Humans 1 & 2 lots of fun and graphically not much different from the one for PS3 - some fine humour in there too.

Kaido Racer 2/Kaido Battle 3. It's an epic game if you have the patience to complete it.
