I love that, now that I have built my racing wheel / car-seat set up and with the patches fixing the things that drove me nuts, I am really into this game after two years. I'm only level 30. Bought the game opening day. It says a lot what they've done, even if I can think of a few more things to fix. Not really noticing those things right now. ( play offline only due to web service)
I love being in a slow car mood and building slowly into a fast car mood over a few days.
Lately I've been loving this game. It's about time.

1.The premium cars (well, most of them)
2.Dynamic time/weather,which I was hoping to get since the game's announcement
3.The overall Gran Turismo feel of the game,so glad it's still there(altho' it should be harder to make credits, life is very easy on gt5 )
4.The physics!Perfect balance between simulation and fun!
5.Route X! <3
6.Endurance Races!Love those,almost done :D
7.Pnau-Baby(Breakbot Remix) :dopey:
8.Chrome colors!Race mods on certain cars
9.GT500 on a wet Suzuka on a G27!
10.And last but not least it's lasting appeal! If you buy a game like GT5,well,I'd say at least you'd spend 100+ hours with it.AT LEAST!
These are not all the features, but more like what's coming in my mind right now :p

*Nurburgring and Spa
*Ability to do free mode online
*Weather
*Day/Night Cycle
*Having a few licensed WRC and F1 cars
*Best physics on a console

Those are the things that I feel GT5 does better than any other console game at this point.

Weather: Strictly worse than F1 2011 and 2012. If you need a digital meter to tell how much water is on the track, you're doing it wrong.

Having a few licensed WRC/F1 cars: Are you trying to say that it's better than the actual WRC and F1 games that have full fields of these cars? Admittedly, that's all they have, but GT5 is not better than them a "having a few".

For me the F1 franchise is nowhere near as good as it should be, they only need to make 12 car models (with identical wheels) and about 20 tracks which have been imported straight from the previous game. It should have far more helmets to choose from, a team creator/livery editor, driver transfers and physics at least on the same level as GT5 (for example you can brake and turn in, then release the brake and the car corners faster because the wheels are already pointing in the right direction  ). I know the FIFA games have been going a lot longer but when you look at what they do for their sport in terms of content.

The weather is fantastic. The % wasn't there from the beginning, you used to have to figure out by lap times when it was best to change between tires. Even now with the % display, there is no guaranteed change point that is strictly the best % to change tires. It's a great model and addition to the game.

What I would like to see introduced is weather fronts, so the track can progressively get wetter from one side of the circuit to another, like what they are doing in this years F1 game. And a Weather forecast at the beginning of a race. Such as 'rain expected for 20minutes then dry for remainder of race' This would help out a lot in predicting what tires to start on and any setup changes to be made. Aside from that, there's a lot to like about the weather in GT5

I agree the weather is one of the best new things on GT5 although it could be much better again you got to start somewhere.

I am starting to see people's negativity towards the smoke and things like that it's not the best, but they still started somewhere.

They should get it right with GT6 I bet.

Well its found a way to keep me busy on and off for the past 2 years so I would say its a very special game. With lots of fun and interesting aspects, and being a person who has a real life passion for cars I have applied certain driving styles to the real world that I had come across on GT5 which is something that a video game has ever been able to do for me before.

Lots of dynamics
Great graphics
The Cars
The Tracks
Plenty of different driving styles
Photo modes for added variation
You control how hard the game

Theres more but I think if most people sat back and realized how many different aspects there are in this game they would see how amazing it is. I don't think enough people remember where video games were even a few years ago, we are pretty fortunate to have what we do in comparison to where we were and should learn to be a little more grateful and inspire these devs to do a even better job and not complain about every little thing.

100% agree. Well said. GT5 is in a class by itself.

You're right. I really meant to write something along the lines of "these are the things that GT5 does better than any other driving simulator available on a console at the moment."

(And I don't care what anyone else says. Just because they're less realistic than PC sims does not mean that GT and Forza aren't sims)

I think community is about the only positive. The physics may be the best around, but there are still glaring holes. In every other aspect, other companies are doing a better job. GT just has a bigger, better community.

The Nurburgring really stands out with it's gorgeous time change and variable weather. Racing early in the mourning at the Ring with a light fog? Goosebumps.

I believe PD could have sold a stand alone game with just the Nurburgring and a hundred premium cars and still got good sales

+1.
First time I saw the sunrise after a mild rain was mind bending. My god so gorgeous.

Love the avatar, it's the Schticky guy!!!

- Physics
- Cars
- Painting (even it's limited, it is the first time ever we have possibility to paint our cars)
- Online (New to the serie, huge addon)
- Tracks
- Sounds (I dont have any hard time with sounds, 'cause I keep stock exhaust for em all)
- Nascar, WRC and Formula can be driven on the same race (good for comparisons)
- Photomode (Been keeping Photomode Online up and running with astonishing results)
- Weather effects
- Day / night racing
- Ability to set your own Music list on the backround, love the driving with AC/DC
- Track Creator, overlooked by many, but for me it's a great addon
- 16 cars on a track at time
- Racing suits
- Challenges, Seasonals and Driving licenses

All these are my positives about this game

Photomode,Jazz Music,Nordshliefe,Spa,GTRs.
Graphics(Premium cars in Photomode,or Tokyo,Nurburgring,Spa (dawn)
Quantity of cars(no not Quality).
That's it I think,Physics,damage,weather,day/night aren't good enough or many enough

For me those 2 are worse. Sound is bad but we can accept it.

Painting in GT5 is the worst paiting system i ever saw in a game.

- No preview before purchase
- Only limited colours
- No option to mix colours
- Not unlimited access to one colour
- Paint DLC.

Just my 2 cents

I was just about to come here and post the same thing. 👍

@ ch3ng

I agree, but I'm not to hung up about that more so vs. the rear view mirror issue I got now not the mirror's themselves, but when you look into feels like I'm playing a N64 mixed with PS3 game.

Someone told me that's due to performance issues and what not.

Positives about GT5?

I bought Forza because of it....

The variety. There's a ton of cars to drive, and a ton of races to compete in. You can race F1, NASCAR, dirt, snow, rain, karts, etc. I've had GT5 since release day, and I've never gotten bored with it.

The ability to drive almost any car, some of which you could only ever dream of owning, is something that I have always loved about the Gran Turismo series.

Having as much fun running 2 hours at the Nordschleife in my VLN series, as at any track for 15 minutes like my ITCC series.

The versatility in this game is incredible. It's stunning that, in one week, there are online leagues for Rolex, Touring Cars, VLN, and a tuning series for drivers and team managers.

The versatility and physics have sold me on GT5 instead of Forza.

The night time/rain were huge too; Forza doesn't compare yet.

do online wins count to your car wins..( i know its off topic sorry)

- Ignoring premium/standard divide = fair number of cars to play with.

- 24H and/or weather on some tracks. And a very attractive lighting engine.

- Some premiums are stupendously well detailed and modeled. The former relating to working odometers and clocks.

- Variety of events to do.

- Limited but decent attempts to simulate dual clutches, slushboxes and Evo's AYC system.

This game has got quite a bit better with all the updates. At launch my positive list wasnt very long at all. But the game has improved.

GT5 positives

-AI is a huge improvement from previous GT games
-Graphics are incredible in the photo travel even though only premiums can be taken there.
-Tire audio is a huge improvement
-Tire marks
-Physics are also a huge improvement
-16 cars on track can be a lot of fun
-Interior view is really enjoyable in premiums. Its ok in standards after the black outline update.
-Weather effects even though they are only on a couple tracks
-Day/night racing even though its only on a couple tracks.
-Moving body parts like spoilers and vents
-1000 cars even though only 200+ are premiums
-Tire physics are much better
-Track editor
-Really good online racing lobby system.
-A couple cars have full damage.
-Online random events and season races are fun
-Karts
-Offroad rally events.
-Now we can make money online
-Lots of tire smoke

The online "world"
And there're so many cars, it doesn't get boring.
I started to test all my cars on track. The only negative things are the crash simulation and the sound, everything else is fine, no wait, it's great.
Love it.

POLYPHONY DIGITAL, YOU'VE MADE A GREAT JOB, THANK YOU GUYS!!!

GT4 and GT5 are (in my opinion) the best games ever.

Agree 100%. A sim should give you experience that is similar and applicable to real driving/racing, first and foremost. GT3 and GT4 had an enormous impact on my visit to racing school (my instructor was sure I had raced for real before), and GT5 recently helped me improve my lap times at the karting track significantly (I hadn't been there in almost a year).

Now to the OP, the number one priority for me is the Nurburgring, and it's awesome GT5 now has all its layouts (though a 1976 layout would be cool). And all the Race Car classes are great, some surprised me how fun they are (NASCAR). Time and weather change, that is wonderful as well.

I think the AI is worse than GT4 (infuriating slowdowns) so that needs improvement, and it's absurd that the S Licence doesn't fully consist of Race Cars (I counted - there are four tests out of all 60 that use race cars, and three of those are Rally tests). But I really enjoy and want more of the "silly" challenges (i.e. LOVE the Top Gear type stuff with slow cars and utilizing figure 8 interference).

@ FormulaKimball

I think an even bigger travesty of the License Tests is that you don't need any to race in A-spec or B-spec modes.

A.I has gotten a little better you still need to be on their level to really notice it though.

Totally agree, of course - probably was considered an accessibility issue, hence its not being required.

And I love the actual tests in the S License, most are really replayable and easy enough to gold even with ABS off - just put them in the next tier down. Accessibility is fine but if you call it a "Super" License, it should follow GT4's example - test mastery of the full Nurburgring, achieve high speed lapping of La Sarthe (LMP or Group C), and with Ferrari now on board, make you do at least one assessment in a F1 car.

Not only that, a few years ago games had [detailed] damage and livery editors. GT still doesn't.
while the livery editors were great, the damage and crash physics in many racing games were greatly exaggerated.

Doing one lap of every course with every car in GT5, you will never finish in your lifetime doing such task.
