Not really a whole lot to be honest. DVD+R supports a couple more advanced features, like recording and formating at the same time, and exciting stuff like a different error management system. But for 95% of people they're identical. However, DVD-R was released first, so if you're burning movies for playing on older DVD drives, -R is probably the way to go.
I'm not sure about other countries, but -R is alot more common here also.
