This classic 1970 pair from the Dead, now in the generally well received 50th Anniversary 2020 remaster versions. I always loved American Beauty from start to finish but didn't like Workingman's when I heard it in the nineties. It sounds fine to me now but still not as good as Beauty to my ears.

Spent the last week back in the UK, visiting family for a funeral. Stayed with my eldest brother and his wife, both of whom lived through the 80's punk scene, so the majority of what they listen to is punk.

Thanks to this I ended up with 'Jerkin' by Amyl And The Sniffers stuck in my head. I won't link it here because (even though the YouTube video is censored) it's very, very not safe for work and I don't want Famine giving me more bad points on my profile.

Still a catchy song that'll probably get stuck in someone's head.

I went to see them in London last year, great show. I just love how they got this picture displayed on big posters on the tube, just took a tiny bit of photo shopping to clean it up from the original, and the censors are none the wiser.

Listening to the first three Offspring albums. I liked the debut album but it was kinda backward looking. Ignition I found kinda bland. Smash is of course the band's big seller and didn't disappoint.

[EDIT] Follow up album Ixnay On The Hombre is better than I thought it'd be. I like it better than Ignition. I'm going to try and listen up to 2008's Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace unless they get a lot worse before then.

I saw them them live last week. It was an absolute belter of a show. It's really good that bands like this sound sooo good live... and Dexter and Noodles banter is pretty funny too.

Gone Away done in this style is pure sound bliss (Dexter played piano in the concert version I saw).

I agree with your appraisals of the albums too. On point.

Thanks. This arrangement sort of emphasises the song's melody's similarity to Tears For Fears's "Mad World" but I applaud Dexter for his versatility. He's a solid songwriter and performer.

I don't know if anybody remembers nü-metal but I remember picking up the steelbox version of Papa Roach's 2000 CD Infest on the strength of lead single "Last Resort". Can't find it now so I've downloaded the album again to refresh my tired memory.

Also on this morning's playlist is the debut release from "hardcore supergroup" Rival Schools, United By Fate (2001). Ex-Iceburn bassist Cache Tolman's rapid-fire repeated-note basslines gave tracks like "Travel By Telephone" and "Everything Has Its Point" a slightly reggae feel but "Undercovers On" is probably the track which has stuck with me the longest.

I only get thirty second snippets since my Spotify account was cancelled but this sounds better than half of their debut album to me. AllAboutJazz gave their previous album Speakers In The House a decent review so will try this also.

That one snuck up on me. I was listening to Azymuth Arabutã and that piece was next. Rocking at the Mole House is playing now.

I did the Beatles thing a couple of weeks back. Revolver was recently remastered by the producer's son using cutting edge technology funded by Peter Jackson. Still sounds the same to me. Giles Martin also did Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road recently so gave them a listen too. They're all still great but everyone's heard them a million times by now.

I love the New Orleans Mardi Gras beat they came up with on that track. Meanwhile, "Stoop" sounds like the kind of thing they used to play between races in Ridge Racer Type 4. Very competent, easy on the ear and pretty damned good for a seventy-two year old drummer in Mike Clark.

Hip-hop's never been my favourite genre but I'm gonna give these LPs from the early nineties a spin. I bought Black Sunday at the time of release and it was pretty okay.
