To appease you I'm listening to some real rap right now. Dilated Peoples. I try not to worry about genres. They're useless. Good music is good music regardless of genre.

Actually I lied. I'm listening to Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant. I'll probably stop listening at around the 13 minute mark.

umm...i listen to a lot of rap. half of my 16 gig mp3 collection is rap. RAP, not that pop crap we've been getting in the past 7 or so years. the other half is a mix of trance/techno/jazz. and i also have a little bit of rock splashed in.

snoop is annoying for the most part and only has a few good songs. same with ludacris. He sometimes reminds me of a wannabe snoop

and if i hear chingy one more time, i'll kill someone...he SUCKS, that's not rap, it's pop. the same goes for Nelly and Ja Rule,

listen to some BIG, Nas, Fat Joe, Big Pun, Lauryn Hill, The Fugees, Cypress Hill, DMX, Coolio, Tupac, Big Pun, Xzibit, Run DMC, NWA, The Roots, Bone Thugs N Harmony, and Dr. Dre

do that and be able to appreciate it, then compare to the crap on the radio now. then you'll see what REAL rap is.

do the very same for Trance and you'll find that it's very different and much better than the new stuff since the new musicians are trend whores.

Oh, I disagree. If you're going to do a cover, you better have a good reason to do it, which means you better have some way to make it your own.

Consider: Devo's cover of the Rolling Stones' Satisfaction. Or, for that matter, the Love & Rockets version of Ball Of Confusion, which was originally by the Temptations.
