I know everyone has strengths and weaknesses in their driving on GT5. I was interested in what strengths and weaknesses have developed for different drivers on GT5.

Post you main strengths and a good description of each one first (2 at most), then post your main weaknesses and a good description of each one second (2 at most).

Strengths

1. Clean Battles -
I am great when it comes to driving against other drivers at close proximity. If me and another person are fairly evenly matched and we can't pull apart from each other (bumper to bumper close through corners) when driving fast, and we can't make contact because we are clean & professional racers, my driving becomes very strategic. I can easily change my driving rhythm to be fairly erratic, which can throw off the following car, and if it doesn't and they get by, I can immediately change back to a smooth rhythm and usually tail them very closely. I've also used drifting to block the entire corner, preventing the following driver to attempt a pass without a possibly collision occuring, but, I don't use this often because it is just cheap.
I am good at messing with the mind of drivers, I will disorient other drivers with inconsistency and/or trickery.
One of my "signature" tricks is this:
If a section of numerous corners is approaching, and I have someone battling me and he is right behind me, I usually decide to use this trick. Since it is a clean race, contact between cars is frowned upon, so I use my position in front to mess them up, because most drivers concentrate on the lead car when in a battle, and lose focus of braking points on the track. I will consistently brake earlier than I need to when approaching corners, but, taking/blocking the inside line and not allowing them to pass me, so they start having to brake early as well, which will hopefully irritate them because they want to go faster, which will make them more likely to lose focus on the track's actual braking points. Once I feel like they are annoyed throughly and ready to make a pass of any kind, no matter what happens, I make my move entering then next corner. I move to the outside entering the corner, opening up the inside line for an easy pass, but, this time I brake at the true braking point for the corner. Since they are used to me braking quite early, they brake at a point after I brake, which is usually a braking point that is too late to get through the corner effectively. Once, their car gets by my car entering the corner, I drop the car into the inside line because they have overshot the inside line, and I usually pass them back up. This messes with the overall focus and rhythm of the other driver, it is also a completely clean way of driving "dirty" because it is messing with their mind if they aren't paying attention to what is happening.

2. Clean Passing -
I am good at passing other racers without making contact with them. I have been able to make passes through track sections where there was little room to pass, but, I managed to just get through with nearly no room to spare.

Weaknesses

1. Far from being one of the fastest drivers -
I am not the fastest driver. I am pretty fast, but, I am far from being the fastest driver out there. I rather have a fun time then focusing on how I can truly make myself a faster driver. I usually end up in a position in the middle or bottom half of the field.

2. Tail Happy Driving -
I love to drift, and sometimes I just do it while racing, and it doesn't always turn out well, as you'd probably image.

Strengths

Car control- No car, no matter how tail happy or over powered it is, can defeat my counter-steering skills.
Late braking-I can brake with inches to spare before the turn in.

Weaknesses-
Not breaking soon enough- while I can brake well, I usually plow into the middle of the turn.
Racing line- I like to go fast, Right through the middle of the racecourse.
Suspension tuning- If only tuning in gt5 was like real life, then I could at least set a car up to behave how I want it to.

Strengths;

sA) Consistency with times - They may not be winning times as much as I'd like, but I prefer clean unscathed races crossing the finish in top 5 (of 12) than to lose it completely to come in last. The lap has to feel right from the beginning to push yourself further.

sB) Respecting track sections - Way more often than not, taking some particular corners at 85% , is often more rewarding than failing them too many times at 95%

sC) Trying out lesser used , powered tail happy cars on the Nur, and adjusting them to some degree, to make them competitive out there. (recently held my own in a '66 Cobra, against a very good LFA driver), I know this Cobra has massive potential, but the risk is high.

Weaknesses;

wA) Tailgating too close to potentially slower driver. I'm working on this, and more often that not, the opportunity to pass safely will present itself. Otherwise, I cause great pileups taking all out behind me when sticking too close to that car that often ends up sliding off track 'or braking when I don't' at that time.
/working on this.

wB) my steering angles aren't aggressive enough, I enjoy using as little input at the wheel as much as possible to achieve good speed through some sections, but sometimes, the opportunity presents itself that may require a greater steering angle, and I simply don't use it. (understeer to loss for no good reason)

wC) surviving the Nurburgring Carrusel. Often times I whisk through it at 105km'hr, and often times I lose control in them at only 85 km'hr. It's inconsistent, and hard to find the winning line every lap around. It does make this game so great :) Same for the 2nd mini carrusel,

Strengths
1.) Tuning - I know how to tune cars pretty well, so 95% of cars I can probably make somewhat comptetitive within their category.
2.) Umm.... yeah....

Weaknesses
1.) Precision - Both with and without other drivers. I quite often end up hitting other drivers because I can't control my car very well. I also can't hit apexes and such too well.
2.) Raging - I ragequit too much. 'Nuff said.

I will consistently brake earlier than I need to when approaching corners, but, taking/blocking the inside line and not allowing them to pass me, so they start having to brake early as well, which will hopefully irritate them because they want to go faster, which will make them more likely to lose focus on the track's actual braking points.

Lol! Try doing that to a fast person and see what happens.

^ I will repectfully assume your weakness of precison has nothing to do with the resullt of your tunes above :)

Lol! Try doing that to a fast person and see what happens.

I've done it before. I did it on Saturday. I blocked an entire field of racers by not giving them a good opening to pass me in the corners cleanly.
The race was at Nuburgring 24H, so the strategy was effective. Though, in the straights, I ended up getting passed by the faster racers.

If there were any people in the field that raced in real life and you blocked them then they would have spit you off into the armco in the blink of a eye. A protective line is ok but it'll set you up bad for the next corner and they will get a nose in.

I'll just list my weaknesses:
online pace and tuning, those two are connected in my case.

That's why I practice everyday.

Strengths
1. Looking forward, as in visualising what I think the other drivers will do next, especially helps with dirty drivers.
2. (half the time) Being ambitious, like braking later than anyone else would think possible or forcefully chucking my car as to make it go round a corner faster

Weaknesses
1. Being too far in front, I'll start slowing because no one is pressuring me or I'll start looking at random things on the side of the track and then before you know it I'm second or my bumper is replaced with barrier
2 (the other half of the time) Being ambitious, yes it may pay of some times but other times it ends up me having ballsed up suspension, or in fact someone else having ballsed up suspension

Strengths:

Clean driver, good on sports and comfort tyres and consistent in the rain.
I don't block the track when i spin off, i wait til it's safe before entering the track again.
Don't need any driving aids.

Weaknesses:

I brake too early and i hack at the wheel a bit.
I put my foot down too hard on brakes and accelerator.
Not very fast in racing cars or on racing softs, due to never using them.
I can't tune cars.
Can't drive Rear engined cars.
I hit kerbs where i should miss them.
I miss kerbs where i should hit them.
I still don't know the Indy road track, Fuji or any of the reverse tracks.
Not agressive enough, driving clean is more important than winning at all costs.
My concentration is too easily broken by mics or real-life people interrupting me.
I can't count to two.

Strengths:

Clean driver.
Consistent times for long races.
I run for fun.

Weaknesses:

I don't run to win, I choose to loose instead to be involved in an incident.
Slow on traffic.

I am only listing my weakness because it effects everything I do in GT5.

Consistency.

There are times when I can run with the best on the TT Leaderboards, problem is, I fall flat eventually. This makes me not push the limit quite often because I do not like to be frustrated with video games anymore.

My strengths:
Early braking. It sets up for clean corner entry and helps maintain a clean, controlled racing line through the corners. Also, it seems to through following racers off their braking points and timing. And, slow in means, generally, I'm very fast coming out of corners.
I'm very good at holding controlled clean lines in heavy corner traffic or intense head to head racing.

Weaknesses:
Sometimes I misjudge the apex and throttle on too early causing me to push out wide forcing me to lift coming out to avoid spinning from the apron or grass. I'm getting better, but this still throws me off sometimes.
My other is corner entry turn in, the best angle or point to turn into the corner. Laguna seca is the best example at the right turns 2 and 3 which angle of entry can make all the difference in lap time.

Strengths:
Overall, I can drive any car without spinning it out, or understeering out of control. On certain tracks, with certain cars, I'm decently quick, and usually end up within the top 500 on seasonal event leaderboards :)

With an H-pattern, I can shift up rather quickly, almost as fast as the paddles. I can do many heel-toe downshifts within a braking zone. Double-declutches can also be accomplished, though they are a bit slower.

Weaknesses:
I often end up accidentally rear-ending other drivers, which is something I do not want to happen :guilty:

I also have to improve my racing lines, they are what usually cause me to lose the last few milliseconds :banghead:

Strengths:
I) Agressive Driving: I love breaking late and it really works wonders 99% of the time, diving up the inside. Love driving right on the edge where you can feel your car just starting to slide when you come out the corner. And I love being clean while being agressive too.
II) Consistancy: When I get into a groove (i.e. not driving to continuously get faster, my laptimes are always within 0.3-0.6s)

Weaknesses:
I) Drifting: Can't do it with a wheel... just can't seem to catch the car.
II) Tuning: I am no good at doing brilliant tunes on cars. I am not bad though, but to perfect a tune takes me hours...

Strenghts: I think my biggest ability when playing online is not to be a dick. I love clean racing and will do my best to keep it honest.

Another strenght might be the ability to keep a level head throughout the race. I notice when I'm getting annoyed and know when I'm trying to push too hard.

Weakness: I'm just not consistent enough. I'm working on it.

Throttle control. Honestly, this is the DS3's fault. For some reason I've started pumping the throttle while cornering (I use R2 for accelerating), trying to find the optimal amount of speed, but I feel it'd be much better if I could hold a steady speed throughout the corner...

Strengths:
I know when to turn off the PS3.:sly:

Weaknesses:
Not having enough conviction in my own strengths.........awwww, just one more race then I'll pack it in for the night..........I'll just bring myself back up to 20Million cr........I'll just buy one more Cobra.......I'll just check the UCD one more time, just in case.....:nervous:

Strengths:
- Fast driver
- Keeping control
- Can brake at the last minute & survive :)

Weaknesses:
- Tuning, **** knows what im doing
- Overtake cleanly lol (im a nascar driver so I just hit people out the way)

Strengths:
-Clean and fair
- Fast at both wheel to wheel racing and hot lapping
- Fairly Consistent

Weaknesses:

-Late braking
- Manual Shifting with a stick, I still need more practice to be consistent.

Strengths:
Relatively good car control.
Able to race cleanly and not try to overtake in stupid places.
Decent enough driver when chasing.
Understanding of plenty of driving and racing theory, but...

Weaknesses:
Very bad under pressure, braking zones being the first thing to go as soon as there's someone behind me.
Prone to stabbing the throttle when exiting corners too early.
Inconsistent on any circuit that isn't Tsukuba.
Absolutely useless at tuning.

I spend most of my time on GT5 doing hot laps on my own or in online drift lobbies, luckily I'm not overly competitive so I do enjoy races even if I don't win. I tend to do quite well in one make races, but I think I've won maybe two races... Which is a shame as my win message is hilarious.

Strengths
1. Clean and fair
2. Overtaking
3. I'm good in a battle

Weaknesses
1. Overdriving the car when I fall behind
2. Misjudging braking points in unfamiliar cars
3. Trying to drive too cleanly and causing an accident anyway (e.g braking to avoid a car in front, causing the car behind me to crash into me)

Strengths:

Clean and fair
Consistent
Fast
Car control
Overtaking
Pressuring people into making mistakes

Weakness:

Tuning is a shot in the dark sometimes. No telemetry and most the time seems like changes don't translate like they should.

Btw I'm a wheel user, and a great tuner in sims like GTR2, rFactor, etc.

I am terrible compared to just most people that post here. Yet much better than casual players.

Strengths
1. I can handle cars up to PP's in the 600's.
2. I can use the driving line well as a guide.

Weaknesses
1. I still usually use the driving line.
2. Almost no idea how to tune.

strengths: tuning, basically self taught
smooth, quick driving in even the most powerful machines(yes, the red bull too)
fair, consistant and clean
weaknesses:usually mess up at the last minute as pressure gets to me
laggy internet connection(cache cleared every day, if not hour)
can lose focus in longer races and forget about braking points completely

this makes for an overall competitive driver, and very fast on time trials. if ive not warmed up, i could make a lot of mistakes easily.

Strengths:
Braking: I tend to be very late on the brakes, which gets me a lot of my overtakes, but I usually still get slowed down sufficiently to take the proper line through the corner. However, on the exit...

Weaknesses:
Throttle control: I tend to get on full-throttle too early and oversteer like crazy out of corners. This is probably due to my poor modulation abilities on my Sixxaxis controller, I have to really concentrate to not just use them as on/off switches...:ouch:

Good thread! 👍

Strengths:
  • Smooth driving style (at last!), and adaptable to changing conditions.
  • Generally clean, fair and considerate online.
  • I can read other drivers well.
  • Cautious starts.
Weaknesses:
  • Stubbornly determined, can lead to over-driving.
  • Mediocre level of pace and consistency, at best.
  • Easily distrac... ooh, shiny!
  • Probably too aggressive.
  • Cautious starts.
