I have a 91 Civic SiR that has been modified to around 240hp, but i'm pretty sure it's going to be terrible on dirt/snow because it's a fwd. Can anyone recommend some good cars to use? i'm currently checking the used dealearship for early evos but i want to see what you guys have to say.

I bought the focus st and chucked dirt tyres on it. It handles well and didn't have to do any mods to win this one :)

Wha?! Some of the better rally cars in recent years have been FF, in addition to the usual 4WD. Stick with the Civic.

👍

You need an FF car for the beginner snow rally. I used the Prelude SiR; it was awesome. I decided to try an S2000 for the other two. That car with dirt tiles and gravel was absurdly fun.

Edit - neither car was modded beyond the tires, just did the oil change and wash.

It says that you do, but you can actually enter with whatever you want so long as it has less than 245 HP. I entered it in the Peugeot 205 T16.

Not sure for beginner (haven't done it)... But you win a Lancia Delta S4 somewhere along the way in A-Spec which OBLITERATES EVERYTHING in the Intermediate stages, I won by over a minute; and I'm not even good at Rally.

EDIT: Ok Toronado, under 245... So yeah, the Lancia is 400-something, so it wont work for this one. Either way, don't go blowing all your money on a "rally" car, because you get this beast.

I used a Lancia Delta

I thought that was a front-drive car? Guess I can check next time I play.

Are you serious? When i try to turn all my Civic does is understeer and lose an insane amount of speed.

I got a Toyota Celica 4WD job! Stuck an exhaust on and oil change and it was exactly 246bhp!! hehe MINT!!!

I used the FT-86 Concept for all difficulties of the GT Rally, just tune it little by little to meet the BHP requirement of each difficulty.

I used the Lancia Delta HF Integrale for the dirt and snow rallies. I just bought the right tires and a Low RPM Turbo for it. Might as well go with rally heritage. I easily won the snow rally and would've won the dirt rally if I didn't mess up on the second stage.

For the tarmac rally I used the Toyota FT-86 concept. No mods, still won.

I used a Mazda Mx-5 just for kicks, it was actually really easy. I've modded the crap out of it tho, so it's as light as it can go and power was right up there.

Renault Sport Megane :D

That understeer lets it recover easier as you flick it through the corners. FFs are very stable until you graduate to 4WDs or even hairy MR Lancias.

I used an Audi a3/s3 hatchback - AWD and said it had 246 hp,but still let me enter.

BTW - do I need to manually switch tires after running the snow rally and going to the tarmac rally, or does the game understand that I own both sets and automatically put the right tires on?

I've tried a few different cars, but I've been getting my butt handed to me each time in the beginner rally events (haven't tried the snow rally yet, only dirt and tarmac).
It's the only special events or races yet in the game where I haven't been able to at least get bronze on first attempt. It's downright embarrassing that I can't at least manage the tarmac stages :).

I'll go car shopping now for a few of the suggestions made in this thread.

i used a Hyandai Tiburon GT. consistantly beat the AI by about 1 sec each stage.

i did have a few mods on it though, lvl 1 weight reduction and unichip, sports exhaust and racing transmission.

As long as you have both, it changes them automatically.

Used my Audi TT I bought for my wife to play with. 246 HP stock makes it perfect.

I had the Audi TT, then numbskull me gives it an oil change and it doesn't meet the level to qualify.

For intermediate, I finished the Loeb rally with all golds and got the C4 WRC. I used that and I won another rally car, which turned out to be... another C4 WRC.

I went with a VW Bora V6 4motion. That was the first 4wd with less than 245 BHP I saw and I've always fancied a Golf V6 4motion in real life, but GT5 doesn't have one (though it does have an R32).

With a few engine tweaks it gets up to the BHP limit. I did a few other mods, but I shouldn't have; it was much too fast. Totally annihilated the opposition on the snow level. I think I might keep it for intermediate now I've spent some cash on it.

Fully kitted out Mini Cooper S.

I finally completed (with gold) the three beginner events. Buying a Ford Focus ST '06, tuning it to 246 bhp and adding the stage one weight reduction (and soft sports tyres for the tarmac event) saved the day.

Wow, 246hp is accepted? it says 245 on the requirements; the reason i'm angry is because i saw 10 cars that were 4wd and 246hp in the used dealership..

Yeah - I thought it said 246 on the requirements - bought the car, then went back to play and saw it said 245. Tried to play anyway and it let me!
