What cartoons did you grow up on?

I absolutely hated Tom & Jerry (still do in fact) because the mouse would always get the cat in trouble for no reason. The cat would be told to be quiet, so the mouse would run around with cymbals breaking all the china and vases. Then the mouse would disappear and the black housekeeper would come in and whop the daylights out of the cat with a broom. I don't care about the violence at all, but I think it's a crappy message to send: punishment is arbitrary, and you're going to get smacked for it even though you were trying to catch the vase, not break it. The sneak/bully mouse, on the other hand, goes totally unpunished because he lies and says the cat did it.

Great moral to that story. Really constructive.

Hmm. But it's just a cartoon. I can't think of a single person who grew up on Tom and Jerry who is mal-adjusted or has a twisted concept of justice because of it. It's just comedy based on the premise that cats and mice are archetypal ememies. Who looks for morals in cartoons? Neon, you just sounded so liberal.

I've got no problem with, say, Wile E. Coyote vs. the Road Runner. The coyote makes a play for the roadrunner, it backfires (or gets backfired), and the coyote gets creamed. He brought it on himself. I just get incredibly annoyed by Jerry perennially getting Tom in trouble, when half the time all the cat wants is a nap. Even as kid I found that annoying.

I basically grew up with the cartoons on FOX every Saturday morning. Here are some of my favorites:

Ronin Warriors
Jonny Quest
The whole gang of Warner Bros. animals
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Reboot
Transformers
Transformers: Beast Wars (3d version with animals)
Inspector Gadget
David the Gnome (including some other cartoons I can't remember that they showed on Nick Jr.)
Dragon Ball Z (when it was on WB)

Even though I wasn't really into the "older" cartoons as much, I can't agree more with Duke about the Tom and Jerry cartoon. I wanted to crush that mouse just for being such a jerk!

Anybody watched Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers? Or what about that show with Scrooge and his three nephews? (The name has slipped my mind). Oh, and, Aladdin, Looney Toons, the Lion King...

I watched those too. You should buy Kingdom Hearts even though I did give it a somewhat bad review. It has all your favorite disney characters!

THUNDERCATS!!! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH!!!!!!!!!

Right on man, I don't remember Thundercats though....:O

Boom,

How could I have forgotten the Smurfs? :D

Oh and D&D was a cool cartoon that didn't last very long, but I did get into it while it showed. They only had like 10 episodes then pulled it out of the Saturday Morning lineup.

Smurfs, He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Looney Tunes, The Simpsons, Thundercats, Rocko's Modern Life (great show) and Transformers

Actually, that's exactly the one I mean.
I also enjoyed "H.R. Puffenstuf" and "The Banana Splits"

:D I love "The Banana Splits"! Me and my friend Veronique would annoy some of our class mates in school by singing the theme song. :p

H.R. Puffenstuff? Is that the rich dog from the Bugs Bunny?

Johnny Quest
Clutch Cargo - anybody remember? It was mostly animated, but they filmed the voice actors' mouths as they read the lines, then animated the faces around them - wierd)

Speed Racer
Star Blazers (a little later)

Comedy cartoons
Rocky & Bullwinkle
American Heroes (Diaperman, Tornadoman, Strong Man, and Rope Man)
Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, Daffy and the rest of the Warner Bros gang
Pink Panther/Aardvark

[edit] Yeah, I have to put a vote in for Tex Avery as well. He was an amazing guy and I love all the fairy tale spoofs, and the ones about what happens in the store at night when all the people are gone; stuff like that.

1. Popey
2. George of the Jungle
3. Super Chicken
4. Rocky and Bullwinkle
5. Whacky Speed Racers

    Beast Wars
    Beast Machine

    Pokemon
    Reboot
    that show with bugs bunny

TMNT, aw man those used to be my favorites.
i recently heard from my younger cousin that they came out with a new series...
haha, i guess it's his time to watch TMNT. :p

The Simpsons
Duckman
Ren & Stimpy
Reboot
roadrunner/bugs bunny/tweety/etc.

I was into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was really young, but I don't remember that far back.

The first five I have watched for a long while, I started watching the Simpsons, Duckman, Ren & Stimpy, and Reboot all when they first came out, and have always watched them, and still watch them. The Warner Brothers cartoons were obviously repeats, I never watched them as much. I didn't really start watching a lot of other cartoons until 1997 when I we got Teletoon (canadian cartoon channel), and then fox had all their cartoons come out like family guy, futurama, and whatever.

I found the lyrics w00t!
Would somebody please cue that bird?

Samurai Pizza Cats...
Oooh yeah!
Who do you call when you want some pepperoni?
Samurai Pizza Cats...
[Speedy Cerviche: Right on!]
They're stepping out crime, and you know that ain't balony

There's Speedy Cerviche,
he's the leader of the bunch
[That's right!]
A heck of a fighter
makes a heck of a lunch.

And little Polly Esther
who's never afraid
[Polly Esther: That's me!]
of going into battle
when the bad guys invade.

Here's Guido Anchovis
a wild romantic rover.
This cat gets down down
with a love hangover

Here come the Pizza Cats.
They're so bad.
They've got more fur than any turtle ever had!

They're stronger than old cheese...
[Stronger than old cheese.]
Stronger than dirt...
[Stronger than dirt.]
Step on their tails...
[Get off my tail!]
And you're gonna get hurt...
[Don't hurt me!]
Samurai Pizza Cats...
They're fighting crime
All over town!

Four... Three... Two... One...
The Pizza Cats are on the run!

The Big Cheese is the villain,
who's lower than low.
It's a rotten shame
he lives in Little Tokyo.
We've got a nasty Bad Bird
and some nasty Ninja Crowes.
As soon as someone finds the script
we might begin the show.
Sit back and rest your feet
and turn the sound up high.
And if you want the full effects
go eat a pizza pie!
Hahaha!

the pizza cats owned!!! they were incredibly cool, even more so here in mexico, where the dubbing they gave to the series was ABSOLUTELY hilarious. the narrator (dunno everywhere else, but in mexico, the series had a narrator) always complained that he didnt get paid, the big cheese was gay, and stuff like that. oh, it was incredibly funny.
