What is your GT5 peripheral of choice?

A DS3, not by choice; my old DFP gave up the ghost last year, and the fund to replace it with a Fanatec to cover both the PS3 and 360 requirements lost a battle with the back-to-school fund. Moving in with the girlfriend, where space is at a premium, means the goal of having a proper setup is also taking a back seat.

So, wheel for the first chunk of owning GT5; now, just the controller.

Those playing with controller are really missing out. If you have the money and budget, and are into racing sims, invest in a wheel.

I've used a wheel ever since GT-1. It should be noted the wheels available at that time were basic, but they did work well for the time. If anything it made the early GT games more immersive. Once GT3 came out Logitech really upped the quality of their wheels and quite a few of them worked in GT3-4. It also helped that Polyphony worked closely with Logitech to make the wheels work well.
With GT4 and 5 I used the Logitech G25 for years and it was the best $300 spent for a long time. I recently went off the deep end and picked up the Fanatec CSW with BMW rim and clubsport pedals. This takes things to a whole new level. Is it worth the $1000??? Probably not for the casual gamer. A DFGT or G27 for the price point is awesome and a great buy. The one thing the Fanatec stuff will get you is load cell braking. If you're looking for more immersion then load cell braking is just awesome :-)

You get no driving simulation experience with the DS3. DFGT for me, thanks. The only thing I use my DS3 for is tuning settings, etc.

While lazy, I drive with a DS3, when I feel like being cold, I move the ps3 to the attic and use the driving rig with DFGT 👍

Upgraded from a DS3 to a T500 last Xmas :D

Those moving to a wheel will not regret it even if you struggle at first. Once you get the hang of it it's pretty sweet :)

A $1000 for a gaming tool? Holy cow. I guess the economy is on its way back for some of the country...haha.

A Logitech Driving Force GT.
I'm really happy with it, fits my needs just perfectly
Very good 'bank for buck' if you ask me

I have a DFGT but mostly use a ds3 as I don't have the time or patience to get up to the same standard with the wheel.

I use the DS3 but am ashamed to admit I bought a used DFGT about a year ago and haven't tried it yet, I need a clearout and to rig it up properly. That said, I am playing Forza 4 a lot more at the moment as kinda played GT5 half to death.

As an aside, how do people use the DS3? I've always used the tap tap method, flicking the stick to make minor adjustments but this doesn't always look too great in replays! I've tried keeping my thumb on the stick constantly and literally steering with it but I find this harder. Much as I love the DS3 there is still a noticable dead zone, then the travel of the stick is just too short to get anywhere near replicating the lock of a real car.

$1000 sounds like a lot of money and it is but in perspective.

I paid that much for just the seat in my real race car.

Not that Gt5 is the same as real racing but if you have a bunch of friends who are really fast and clean the racing can be very exhilarating and exciting.

The inevitable crashes in the game don't cost hundreds of dollars like on a real race car either.

I love my Fanatec CSR-e and drive 4 or 5 nights a week.

A very good entertainment expense in my opinion.

Got the DFGT for about a year now... Simply brilliant, gives a whole new level of immersion when playing.

Would recommend investing on a decent stand/setup/rig to go with a new wheel, it helps a lot.

Mine should be here on Friday; but the stand won't be here for a few days after. Guess I'll have to figure something out to test it in the days of limbo between.

I know some take pills to stay stable.....right Mr R?
I personally use a DS3 (most) and a DFGT (when it's not cold in the attic)

I use DS3 to drift because I can't get the hang with the wheel.

My DFGT is only used with under 550pp cars , I can't tame the wheelspin.

My question is this: What percentage of you guys use a wheel? Everything I've heard says a wheel will automatically reduce lap times if used correctly, so I'm geeked to finally have one. I can't wait.

Not true, Youll be faster with the wheel once you get the hang of it.

The only aspect of the game where the wheel is at a disadvantage is drifting.

Pretty pointless for you to post your answer twice in the same thread for the sole purpose of using your second post as an excuse to take another one of your cheap digs at me. Grow up my friend and forget about the past, I have.

I used my G25 on an ironing board until my Wheelstandpro arrived. It worked out ok as long as I didn't get too excited

DFGT with a Wheelstandpro. I modded my brake pedal for some resistance.

I personally can't imagine trying to play any racing games with a controller. Hats off to you controller guys, no way I could do it.

Oh, put it in Simulation mode for best results. Lately I've been using Power Steering On for casual use but Power Steering Off will give the best feedback. I keep my FFB anywhere between 4 and 8 depending on the car. Less for old muscle cars.

I started with a DFGT and have since graduated to a G27. My brother, SWERV_GRIFFIN made my fabulous driving station. I have no desire to learn to use a controller as it has no relationship to real life. On the other hand, racing with a wheel improves my everyday driving.

When I said "if used correctly" I meant when I "get the hang of it". So we are both right. If there was confusion, my bad.

DS3.

Don't really have the space for a proper wheel and seat set up.:grumpy:

Nor the cash.:ouch:

Nor the time to enjoy it.:guilty:
