To everyone reading this thread,

Increasingly with time, I am beginning to find myself more involved and obsessive about playing GT5 on a daily basis. I am currently a fourth-year college student, work 10-15 hours per week, and live with my girlfriend. Despite studying to maintain my GPA, working in order to pay bills, and finding time to still have fun with my girlfriend, I still find myself playing GT5 for (on average) 10+ per week!! Regardless if playing GT5 means going to bed two hours later than normal and having to wake up feeling unrested, I will make that sacrifice and run lap after lap on the 24-hour Nurburgring, work on tuning my favorite cars for my favorite tracks, or meticulously try to nail down particular corners and chicanes on a course that always seem to trip me up!! In my head, at times, I really want to believe that I am "the ultimate GT5 player," but I know there are people that share similar experiences, and even some that take it even a step further than I do when it comes to practice. I know I am not the only obsessive person who plays Gran Turismo 5 like it is their part-time job.

So I am just curious...

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?
5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?

I think it would be very interesting to hear back from people and share our stories about something that is supposed to be "just a video game." Comments are greatly appreciated!!

Good Thread. For a little background comparison, I am an office manager, working 50 hours a week.

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
5

2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
Workout, working on my real car, playing Skyrim, eating dinner, cleaning the house, doing laundry

3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?

Taking a stock high power car around the Ring, racing in the 450pp league.

4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?

No GF at the moment, but all of my ex's liked the game. Usually their car or something similar to it is in the game so they can have fun driving it from time to time (a g27 helps with that experience). Or they liked to watch me play, but that gets old for girls in about 5 mins. Most wouldn't last a full lap around the Ring before they left the room

5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?

The GT series in general has been a part of life since for the last 15 years, so it's definitely more than a game to me. It's a great stress reliever as well. Tossing a stock 2002 Viper around the Ring can put a smile on my face within minutes.

1. 8...ish. :)
2. Sleep and Chores.
3. Online, Nordschleife.
4. I don't know. Sometimes she watches me fighting online tho.
5. Slightly more than a game.

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
I'm finding it increasingly more difficult to find the hours in a day to play GT5 mainly due to the wife, on average I'm racing 10-15 hours a week.

2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5? All my free time

3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
I love racing. This is as close to racing that I'm going to get to without investing thousands of dollars with little to no return. Not everyone can be a professional race car driver.

4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?
She HATES it. She thinks that it is a total waste of time and thinks I'm acting like a child playing a video game.

5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?
Gran Turismo is more of a 'Sim-cade' racing game. It's a lot more than just a arcade game yet not quite an actual simulator.

1.(On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?

Around 15-20 per week. I have other games and consoles, and other things to do. But although video games are part of my life, they don't take more than two hours daily.

2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?

Nothing really. Everything has its place and time. There are many other things to do. Just having the game with me is more than enough.

3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?

My love for cars and the game itself. Not to compete.

4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?

People respect me here, but I try not to play if there are other people around, even though I have my own entertaiment system.

5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?

It is just a game, and most people don't seem to realize it. But at the same time is something very important in my life, again, because of me being a car enthusiast and GT being the only way I can enjoy cars. Plus, read my user title... Almost 14 years of playing GT series.

+1 on the thread. I'm 21 and working 40+ hours a week.

1. 20-25

2. Sleep definitely. I don't mind staying up a little later to run a couple more laps or collect a few more cars. On my days off work I'm playing constantly though not always aspec. I like running my bobs around when I need to get stuff done around the house laundry etc..

3. I love racing and I love to watch racing. Usually have SPEED channel on in the background... just can't get enough! I own every GT game and its been my favorite series since I was little kid.

4. My girlfriend hates it, she constantly jokes shes going to throw the disc out the window haha. She thinks its a giant waste of time but she cant complain when she comes home and the laundry is done and the house is clean.. Thank you bspec!

5. GT has been in my life a while and I have many memories playing with friends and family so its more than just a game. After a long day at work some people like to flop down on a couch and watch some tube or what not but for me like ZohsixGT5 there's no better way to drive away life's frustrations!

Try to pick up other hobbies or just spend time with your girl. For me, if I get bored or too into GT5, I stop playing it for a couple of days and then jump back into it. You'd be surprised how fresh the experience feels again.

But dude as a fellow student, try to get your sleep so you can excel at your studies. You can't exactly put GT5 on a job resume. That said, keep on truckin 👍.

Too tired to answer all the questions.

I have a wife, a 2 year old and 5 month old daughters and am a stay at home dad. I only get to play once I've cooked the dinner, fed us all, bathed the children and put the eldest to bed, tidied the kitchen, watched some TV with the wife and youngest and then they go to bed, usually about 11pm. I still play about 8 hours a week, have all the cars I need and have platinumed the game. I think I'm fairly committed to GT!

If I didn't have kids, I would have bought a wheel by now, but as is I'm stuck with my trusty old DS3. Love the game to bits though!

That's actually a great idea. Next time I update my resume, I'm putting my GT5 Ring time on there under the skills section. Although technically it's software, hmmm.

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
10 - 15

2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
Revision

3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
Fun and also regular practise is needed to remain competitive

5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?

Well I have virtually stopped playing all other games now. I'd be pretty bored without GT5 that's for sure.

1. 15-30 hours a week on GT5 ,depending on how many hours a week I work.

2. Not much really, I work, I sleep, I eat... What else is there to do? :sly:

3. Love cars, always loved the GT series and I really enjoy playing GT5, despite lack of events.

4. She don't have a vote on this matter! :p

5. It's definitely something more then just a game. ;)

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
Approx. 12-16 on average. Been a race director for the last 10 months and hosted 50+ league races, usually 3 a week.

2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
Sleep, dinner/small social outings, laundry, vacuuming, and my dog often has to "hold it" longer than she would prefer

3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
Sharing my enjoyment and love of cars/racing with people from all around the world and recreating the thrill of racing in my living room.

4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?
I have a triple monitor setup with 3 PS3's, a G27, and a custom built rig/chair in my living room.....what do you think. Lol

5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?
See answer #3. I really don't consider it a game because I'm rarely ever playing it in order to advance levels or earn rewards or accomplish tasks. I see it more as a tool that allows people to come together and create their own driving/racing experience with others who equally enjoy it. Without the Internet and GTP, GT5 would be mostly just a game.

Coming from a 15 year old secondary school student:

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
Seven hours.

2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
Anything that isn't school related or family related.

3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
Senseless ambitions of being a race car driver one day.

4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?
Am single.

5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?
Without sounding like a die-hard fanboy, I think there is something in the GT series that is absent in any other driving game that I've ever played.

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
I'd say roughly 7-8 if I'm lucky.

2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
Nothing, GT5 comes second to everything else

3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
Good car and track selection, regular updates, lots of great racing with the right people, physics, my G27

4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?
A lot of my family and friends play with me actually:p

5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?
It's just a game, but a damn great one at that I've grown to love. So to answer that question, it's become more than just a game to me, it allows me to embrace car culture and drive arguably some of the greatest cars ever made, not to mention it feels fantastic with a wheel and if you can find a group of serious racers or car enthusiasts(like the people here) or just play with family and friends. That's what it's become for me. I've played Rfactor, NFS, Iracing, etc, but for some reason GT5 keeps calling me back.

Great questions!
1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
Maybe 15
2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
Sex, exercise and work. I force myself to get some work done before I play GT but often can't start my day without a few wake-up laps.
3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
It's stress relief (even when it's stressful), is an escape from reality, and fills in gaps when I'm not feeling motivated or creative.
4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?
My wife is pretty tired of it. She says I have to make a decision. She is going to be disappointed. You can always get a new wife/ girlfriend. GT is irreplaceable.
5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?
LOL yea it's just a game but I've been at it since GT1 so it is sentimental for me.

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
7 -10
2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
Not much i have a wide open day.
3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
Its a great game i grew up with this , Spyro, and Twisted metal.
4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?
Its a great game , it has more content than i could ever go Thru making it seem fresh even a year latter!
5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you? To me GT5 is a life style, a automotive history book that captures the thing i love most CARS! come in my room and the first thing you will say is " holy cow cars, and this guy is to old for toys" i have hot wheels and model cars in my room to the point were it looks like a car Shrine , heck 6 out of ten of my drawers have hot wheels boxes nicely organized , and my granturismo garage represents my real life collection because i often match them =D

1. Highly variable, around 2-6 hours
2. Watching TV, other games
3. I play it for fun and immersion.
4. No partner at the moment
5. It's a game that I enjoy to play, but I don't obsess over it.

1. (On average) How many hours a week do you play Gran Turismo 5?
Maybe 1 hour if I'm lucky.

2. What other things in your life do you willingly sacrifice in order to play Gran Turismo 5?
Sleep, but that's about it.

3. What do you think your main reason(s) are for playing Gran Turismo 5 regularly?
Video games are how I like to unwind. I'm introverted and need alone time to recharge. Gaming does that for me. As for GT5 in particular, it just happens to be the game I like most now.

4. If you have a significant other, spouse, or children; What do they think about you playing Gran Turismo 5 and what kinds of opinions do they have about Gran Turismo 5 as a video game?
I'm married but have no children. Like another poster, my wife doesn't like video games and with a few exceptions doesn't engage with me when I play.

5. Do you think honestly think that Gran Turismo 5 is just a driving video game or do you think it has become something more to you?
It's just a game. There are way more important things to be doing.

Just wanted to add that i'm jealous about you young guys who "only" have 10-15 hours a week to play. Enjoy it now while you still can.

1. Ten hours. It was closer to forty hours per week the last time i had no job.
2. Most stuff.
3. Speed cameras and unleaded at E1.60 per litre.
4. Girls, in my experience, do not play computer games.
5. it is actually just a driving game. Better games will come.

1. 15 hours
2. not really i actually sacrifice sleep
3. I have been waiting to play it for a long time and grew tired of not being able to tun cars all the way in GTPSP
4. My girlfriend tolerates it, sometimes its the only thing i could talk about.
5. It definitely means more to me than just being a driving game, it is the first thing that got me interested in cars. Before then i thought the only cars that were in existence were cars i saw in my everyday life, then i discovered a whole lot of cars with GT(plus TopGear as well GO STIG GO!!!). It got me further interested in cars and they have been my dream to drive at least 90 percent of them. From GT1 to GT5, although most cars have been in the series since GT1, they have been improved on. I just want to start driving in real life, but my job really sucks and minimum wage in the US isn't really helping that.
