Crap? The 500 is a Great car!
My grandfather had once a Fiat 500 that I vaguely remember riding in, I was only 4 or 5 at the time. I do remember his next car, also a Fiat, the 850 Special, a great little sports car for the lower middle class I guess at least in southern Europe in the early 1970s. You still saw them around here, every now and again till about 6-8 years ago. I do remember the one my grandfather owned had a cool wooden wheel and I kind of wished I would drive it one day, which off course never happened since I was far too young and he was getting quite old having been born in 1900!
Anyway, some 14 odd years latter my first car - not mine really more like my fathers city car become car for learners (my sisters would use it too) - was a Uno 45, the first 883cc 45hp Uno, with which I have to say I had some great times. Yes it had some electrical problems, sometimes it didnt start I didnt like the way it looked much - even though it was revolutionary and was followed by most European cars. But the little engine was always very alive and it was actually great fun to drive.
Of course 500s are a different story today; theyre collectors items almost. A friend of mine tried to buy one a few years ago but was asked way too much money. Besides looking great, the Fiat 500 was also, I believe, the first car for thousands of Italian and other European men who until then had had to rely mostly on their Lambrettas to move around (sometimes with wife and children along).
