What games are you playing now?

GTA V - my first story replay in many years (I think it was on the Xbox 360 last time!). On the PS5 now, the environments look very nice and 60fps is a welcome bonus.

I have about 4 blockbuster games sealed still because I bought them all when I got my PS5 but never got around to starting them. GTA V and RDR 2 among them.

Been playing a PSVR2 game called V-Racer Hoverbike, an anti-gravity combat racing game. It's a bit of a Wipeout clone in many ways but it's a lot of fun. Got me thinking about how neat it would be to see a modern JetMoto game...

Just installed SteamOS on my ROG Ally, currently reinstalling TXR 2025 and Hole, not sure where I take it from there, but goodbye Windows!

So, I made space in the backlog and played and finished Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS5, part of the Uncharted remastered collection) and I have thoughts. I must disclose that I got this for my PS3 and never finished it then, so I also never played the other games in the franchise.

In summary, weak story and shallow characters/villains (at that point in the series) with a third act that is so random: Nazis and zombies due to a cursed gold statue? So, they ripped off Indiana Jones AND Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl? , and the last showdown with the "boss" was cheap and infuriating.

Also, this game is 80% cover shooter combat against annoying waves of pirates/zombies just to cover the lack of any other meaningful gameplay, the puzzles are very basic, and exploration is rather linear. And the platforming is dependent on animations: That jump you missed is probably due to the animations not synchronizing; a bit frustrating but in the end is manageable.

But the jet ski sections... :banghead: :yuck::ouch:

On the good side, the music and the voice acting is rather good with the material they have, and technically performs very well at 60 fps, although there is a bug that cuts off sound if you start from a checkpoint many times. And the PS3 "remastered" visuals and 1440p resolution (I'm on a monitor right now) don't mix that well.

I know this is the start of a beloved series, but it's rough and has not aged well: 5/10 and I will not replay it. At least is relatively short (8 hrs. or so.)

And then I started Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and I could clearly see from the start the shift to that cinematic style that would mark PlayStation's big exclusives hereafter. Also, no endless combat, at least through the start of act 2.

Yes, I watched that Uncharted movie and the casting was terrible, I would not watch that again.

@Nacho Libre I personally can't stand the Uncharted franchise. The first game, when it came out, was good but I think that was solely because there wasn't much else around at the time and it was a relatively new concept (Tomb Raider but accessible and more cinematic), I got the platinum. I think I did the same for Uncharted 2. By the time Uncharted 3 came about, I just got bored during the opening chapter and never went back.

Then Sony gave away the remastered trilogy during the pandemic so I thought I'd try it again and relived almost the exact same thing except I enjoyed the first two much less but got further in the third. It was a fight in a shipbreaking yard that bored me into stopping. I have also tried and failed to enjoy TLOU twice and it's the same thing, I get to a point where my brain goes "oh look, the exact thing that I knew would happen is happening, and now we're doing this thing (usually a setpiece-y fight that's meant to blow my mind or something) again" and I switch off, then switch it off.

Speaking of boring games with good production, I'm taking a break from being the shadiest mechanic ever (I finally started rebuilding that customer's 370Z I stripped with components I've restored from the junkyard, even though I have over 100k in the bank) to play The Outer Worlds, and something about it is stopping me from gelling with it and I don't know what it is. I feel like I should like it, but I'm ambivalent about it. I'll give it another chance later.

And here I am thinking the Uncharted series is my favorite game series of all time.

I don't disagree with your complaints from the both of you, though. The first three games didn't age particularly well, especially the first game. And the third game is definitely the weakest of the bunch. But despite their flaws they are special to me and I can't help but enjoy them. They're also the only games I've ever completed on the hardest difficulty and got Platinum trophies for.

I feel the same way with the newer Tomb Raider series, which I've replayed frequently. But from that, the first one doesn't feel like a true Tomb Raider game: too much combat, and no tomb raiding that really matters to the story of the game. And just as Uncharted, the course correction started with the first act of the second game.

As well as still being absolutely hooked on Battlefield 6's multiplayer I have started to dip back into Dead Island 2 on the Steam Deck for when I need something less hectic.

I completed the story a while ago but back for all the side missions.
I normally dont like mindless zombie slaying games but this hits the spot for some reason. The only annoying thing is weapons breaking and having to return to a workbench to repair them every so often. I have certain weapons I love to use more than others and it makes it a chore rather than a challenge having to repair them.
