What green color is closest to Steve Mcqueen's Bullit mustang?

One thing you guys are gonna have to decide is if you want to paint it what it looks like in the movie or what it looks like in real life. In real life the paint is darker than what's in the movie. Gotta remember film back in the day was not the greatest stuff on earth. Well some was good and others ugh.
you bring up a good point, i'd think i'd want what it looks like in real life

Well, I took mine out on Toscana, and it catches the light pretty well (excuse the "excursion", although I feel it adds authenticity... :p)
Again, this is "Combination B Excellent Green Mica" from Mazda.

You need to raise the suspension. McQueen's car wasn't lowered. Looks good though. Sure wish it was a premium car.

Can you put Torque Thrusts on that car?

Most of the time it looks like the first pic - the two middle ones are slightly over-exposed now that I look at them :guilty:
The last, smaller one is the best "in the light" representation.
If you can get the actual Ford colour (it was mentioned earlier that it appears on the '67 Mercury Cougar), that would be best.

Anyway, the little car you need for the Mazda colour is "MX-5 VR Limited (NA, J)" and mine is a '95, but that might vary. It's got a funky green cloth hood, too. :D

Also, Audi's "Cactus Green" is close, but the specular part (the bit visible in the sun) is more green and less olive than the Mazda green, but the base colour is almost the same. There may be others out there!

The suspension is stock for the GT350R, which I guess is quite low compared with the actual 'Stang used in the film. I don't want to ruin the stock feel of the car, the paint is for my own amusement. If you're talking about wheels, this is a Standard car - it cannot have its wheels changed, sadly. :(

Some great color suggestions in this thread, and has given me food for thought. I'm gonna have to dig out my dvd and watch the making of documentary to see if there are any more hints or clues about this car. I'm wondering if they may of raised the suspension on the cars to cope with the bumpy streets. And yes it is a bit of a bummer that we can change the rims on the car, like we could on gt4. Just a quick side note, I have been watching some of the Ford adverts on YouTube with Steve Mcqueen cut into them, the advert for the Ford puma stands out for me, worth a watch if you haven't seen them.

so I've Pm'd alexlees about their offer (Mercury Cougar) and i have had no response so far, so i will continue looking for the mazda which i probably wont find because when theres a car i set out to try and find in the UCD it takes me days to find it :grumpy:

"Highland Green Mika" - on the Mazda NC '07 as someone said...

Ford painted the new Mustang Bullitt with a paint called "Highland Green Mica"

Ford and Mazda share much engineering.. among other things.

Interesting thread. Interesting color. :D I just got a GT350 the other day from the UCD.

Guess I have some color hunting to do.

That Highland Green Mika looks like the Dark Green Mica posted before:

According to an article I linked to before:
netcarshow
The new Bullitt wears a close match to the movie car's 1968 Highland Green paint, officially called Dark Highland Green. This distinctive color has only graced one other Mustang, the 2001 Mustang Bullitt. Gaffka assures Bullitt enthusiasts that the color will remain an exclusive Mustang Bullitt color. Non-purists can opt for only one other color - black.

So, given that the original colour isn't even being used on the official Bullitt model Mustang from '08, and the colour that is used on said car is (supposedly) exclusive to the Bullitt Mustang, I'm not so sure that Mazda would have it as well. Although it is still possible. But the colours tend to change names when used on different makes / models.

I'd really like to see what this Dark Green from the Mercury Cougar looks like.

According to these swatches, they are similar (assuming we're talking about Inverness Green on the Cougar).
Mercury '67
Ford '68

EDIT: Apparently, the colours aren't the same, given they're from different years. The '67 is code Y and corresponds to "Dark Moss Green Poly" for Ford. The '68 code is R and the Mercury colour would be "Augusta Green Poly"

Here's a '68 Cougar in Augusta Green.

EDIT: Inverness Green is totally different to Augusta Green (and, hence, Highland Green) - it's much paler and a bit more towards blue than yellow.
Back to square one :grumpy:

But remember I asked for the closest thing, but if the exact color can be found that's awesome

Yes, but the dark green on the '67 Cougar is not close, that was what I was getting at. It looks terrible in GT4, but I suppose there's no guarantee it looks the same in GT5. I don't have the colour in GT5, so I couldn't check directly.

Guys, there's a Highland green color available if you buy the Mazda NC MX5, it's quite a dark green color, and the name is as close as it get too. :D

The base colour is close, but it looks wrong in the light.

Granted, I don't know how it looks in the game. Someone should try it and post pics :p

I just tried that daihatsu green and I don't know if its my TV ('32 sony bravia) or I have bad eyes but it just looks black

Wrong TV settings? Looks pretty green to me.

Edit: Don't look at it in your Garage, that place is really dark.

I didn't, i actually used it. Hmmmm not sure but I am running in 1080p, color settings are normal, must be my eyes :scared:

They are a way of representing a constrained colour space ([wikipedia]RGB[/wikipedia]), as produced by electronic displays. In [wikipedia]Hexadecimal[/wikipedia], FF means 256 which is the highest "level" a particular colour channel can have - each channel gets two digits in Hex (as opposed to three in Decimal).
$FF = 255, 128 + 64 + 32 + 16 + 8 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 255. There are 256 levels, the lowest being $00, which is why pure black = $000000 and pure white (255,255,255) = $FFFFFF. 256 would be $0100 as you move into 16 bit addressing.

Oh, I thought that was "Combination B ... " the other Mazda colour, the one I used. The base colours are near-identical. I'm not sure the specular part is apparent in that shot, but I've decided I'm sticking with the paint I have anyway, unless something appears later... 👍

Yes, you're right; thanks for the correction - I do know how to work in other numerical bases (honestly), I just messed that up :p
Interesting the way you sum the Hex "digits" in their binary / powers of two equivalents :boggled:

"Dark Turquoise Green Metallic" from the Suzuki Cappuccino seems to match the real car (not film) quite well. A 14,600 credits paint chip! :D

EDIT: Hmm, in the daylight it seems to match the film also from certain angles. Sinister dark green in shadow and lovely green under light. Will try to snap some photos later.

EDIT 2: Some Photos of the Trans-Cammer in "Dark Turquoise Green Metallic"

Looks very cool and menacing to me. Painted the rims in Matt Black from the Lexus LFA.

Here's a couple of video's I have found, the first is from the Steve McQueen Car Show, showing a fabulous replica,

And the chase in the highest quality I could find online in 1080p HD

Now I suppose there is two schools of thought here, do you use a paint that looks more like the car does in the flesh, or a paint like how it looks on the movie.

The next car that I'm going to do will be a lot easier, it will be the 70 Challenger R/T from Vanishing Point...lol

Thanks dude.

Loving the colour on it more and more now. :D Sounds mean and goes fast to boot.

Yeah, that's a good match! I remember, now, considering that one, and being surprised that a "Turquoise" would look like that!
Trouble is, my Cappuccino is that colour so I discounted it... It's interesting the effect that body shape has on the appearance of paint. I guess that's why bicycles always look 🤬 in "flip-paint" :p

In the film, a lot of the angles are chosen, it seems, to deliberately take advantage of the "specular" colour of the paint. Then again, it's normal to shoot in the same direction as the light is facing! ;)
