I struggle to get my head round cancer, what takes place in your body in order for it to kill you?

Cancer is just very, very rapid cell generation (I think that's the word for it) to the point where it just shuts down your body. So in theory, it's in everyone, it just takes something to trigger it.

You can't catch it, it's not contagious.

Cancer is caused when a cell starts reproducing at an uncontrollable rate. This creates a tumour. I think it kills you by invading your bloodstream and essentially stealing nutrients to feed itself, though I could be wrong.

The cell starts reproducing due to some sort of genetic mutation, most commonly caused by genetic predisposition, exposure to radiation or carcinogens, or other toxins.

Which is rapid cell generation. The build-up of these cells is the tumour, it kills you by spreading as it gets larger and larger and larger.

How can doctors measure how long you have left to live?

Well, depending on when they detect it they can make an educated guess.

Yep.

I really don't know. You'd have to ask one. Any doctors here on GTPlanet?

Uncontrolled rapid growth of cells. And radiation starts it sometimes I think. But it is also used as treatment.

British people hating on britain. Especially when what they're saying is factually wrong.

We suck at a lot, but who doesn't?

Can't see any Doctors having the time to post here

My writing is so bad, I guess you could call me a doctor.

Well when the UKBA makes it impossible for my fiancee to live with me (we're getting married soon) and leaves me with no choice but to go to live in Japan, I think I have the right to complain.

Read again 'Especially when what they're saying is factually wrong.'

Your issue is factually correct. It is a problem that exists.

Fair enough, but I'm now taking every opportunity I can to badmouth the UK.

The greatest country on this God-given Earth is obviously The United States of America. The only thing wrong with it is our liberal-biased media and the socialist that I have to call "President". [/REALAMERICAN]

Hellz yeah!

Grinding my gears are presidential advertisements and working out. I'm in so much pain!

God I hate hospitals. *shudders* They seem so artificial and they make me want to run away. Even in her tired state my mum could tell I was unsettled.

I hope she's alright. Is there a good chance of her recovering from the cancer?
The doctors seem to think so.

It is indeed. I lost a close friend to cervical cancer just a few weeks ago, so I have firsthand experience of what it can do. She went from appearing to be in good health to death in about 45 days.
Sorry for your loss. :(

That sucks. I hope she's allright, and I hope you and your family are too. I've had many family members die from cancer, I know what you're going through. :(
Thanks. :)

Really sorry to hear that Matty, I hope it works out, I hear about a lot of people who survive and beat breast cancer, so it can be done.

Gear grinder(s)-One is the date. It's the three-year anniversary of the death of one of my elementary-school-friends, from being hit in front of the Middle school. I posted on here about it a while back, maybe those of you who post here often remember it. Anyway, I'm not all depressed about it, I've accepted it, but it's just annoying to think about, that I don't think it was his time.

Number two is a little more first-world, walking home in the rain. I don't mind when a warm front moves in and it isn't that cold, but when it's January cold and it's raining, it stings your face. This sucks.

Sorry to hear that rb26x :(, I think I remember hearing about that on the news a few years ago, seems likely since you live pretty close.

It's not bothering me, it's been long enough, but who knows what high school would've done, for better or for worse?

Academy?

Oh how very droll, young squire. Would Master Tom like a top hat and a Calabash pipe for Master's forthcoming O-Levels?

No. Master Tom, would like to go to a Private School where he could get good grades without the teachers saying "You're only good enough for a C".

It's breast cancer. And we've had a call from the hospital, she's going to stay overnight, so we're just going off to visit.

All the best mate, I lost my Granddad to Pancreatic Cancer in 2007. God I miss him.
