What GT5 has become for you?

It has become an OCD-like obsession to collect all of the cars and test drive them... well, it is the "real driving simulator" :D
Hit the nail right on the head. You're using GT in a way a lot of people don't understand. You're ahead of the game, by far. 👍

I'm playing it casually now, but very soon, it's going to consume me. When I let it.

Indeed! The problem is that sometimes that temporary get-away makes things even worse, brings additional stress and a broader sense of disappointment for the day.

Feeling wasted after killing the remaining hours of your day to something not creative like this makes things worse.

I know what you mean by the first part, but your last words are devastatingly wrong. Well, it completely depends on how you abuse the experience. I mean utilize it. :sly:

Gran Turismo, as well as my other games (Fallout for example), is a way to keep me entertained if I don't have nothing else to do. It also helps to relax after a tiring day at school, and allows me to experience something that would be impossible in real life (at least for now).

Well after a long day working, nothing better than turn my PS3 on, go online and have some nice race/testing with some new friends I just met because GT5, and not think about anything else.

Don't take it to serius though, you can get realy frustrated, just enjoy the ride not the ranking...

A colossal disappointment. Polyphony need a massive kick up the backside for GT6. They're so far behind in some areas it's not even funny.

That being said, I still do my fair share of online NASCAR races every night, which I do admittedly love.

I simply have not been able to get into GT5 at all. I have tried many times but just gave up around February and it only collects dust. The standard cars ruined this game for me. If all the cars had been premium it would have been an much more enjoyable experience. Oh well all I can do is hope some sort of magical patch comes out and turns all the cars into premium. The game overall was just a massive disappointment for me. Quite possibly the largest disappointment in my gaming history.

I bought this game , played for a couple of weeks thinking , "this is the best racing game i've ever seen" the online part was simply incredible , i raced for hours , i woke up and i raced some more etc... (i've been playing since gt3) , then , i started reading threads on this website , and i somehow thought i needed a wheel to truly enjoy the game , then i bought a g27 , and a couple of days later PSN went down , i was like okay , i can cancel my credit cards , no big deal.. then a month later PSN was back online , and the day it was up and running my ps3 stopped reading discs , so again i was upset and i had to spend some more money to be able to play gt.. anyway , now , it's not that fun or awesome anymore , i remember being addicted to gt3 , but gt5 is not that great anymore , but it's still nice and i race almost everyday for an hour or two.. BUT my fav game of all time is still gta 4 also i think racing in gta 4 can be more fun . If you're a clean racer or a gta4 player add me:) PSN ID Dazi

GTA lol ^^^^ I guess I can respe.... nevermind. :grumpy:

Just drive. Plain and simple. If you can't handle that, it really isn't your game. Sorry to say, really am. It's kind of disheartening having to say that.

I beat a spec, except the endurance races, collected hundreds of cars, gave an honest effort at tuning, then I have kept the updates going and I did a couple seasonals. Now that summer is here my G27 will probably hibernate, unless I get the desire to play dirt 3.

In summary GT5 a-spec was fun, the cars were good, I truly liked maybe 5 tracks, the rest of it was terrible, now I will say I honestly won't be playing it anymore.

I agree completely, I feel I have exhausted the current games potential and the rally portion is so far gone, its hopeless. so either dirt 3 as you said, or my wheel is going up on craigslist.

Some of the tracks are disappointing, I agree. I think that's why everybody's so pissy. Including me.

All our classics. They have to come back.

I drive with the inside view and I love photomode. So since only 20% of the game has premium cars, I can truly only enjoy 20% of the game.

Like I said, hopefully they will release a patch or series of patches to convert the standard cars over to premium. Not that I am complaining since I didnt even buy the game, it was a christmas present. Just patiently waiting for a premium patch. Not hatin....just watin. :sly:

A-spec makes up about 20% of the game, you've missed out on the other 80%. I guess if I ignored the majority of the game I wouldn't be playing it anymore either.

I see these statements all the time and they make no sense. Yeah, only about 20% of the cars are premium, but that's 20% of over 1000 cars! Show me another racing game on a console that has 200 cars with cockpit views and HD detail, then maybe your statement would be a little more valid.

Ignored??? I forgot how much people in this forum love to interject words in order to argue! I am lvl 24 b-spec, the most painful gaming experience in my life btw, took photos, started a tuning garage, spent dozens of hours practicing and failed miserably at the academy (top 1000 ish) and posted over 300 comments on gtplanet to banter with the fellow gamers and I look back in horror as I recall that "other 80%" that sucked! I guarantee 95% of all gt5 owners never touched your 80% of pure rubbish. But if u liked it, great, you will love the next dlc release where you are a pithand that pumps gas and changes tires.

Same here man. But you still gotta appreciate the standards for what some of the cars are/represent. There are a lot of, well, classics. I've just started collecting them for later on when I feel like driving them on the Nurb., or dare I say, new tracks?

This is EXACTLY where I am at with the game, I'm endevouring to not only test drive every car but to win in every car and take at least 3 photos (front, side, rear) of them all too. It's a massive undertaking tho especially with the lack of events (I don't do online) and has only recently been improved with the more recent seasonals.

Without consciously trying out every car and playing it as I've played the other 4 games....I'd be done by now. This way of playing also sadly highlights the overall bad quality of many of the cars in the game and the sheer number of duplicates. Overall the game is a huge disappointment.

It's not 200 good cars tho. The Kei cars, the 3 crappy Volkswagons. The NASCAR cars are all as good as identical too. I mean come on why waste time doing a premium Prius?? An I-MIEV??? With such a limited number of quality cars PD should have chosen the ones to do MORE carefully.

Oh and Forza 3 has WAY more than 200 cars with Cockpits and very good HD detail (albeit not as good as GT5, not a million miles away. CLOSER than GT5s standards that's for sure!). And it has more tracks, better Ai and racing and PORSCHES. If Forza had G25 support I would not be playing GT5 at all if I'm honest!

For me gt5 has become "the ultimate car collecting simulator" can't go a day without popping in gt5 in the hopes of a sexy new car in UCD, even if I don't stay on to race

Please don't compare that to GT5. Wait till FM4, a better competitor.
Wait, go ahead. You just don't get why most of us enjoy GT5. Even if you did like the old GT's.

I, seriously, believe there are GT fans that have completely lost their mind, or were never true fans of the series.

I was never a true fan of the series up until I actually started getting better. Simply, because I was much too young for the first 2 GT's. And I couldn't get the hang of GT3. I've dedicated myself to GT since GT4. Ever since that one, I've been with it and never really thought twice about it. Too many people expect GT to be gamey, perhaps. This is coming from someone who almost never used to be able to complete a video game. "Fun" ones. I'm so glad for the PS3.

You, obviously, lost. Whatever that means. But, you did.

Everything you listed there still only makes up about 20-30% of what can be offered by the game. Too many people require some kind of reward (points, credits, prizes) in order to play a game. If you require that, then I can see how you would get bored with GT5.

When the PSN was down for almost a month I lost the 80% of the game that I enjoy the most, but I still played it every day. After 3.5 weeks I was having to get a little creative at finding new things to do, but to me that just added to the fun! Take a RM Cappuccino to the first race of the Japanese Championship @ Tsukuba........what a challenge and a blast!!

Now that we have our PSN back, GT5 and GTP are once again consuming large portions of my day, everyday. I haven't touched A-spec, B-Spec, or Seasonals since the PSN has been back up and I'm putting in at least 2-3 hours everyday......double/triple that on the weekends. There's your 80% bud. 👍

There's no point in arguing about it though. Some people need the game to do everything for them, and they will never enjoy GT5 to its full capacity. Other people use the game as a tool to do what they want, and for them GT5 will take a very long time to get boring.

Is it a perfect game? Nope. Are there features I'd like to see added? For sure! But that doesn't mean I can't really enjoy what we do have! It's like refusing to eat a delicious pizza because it only has 4 of your 5 favorite toppings on it. "It doesn't have EVERYTHING I want so I refuse to touch it".

Other way around....I'm the same, GT has lost it's mojo GT5 is NOTHING like the old games for ALL the wrong reasons. It's gone backwards in FAR too many areas.

oh and saying please don't compare Forza 3 to GT5 just negates anything you will ever say. I love racing SIMS, been playing them since the early F1 games on PC..Geoff Crammonds stuff, then Sport Car GT with my first FFB wheel, then GPL, then GTR2...all the gran turismos too. I couldn't give a flying fudge WHO produces the game as long as it's good. Whereas you are clearly a GT fanboy of the highest order.

And for the record I DO enjoy GT5, it is just nowhere near where it SHOULD be and if it offends people that I complain about the things I don't like then go look up Suicidal Tendencies "you can't bring me down" lyrics, especially the end about offending. without honest input from the fans the GT series WILL stagnate. Instead of blithering about the "whiners" and the "complainers" the fanboys should take a good hard look at the game and be WORRIED. And Forza 4.....if it still won't support the G25 then it still won't replace GT5 for me. That's GT5s secret weapon, the stupidity of the 360 not supporting Logitech.

I feel you. I de-ylod'ed my launch PS3 8 times in the past 4-5 months, to keep playing GT5. Then, just last week, got the 160gb slim for $300 and $160 back in coupons from Target, after trying to get the most out of the best PS3 ever created (60gb).

Patience is the lesson.

And for the record I DO enjoy GT5, it is just nowhere near where it SHOULD be and if it offends people that I complain about the things I don't like

It gets old. If you don't get that you're being conceited by continually complaining about the unalterable, you just don't like GT anymore. Did you expect it to be the exact same style? Ever heard of growth or development?
Change? :dopey: I bet you have. So let's just end it with, you hate GT now.

Well, I suppose that I need a challenge with rewards, yes. Bad Music, load times, and Driving endlessly would become a little too realistic, I get tired of that, beleive you me. Hence the game should draw the player out of reality and into a world not otherwise possible. GT5 did that, but as you will
read time and again around these forums, it left much to be desired and felt very stale and institutionalized. Anyways, enough griping, cheers.

20% is 20%. And 20% out of 1,000 cars is not impressive at all for a game that took 6 years to develop.
Forza 3 has well over 500 cars and EVERY single car has a fully detailed interior and the game only took 2 years to develop. But we really dont need another this game vs that game thread. We have plenty of those. There is no way at all to justify a game taking 6 years and only 20% of the cars are complete. So you are telling me that if Shift 3 or Forza 4 created 1000 cars in their next game and you only have interior views on 200 of those carsand you could only take 200 of those cars to photomode, you will be ok with that? No I didnt think so.

LOL, you are amazing!! I do not hate GT. Plus I do not complain about the unalterable. Yes I have heard of growth and development, GT5 has gone backwards not forwards in TOO many areas and it's these that I complain about.

And I couldn't give a damn that it gets old. It NEEDS to get through that the game has problems that NEED to be fixed, otherwise the competition will GROW and DEVELOP faster and better than GT, believe it or not I DON'T want that to happen, hence WHY I'm complaining.

But you're convinced that I hate GT so it's clearly beyond your cognitive capacity to see reason. Go get your voodoo doll of Bill Gates and stick some pins in it.

Bills Gates is a good human being. He gives back to the world. What have you done?
