What GT5 has become for you?

As close to driving as I can get, until I get a car for my graduation. :grumpy:
 
What is GT5 for me:
1. an interest I can share with one of my sons
2. the only game I play, I love cars, Gran turismo is the one game that has caught and retained my interest
3. an enjoyable pastime, once in a while, I like to fire up the PS3, and drive a car as fast as I can around a circuit
4. I like the way it isn't easy to collect all the cars - I now am only missing one! I didn't like grinding to build funds up in the earlier days of the game,
5. Its the only place you can still buy an unused TVR

quite like the mild customisation, and am playing with photomode occasionally as well
 
A reminder that no body/team/thing is perfect.
 
This year ive played and finished Mass Effect 2, LA Noir, Arkham Assylum, Arkham City, Battle Field 3 and Skyrim. When im done i come back to gt5 knowing there will be an update with a load of new stuff waiting for me. GT5 is unlimited entertainment and more. It lets me drive and experience cars that i otherwise would only see on tv.
 
Similar for me. I keep coming back to GT.

But for some reason this game has become a love-hate relationship for me. It's not PD's fault, but I feel that the new "gaming era" of online play, dlc and all that stuff has kept me from enjoying the game.

Unfortunately I'm one of the people who can't afford a super fast internet service, or even have one available as an option. So I've been stuck with GT5 v1.00 since release, as I watch younger and lesser GT fans get the most out of my favorite game, update after update.

I have around 80 games ranging from Game Cube, PS2, PSP and PS3 so I've been well entertained without GT5 for a while. But like I said before, a console for me is not worth it without Gran Turismo.

At least GT5 XL is coming out soon, which gives me some hope to at least have v2.00. That will get me into GT again.

That's disappointing to read. :( Too bad you live nowhere near me, I'd be happy to let you bring your hardware to my place and we can get it all updated for you.
 
A stress reliever, fun tool, car encyclopaedia, world tour all within my house. That's what it's become for me. GT5 is like a Swiss army knife, it has a bunch of things, but you never get bored and your always discovering even more stuff!

Congratulations to you and rest of the guys, you give hope to youngsters all around the globe and show one can reach heights when mind and soul is set to it, which is more than most of the people on this planet can claim for themselves, me included, and I commend you for it!

That's very nice of you. The worst thing is that it's not like I can't afford it, but the problem is that there is no service available for more than 2 megs. I've upgraded to that speed recently but still isn't enough to update from 1.00 to 2.02. It gets stuck after five hours when it's only at 30% and it messes up my game file everytime.

It's a shame that Polyphony didn't create a system where you can download the patch files to your computer and transfer them to your PS3 via thumb drive. I did a little poking around thinking they might have, and I found out they have not. :(

But to keep this post relevant, currently GT has become something of a replacement for collecting matchbox cars when I was a kid... I think I'm up to over 850 unique cars in my garage.

You might want to google for {redacted}. That helped me tremendously when I needed it for the same reason. Make sure you have a download manager on your PC.

EDIT: ON a second thought, I'd like to avoid wrath of the admins upon me, so the solution is redacted:) It should present no problem to find it though.

Wow... I wonder how many here even knows what that means! But PD really should consider the large number of fans who just can't get to a fast connection for these updates and DLC, besides the choice to buy special updated versions. The PC download route should be considered, especially since you can update the PS3 from a USB drive... as far as I recall, anyhow...

On topic, GT5 has become a virtual car and racing experience for me. Besides racing around on incredibly detailed tracks, competing with impeccably detailed cars, and experiencing surprisingly breathtaking weather and time of day transitions as well as other things (fireworks!), I can enjoy just browsing my garage and gazing at cars as the smooth Jazz music plays for an hour at times.

I love FIREWORKS, though!!!!!! :D lol I'm dumb a lot of the time.

My internet speed is fine, but what MIGHT have been that redacted part for those who needed it? The jakhole may never know. Well, I will, sooon.
 
GT is what it has always been to me. A thing of pleasure.

It's something that I cannot put my finger on. It's like the first beer after work or the first cigarette in the morning...... OK, bad example.

GT5 is what I spent years hoping and waiting for, through lifestyle changes and country of residence changes, there was always one thing I could not leave behind; GT.

I discovered this site because of GT5, I've made friends on this site, because of GT5.

When my day at work drives me to the brink of madness, I switch on, run an hour of the Nordschleife in whatever car and just get away from the real world.

These days it seems, though, that I find myself logging in just to collect my bonus and not even racing, just browsing the dealerships. I long to find competition which usually sees me racing in arcade mode without gaining any XP or credits. Does it bother me? Not really.

What has GT become to me? It's a part of my life, not just a game, but a hobby, something I will never fail to enjoy, despite it's flaws and short comings. It is what it is and it is what I love.

Meeee tooooo.

I've let myself stop doing that because I don't really find it enjoyable (well, obviously). It's why I still want a LEVEL system in the future GT games. The days that I do feel like messing around in GT5 are still realllly fun.

I'm kinda spread everywhere having some family matters so the post was in a rush and then quick edit on a second thought. I'm really not willing to have warnings or discussions for such small tips that could be construed as warez or whatever as it usually goes on public forums such as this one. I left the post as is and I know, looks really stupid now haha:)

Yes, it is a game for me but it's also one of the things that makes me escape from reality and/or relax.
 
GT5 would become my life if we could make our own A-spec races/if more A-spec races was added. Right now, its one of my best friends.
 
It has become for me a way of enjoying cars, be it either watching them (photomode), driving them (cruising online), reading up on them (descriptions), racing them, tuning them, etc. etc.

I also tend to look for real car reviews, then play them in GT5 to see whether it really has over/understeer as mentioned in the review, to see if the 0-60 times are correct, to check if it's topspeed is correct, etc. etc.

On real world tracks in game, i tend to use stock cars, no assists and comfort medium tires to see if i can achieve the same real world laptime in the given car.

Moreso about the watching and driving them. I use comfort hards on the old cars and comfort mediums on cars LIKE the 86 GT, only if they're newer cars in the '00s. It really shows you how alike the physics are too real life, with the exception of the obvious physics flaws that don't affect all driving.

Playing GT5 with a force feedback wheel has ignited my passion for cars. The sense of immersion this game provides is unrivaled. Even my friends are baffled on why I still play this 1 year old game. They just don't understand. Time flies way too fast when I play it too.

Whether it'd be hotlapping cars to achieve their RL Nordschleife lap time or just cruising a day/night track with the HUD off, GT5 delivers like no other.

It is also made by a developer who actually listens to their fans. Thank you for everything Polyphony Digital 👍

To me it's a game. It can decrease/increase stress but always a good piece of entertainment.
 
It's still a very good game for me (yes there is someone else out there who appreciates it).
