Well I've just drank a can of coke and I've noticed they have actually put the RDA of Sugar on the side of the can, it states that every 330ml can of Coca-Cola contains 39% of your RDA of sugar, this equates to 35g of the stuff.

So, 100% of a Hamster's daily intake then. It's still a little worrying considering that 2 measly cans has 80% of your reccommended dosage. Overdose, dehydration, or aspartame. Which to chose, which to chose..

Yep I never said it was healthy. :p

hrm... I wish I'd read this about 5hrs ago, before I started making this mess on my desk:

I developed a milk allergy (which is a pity because I like milk)

I don't like soy milk or rice milk either, they are such a poor substitute.

That sucks! I've gone through about a gallon of milk per week recently.

Soy/rice milk taste like crap too. 👎

Coca-Cola
was named back in 1885 for its two "medicinal" ingredients: extract of coca leaves and kola nuts. Just how much cocaine was originally in the formulation is hard to determine, but the drink undeniably contained some cocaine in its early days.

When you include coca extract, cocaine is in it... like when you drink coffee, caffeine is in it. But it's not like they put white powder in it.

Wikipedia
Frank Robinson, coined the name Coca-Cola, because it included the stimulant cocaine [from the coca] and was flavored using kola nuts, a source of caffeine.

Sooo if Coca-Cola does contain cocaine, then I've been a drug mule all this time.

I agree with Sakiale though, If I had to choose between coke and Sprite, sprite wins definitely.

Ciao!

Cocaine, the white powder, is just an extract of Cocoa leaves itself. It is separated by mashing the leaves in an acidic liquid, which binds to the cocaine molecules. Then the result is vaporized and recrystallized to make the powder you can buy on the street (or so I hear).

Thats all there is to making cocaine, after the extraction the result has the same effects as the white powder you buy on the street, so if Coca-Cola contained either the extract or the crystalline form I would still say it had cocaine in it.

And a poppyseed muffin is the same thing as heroin.

Heroin is synthesized in a lab.

I assume you mean opium, and you can make a higher-quality opium from poppy seeds off a muffin than you can buy on the street.

Sigh you guys worry too much..

I was addicted to coca cola at one point, drinking 24-48 cans a week, it's scary how addicting it is.

Plus, drinking it too much for too long can cause organ problems, so I stopped.

Not to mention problems with your teeth.

I love Coke, but I am too cheap to buy it on a regular basis. Squirt is a close second ;)

Holy crap, how much weight did you lose when you stopped drinking it?

Semantics aside, I think you know a bit too much about drug synthesis :odd:.

I'm hooked on Black Cherry Vanilla coke now. Yum!

Seems I'm having a can a day. Can't stand Pepsi though.....

skip0110 knows a ton about chemistry, he's demonstrated that in the past a ton of times on this board.

*Looks at 2 Liter Pibb Xtra next to me*

Damn....:nervous:

So do I (hey, what does that piece of paper hanging on my wall say? :)). But in school, they teach you the chemistry behind the drugs, not the supermarket recipes for them. That final link, the actual process for making drugs, is, shall we say, an extracurricular pursuit ;)...

Minor quibbling notwithstanding, Coke is the elixir of the gods, and I will not have it slandered. Besides, all of its "negative" properties are negated by adding a shot (or two) of a mysterious brown liquid--one that is crafted in Tennessee...

I can’t even remember what soda tastes like – I haven’t had any for the past three months. Water for me, please.

Thats the reason I never thought chemistry or biology was any fun in school :)

AP Chem is the highest chem I took. But in general, with any subject, you learn 10x more in practice than by looking at theory.

Lets say I learned chemistry from working with rocketry when I was younger. While true, it's not exactly full disclosure.

Also, I want to mention that anyone trying a "supermarket recipe" they found on the internet without understanding what is happening and why its happening is looking for a lot of trouble (and likely pain).

I'll drink to that

I'm in my Coke phase right now. I usually switch between Diet/Zero/C2 or regular Coke, depending on which flavor I'm sick of. :p

No matter which cola I switch to, regular or diet, I don't notice any weight gains or losses. *takes another swig of Coke*

Bugger. I really do enjoy a nice cold coke on a hot day. But 375mL just ain't enough:guilty:

A while ago, (can't remember for sure) I think I drank 3 cans in about 10 or so minutes. Hmmm, I wonder what my internals were like following that....

But seriously, I can live without it. Depending on what mood I'm in, I will gladly have a nice big glass of pure orange juice (not the fake crap:grumpy: ) over a coke.

Same, except I have Milk instead.

I got some braces a few years ago, and really couldn't drink this stuff anymore due to the damage to the brace it will do and the massive stain it would leave on your teeth when you take it off. Plus, I was realising how bad it is for you anyway. The only time I have a fizzy drink now is on a special occasion, and only then it's Lemonade, not Coke.

I want my internals and teeth to last as long as possible on their own, thank you very much.

I don't care what it does to my body, might aswell enjoy life while i can.

You could be dead by tomorrow.

I'm fed up with this 'scare culture' we seem to have in the US and Europe these days. 👎 I'm going to continue drinking coke along with all my other soft drinks. :)

The only difference is that the cocaine you can buy on the street is about 25% pure. It's mixed with all kinds of chemicals including ammonium salt and sodium bicarbonate, and that's just to maintain its "purity". Then they throw in all kinds of stuff to cut its effects and make you want even more.

Just a reminder to everyone else, we're talking abut the old Coca-Cola formula here. The only Coca-Cola to originally have cocaine or coca in it was the original formula, and it was eliminated in 1906.

Wikipedia
The formula for Coke, whose status as a trade secret has been embellished by company lore, originally contained an uncertain amount of cocaine, though this was reduced over time (falling to 1/400th of a grain, or 0.16 milligrams, per ounce of syrup by 1902),[2] and eliminated around 1906 as health regulations were tightened.
