"High Definition" resolutions. There are 480, 720, and 1080. Those are the number of horizontal lines. The following i or p stand for interlaced or progressive scan, p being the better of the two.

If you look at this in real world numbers using 16 x 9 resolution you have ...

853 x 480
1280 x 720
1920 x 1080

That's a lot of pixels.

Interlace means that each frame (30 of them per second) are loaded odd lines then evens. Progressive scan means that all lines are loaded in order from top to bottom. You know, personally, it's doing it so many times per second that I honestly don't see how the human eye can tell the difference, but I'm told it's noticable so whatever.

Bottom line, higher resolution is better. Find a TV that does 1080i and you're good to go.

Yea, I need to get the specs from my book.

Integrated ATSC and Digital Cable Tuner (QAM Unscrambled) with 1080i Resolution Capability
A fully integrated ATSC tuner with the ability to receive off-air high definition broadcasts (up to 1080i resolution) without the need for an external set-top box. A digital cable tuner (QAM) allows for the reception of digital cable signals that are not scrambled.

DVI with HDCP
The Digital Visual Interface (DVI) provides an uncompressed transfer of high definition video from a digital video source to a digital display device. HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) ensures copy protection of the content.

3D Y/C Comb Filter
Combines the adaptive digital processing of a 3 line digital comb filter with 3D motion detection. Eliminates hanging dots and color noise on stationary images. Reduces “dot crawl” and overall picture noise.

Advanced Scan Velocity Modulation (Off/Low/High)
Varies the speed of the electron beam with video transitions to increase apparent sharpness of the edges.

Now I called zenith today to see if my model supported 1080i, ture 1080i, not the upscaled res and to my surprise my model does true 1080i. I just hope gt4 is doing true 1080i because what if my tv puts gt4 in true 1080i but gt4 is doing 1800x1080i, wouldnt the pic on the tv loook strange?

Is 1280 x 720 possible with a Nokia TV ?
If you have to ask then the best bet is that your TV will not support HDTV. If you TV is much more a rectangle then a square then you my have HDTV, check your manual or search with Google, enter your model nr :)
How many of u guys got a 1080i compatible TV, and what model?
Dont have it and will proberly not get it in a long time, no HDTV transmitions here yet so no need for it.

We don't have local HDTV in Taiwan yet either, but imported PDP's from Japan come with built in BS (satellite) tuners. Since we are so close to Japan, we can recieve their Satellite program in TRUE 1080i. You have to see it to believe it. It looks so real its FAKE

When I get my programs in 1080i, the tv sets to 16:9 by itself and boy! The picture looks so clear. It has to be true 1080i because everything is perfect! Only if every channel did 1080i arrrr. Now if gt4 looks as clear as the 1080i programs I have seen, I will completely pass out and wont walk up till gt5 :P
so 2jay, what's your opinion on my tv?

I have a Mitsubishi WS-65311 for the audio/video room, it is a couple years old, but it supports 1080i, but it doesn't have the decoder built in, they would've gladly sold me one with the decoder for only 500 bux more.

I just discovered it displays 1125i ??
I wonder what I can do with the ethernet connection too.

nah, it was too early to pay for a decoder, and when I was ready, I just packaged up the Pre-Amp and sent it back to the factory for an upgrade that did HD, plus it was only half the price of the built in ones

How many programs are available in HD in the states now? Are they all in 1080i?

There isn't all that many programs that are in HD here yet, most of the live sporting events on T.V. are in true HD, and some of the network channels major shows are also in HD.

So even the Satellite networks (i.e. DISH) don't show HD?
