What is this "Spec 2.0"?

I keep reading about this phantomatic Spec 2.0... what is it?
At the moment, nothing.

When a game is launched, it is "Version 1.00". Every time a minor update is made, that increases by 0.01 - so "Version 1.01" is the first minor update. Every time a significant update is made, that increases by 0.10 - so "Version 1.10" would be a major update (or the 10th minor update). Every time a major update is made, that increase by 1.00 - so "Version 2.00" would be the first major update.

GT6 has received 21 minor updates and sits at "Version 1.21" at the moment.

When GT5 was updated to include all of its final features, it was classed as a major update and became "Version 2.00". To go with this, SCEI released a disc copy of the game called "Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2.0" - SCEA called it "XL" and SCEE called it "Academy Edition", but they were all on-disc copies of Version 2.00.

People think that as GT6 has now been updated to include all of its final features, it should be released as on-disc in the same manner, as "Spec 2.0". At present that doesn't exist.

Someone should explain that to SMS.
