I have seen banlog recently and noticed some users (such as gtracedriver) being banned for comparing GT to Forza. What is wrong with it? đź’ˇ

There is nothing strictly wrong with it, but Forza and GT comparisons can get quite passionaite. They're a bit like the Sony-Microsoft wars that originated between the XBox 360 and the PlayStation 3: people tend to be on one side or the other, and attack and defend with equal vigour.

The problem is that these spirited and passionate debates can often degenerate into open flame wars quite quickly. And while most people are even-minded about it all (the Console Wars having ened years ago), a small minority insist on re-opening old wounds. Many from this minority troll the forums, or flamebait in an attempt to reignite the arguments so that they can try and get the last word in.

For this reason, we like to keep Forza and GT comparison threads to the minimum. If they are to be discussed, then we like them to be here, though I do believe there are one or two out there in the GT5 subforum. These threads and the subforum are heavily moderated; there is almost always someone in there if there is an active discussion at hand.

I do not know the specifics of gtracedriver's case. I wasn't the one who banned him. Though looking over the review of his ban, it's quite clear that some of his comments were loaded in nature and were apparently designed with flamebaiting in mind. You should know that we encourage healthy debate here at GT Planet, but when people start sniping across the valley at one another, the moderators have little choice but to deploy and act as peacekeepers. I myself have no issue with Forza-GT or Hot Pursuit-GT discussions (or any other combination you might care to think of), so long as everything is within line of the AUP. If trouble does start, or looks like it is starting, then the moderators will pre-emptively move in and set things straight.

Because I will say this: I've seen what happens when the Forza-GT threads get out of hand. And it's not pretty.

Isn't the problem between GT vs. Forza only really between newer, younger users? It always seems to be the ones who have 10-so posts and didn't read the AUP. If we had smart, regular users discussing GT vs. Forza, then I'm pretty sure it'd be like a chat over tea.

Maybe if there was a section aimed at users with Premium it wouldn't be a problem? Since they've invested money into the website, im sure that they're willing to have an adult-like debate over the two video games.

There is a forum for Premium users. But that is not really a solution - there are several people who can count the number of posts they've made on one hand and have bought Premium status.

The my dad(gt, ps3, etc) is better than your dad(forza, xbox etc) threads are amusing, but boring in equal measures!

If I want to see them sort of threads, I go to gamefaqs, if I want well thought through comments and discussion gt planet it is.

Trouble is the trolls are everywhere, if you give them an inch, anarchy will quickly ensue.

I'm all for debate, but I have a low tolerance when certain individuals (and I could name and shame every last one of them) chastise Forza for whatever reason, yet excuse most if not all of the same shortcomings GT has. That, or they don't notice it, it doesn't bother them, or some vagrant excuse thereof.

Myself and Scaff had a bit of trouble trying to keep the Forza 4 wishlist thread on topic. He succeeded, obviously because he can threaten a great deal worse than I could.

That is actually the type of thread I'm looking for

Too bad GameFAQs boards don't look as pretty as GTPlanet's.

No wonder that 100 posts minimum rule was enacted in the GT5 forum until last month. Trolls make me lose faith in humanity.
