What is wrong with the Lamborghini Murcielago in this game?

I just drove the lamborghini murcielago lp 640 after a friend of mine told me how horrible it was in this game, and I gotta say, WTF polyphony? The car is nearly undriveable, with INSANE amounts of off-throttle oversteer on corner entry and a tendency to overreact to counter steering that is so exaggerated, it renders the car nothing more than a pretty looking paper weight. While I have not driven the lp 640 in real life, I have driven a regular murcielago quite a few times (I work for an exotic car share firm), and I can tell you, it does NOT drive like that.

There are also many other cars in this game that drive unusually badly, and because the tuning algorithms in this game are crap (which is made painfully clear by the fact that realistic suspension settings are not rewarded, and even extreme settings only net vague changes in car behavior), there is little that can be done about it.

The strange thing, however, is how spot on some of the other cars feel. For instance, the Ford GT, which I have quite a bit of real-life seat time in, feels remarkably good in this game. Granted, no video game can truly replicate how a car drives in real life, this game does a good job at showcasing the overall experience of this an many others, and it is because of this that cars like the lp 640 stand out so much.

Whether it's a lack of proper programming time on certain cars, or bugs/anomalies in the physics engine, I hope that future patches will address at least some of these issues, because it really detracts from the experience in this game when you spend hard earned money on a car that is just not up to snuff.

You should drive the Lotus Elise at the Top Gear-special events.

You will have the laugh of your life....a car, well know for its unbelievable grip and drivability, let you have the drift challenge of your life.

Lol, yeah I forgot about that one. Granted, if you look at the driving options menu before starting that race, you'll see that it has "comfort tires" on, but my god, even the worst econo tires in the world don't feel like that. The car may as well have ice skates on:confused:.

Oh my god, the Elise. You can't touch the throttle while the wheels are turned without stepping out.

But thanks for expressing my outrage, Oversteerin'. When I was doing the challenge I kept saying "Show me a Murci that handles like this in real life" out loud in frustration.

There are many many factors you failed to mention. Such as, what tires the car has, how fast you drove it,and how good a driver you are. Also, there are many differences between the normal Murcielago, and the LP-640. Also, I'm guessing you didn't take the Murcielago around a race track at high speeds. There is a huge difference between how a car feels at low speed compared to high speed.

Add to that the fact that your comparing a video game to a real life car that happens to not actually be the correct car to begin with. All in all then, I would say the LP-640 drives the same in the game as it does in reality, under the exact same circumstances.

How ridiculous...I hope they fix these things via DLC and/or patches. I gave up on the Top Gear challenge with the Lotus after I spun out on every attempt at the first corner 5 times in a row. The Murci is an abomination. I was wondering if the real car did that, and how pissed I'd be if I had spent that much money on a car that handles like a bath tub. The Countach is far and away a better handling car (at least in the game).

The best part is that the Murcielago LP640 Chrome Line is one of the 'special cars' I got for pre-ordering the CE. What a joke! I would have preferred a ZR1 or a regular GTR instead of a Murci with cool livery, handling as it does.

Because a Lambo is not a race car. It is a wedge with a large motor lodged in the back. lol

Truthfully, I think that PD got the brake bias backwards on several cars. For example, the Z4M will always lock the rears first - which is completely backwards. From the one round I had to drive the boat known as a Murcielago, it seemed the same. As in the rear tires kept going red into the corner, then they became the front tires.

Extreme rear bias means the rear is already stepping out a bit, then once you lift, your done.

It has always been the case that some cars in the GT series are more accurate to real life and others are not even close to their real life counterparts.
Plus, as soon as someone on here knows how a certain car drives in real life thats when all the mistakes in the game are exposed. Its normal :)
In my case, driving an 06 Evo every day I see how realistic the car in the game handles. But then again, those cars are easy to drive in real and ingame. ;)

To be honest, I enjoyed stock LP 640. It may be 4WD but I kind of liked it for not being glued to the track. Even after some upgrades (tires, weight reduction) it still was a raging bull. I was racing against Zondas at Nurburgring and had sooo much fun trying to control it! I was like "Aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!" all the time.

When you drove the real life car, were you also driving like a bat out of Hell without a regard for your own personal safety -- like in a game? While GT5 may not be 100% accurate, it has a very good feel for a number of its cars, and they tend to do very bad things when you push the thresholds of adhesion, as they would in real life. Also, lifting off the throttle in anything not FF at corner entry -- whether in a game or real life -- is usually not a very good thing to do.

+1

It's almost like they set up things like this so you have to use that feature (the Skid Recovery for the TGTT Logus Challenge) to win. Kind of like what I read in the NASCAR Special Events, where turning of ABS makes it easier to win (haven't tried that yet).

I've been lucky enough to drive a Lotus Exige S around the Nordschleife and I must say that although the game only has the regular Elise, the handling seems very off. I love Gran Turismo, but it leads me to wonder how many other cars aren't modeled correctly.

I bought the Murcielage LP and am truly dissapointed. Trying to keep this thing from flying off the track is borderline maddening. I've sunk the car as low as it can go and use traction control of 10 but man it's tough

Lol, yeah the lotus was hilarious! I just turned up traction & ABS, and took a few laps to figure out it's easy to just outbrake everyone.
Of course that was often punctuated by me screaming at the tv over how stupidly inconsistent the collision disqualification rule is when the buggers hit me!
If anyone's having trouble doing the VW van lap, try doing the lotus one first ;) Worked for me. It's easier than it first seems.

I haven't had a chance to try the Ford GT yet but so far all the MR cars I've driven feel like they have caster wheels in the back! I'm kinda bummed because the Murc is one of my favorite cars and I know it doesn't handle like this, still a fun challenge though.

Just a tip - use the break and the gas at the same time to keep it stable and the back end from shooting off the track.

maybe its just the chromeline, i cannot tame my chromline, all AIDS off with ABS 1 , driving this at daytona = suicide, i cannot even finish the race!!!

I turned on ALL AIDS to win the lambo event using the chromline lp640, i had no choice, even with the aids it handles like a tank and slides weirdly.. lol

A lot of people complaining about some cars behaviors... specially the fastest and exotic ones. Are they some kind of test drivers? Real racing drivers? How to they know how the real thing is?What experience do they have? Another racing sim? NFS hot pursuit? Do they have a wheel? A decent wheel? Or are they playing with ds3?

Really?

It was fine for me until my son upgraded it and gave it MO POWAH! Now it's all over the place. It takes a very gentle touch on the throttle, which is tough when you need to throttle to keep it in the corners. Try dual gas/brake, and like others have mentioned, set the TCS and ABS to help if you can't handle the power. :)

Kid, you don't have enough real life experience to even think about arguing with me. I have more track experience than you can shake a stick at (over a decade), and have driven everything from japanese imports to european exotics on street, auto-x, and track. What does your experience consist of? Playing video games that you think are realistic? Please...

In any case, the base murcielago and lp 640 share the same chassis, and aside from minor suspension tweaks, are extremely similar in terms of driving dynamics. The lp-640's only real difference is in straightline power, but that would not account for the problem that I was describing.

The bottom line is that while some cars in this game feel surprisingly accurate (all things considered), none are true representations of their real-life counterparts because it's a ****ing video game, kid, get over it. The point of this thread was to see how many other people have noticed these inconsistencies so that hopefully, the developers will take notice and issue patches at some point down the road.

There is definitely something wrong with the chromeline lambo, it has an aversion to corners and braking, like Dracula has an aversion to garlic and crosses!

I had been driving the 458 Italia (which is amazing) and then switched to the LP-460 Chrome Line and was amazed at how much harder it was to drive. My guess for the significant difference was the increased power, size and weight of the Lambo. Snap oversteer under breaking makes sense due to the weight (3671 vs. 3042). (Sport Hard tires for both)

ahah that got me laughing to myself, my work colleuges probably think im a freak :sly:

I finally got tired of the thing randomly sliding out of control mid-corner and bought the fully-customizable suspension. A little toe-in and softened suspension settings at the rear and it's much easier to keep in a straight line now. Still not perfect and feels disconnected from the road, but there are a lot less of those "holy crap!" moments.
