Im not going to say which is the best, but the most fun 4X4 has to be the tuned Mazda Crossport. I have a Matt Black one and it goes on two wheels :D

Well, considering it has 4WD, opinions may differ:lol:

My favourite 4x4 in GT5 has to be the Escudo:ill:

However, if this was in GT5, it would get my vote hands down:tup:

My personal favourite has to be the Stagea 260rs Autechversion.
It packs 582 horses, and at its first go on the ring it came in at 7:08.
Here it is at Daytona, beating supercars at the supercar festival :sly:

That looks nice mate. I take it to find this I will have to hope it turns up in Used cars? Can not see it in main dealership.

4x4 is an abbreviation used in place of four wheel drive
AWD is merely full-time 4WD with a center differential

So with that; I am going to say the LP670 is my fav "4x4" in GT5

I wouldn't think so haha If you search '4X4' in google, you wouldn't find a GT-R in the pictures, or even a AWD road car :P
If you search either 4x4 or AWD in wikipedia it redirects to 4WD :P

People differentiate 4x4 with AWD. AWD usually refers to a car that is powered by all 4 wheels. 4x4 usually refers to trucks that are 4WD. Essentially, both systems are the same, but in terms of the OPs question, people will give different answers, cars or trucks. To me, 4x4 means a truck. To most, especially people in North America, they will probably think the same.

Some modern trucks and very many SUV's actually use a 4WD system with a locking center differential....so AWD.

Both of the vehicles the OP stated (Range Rover and Mitsubishi Shogun) use that type of system.

4x4 isn't the same as AWD. A vehicle that is 4x4, has a selectable transfer case to shift between 2WD and 4WD, normally 2HI,4HI, and 4LOW. AWD is always in "4WD" and has a differential in the transfer case to distribute power. Very few cars/trucks in the game could actually be considered 4x4.

To me, 4x4 means off-roader (most often with selectable 2/4WD and high/low ratio), 4WD means usually 2WD but with a locking centre differential so when the two usually driven wheels slip and AWD means things like Evos, Imprezas, Skyline GT-Rs, the GT-R, most Lamborghinis; basically all wheels being driven full-time and not just when two have no traction.

I remember once at Santa Pod drag strip, when I was younger, I saw several cars only spinning up one wheel and thought 'why would one-wheel drive be useful at a drag strip?'... Didn't realise what an LSD did.

So my favourite 4x4 in the game is the 80's Pajero Rally Raid Car, I wish I had one but I had more important things to buy on the one occasion it popped into the UCD. Shame.

Edit: I started writing this, went off to do other stuff, then came back, hence why the first paragraph is so redundant now.

At it's base, yes they are the same since AWD is an evolution of 4WD. 4x4 simply means the vehicle has 4 wheels and all 4 wheels are powered at the axle-ends.

Rally Raid since it's the closet thing to a 4x4 i have. AWD cars aren't 4x4, maybe thats just a North America thing.

My favourite 4x4 in GT5? Easy, the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen, proof that handling can be challenging and fun even at relatively low speeds.
