Now that all of these new trailers have been released in the last month or so, all closely resembling the quality of Killzone that was so heavily disputed (along side other titles like Formula One Racing, Fight Night, and Motorstorm) what is your opinion now? Do you feel better about PS3? Or worse? Or have you remained the same with your opinon?

Personally, I feel as though sony has proved their worth, and it has nothing to do with their hardware.

They have provided devlopers with amazing development tools, and it is showing, because all of these games we've seen look BETTER than most of the technical demonstrations that we saw at E3. That speaks more than any of the games themsevles IMO.

Also, games like DMC4 and MGS4 look STUNNING, running in engine, etc et, yet people still have their doubts about "in game" which is exactly the same as in engine. What are your thoughts about this?

Discuss :)

Umm my opinion is pretty blank tbh, the pads look like silver bananas, it's pretty damn powerful, and I've seen some vids that if they are in game, it's certainly very very impressive. The problem is that they show only videos, cut scenes etc, rather then real game play, which is what leaves people skeptical, that's all. Hell some game play footage may exist, I just havn't seen that many videos.

Anyway, I'm looking forwards to it, I'm sure it will be a superb machine.

That's my opinion.

*Just looked at MGS4 screen shots*

Looks great, and actually looks in game too.

That's my opinion.

While I can see where you are coming from, and I can agree, I still feel as though it's misdirected doubt.

The showing of gameplay really isn't going to entice a buyer any more than any of the trailers they've shown.

The problem with showing "real gameplay" is that until the final stages of the game, it can be buggy, which is where MS was during E3, displaying buggy games that gave them a bad wrap for the show.

Also on the note of MGS, we've always seen cinimatic trailers shown via cutscene, but the in game visuals have never once been less than what we've seen in trailers. So I'm confident, that if MGS can look this good, that games like GT, Devil May Cry, God of War, Tekken, etc, will all look AMAZING on this console.

Really I anxiously await the announcement of another Silent Hill and some screen shots. That would make my day.

edit: Also code, is it really necessary to comment on how the controllers "look"? I mean...it's a bit shallow from a gamers point of view to judge the controller based on looks, especially when you're so skeptical towards visuals based just on "looks"...just seems a bit unfair to weigh the two differently.

for me im going to wait till i have played a machine to make up my mind, so many times have i been sucked into all the promises and hype of a machine that im a bit of a scepticle soul these days.

That's because konami allways use the in game engine for em, so I doubt they would break the trend for no reason.

The killzone 2 vid was rendered at 5 fps...5fps man, that's why it looked so damn amazing. Hell if they can make the game look like that, run like that, and flow like that, they have me sold. I don't think they can. If I'm proved wrong, GOOD!

I was only kidding. :D

...banana!

It's still too eary to see much real game play, we have seen the Unreal engine which was very impressive for a couple of months work. I think the PS3 is definitely the most capable next gen system. I think I will be getting one for MGS4 alone, I might also get an XB360 though, if I do it will be the first time I've owned more than one console on sale at the same time. I'll come back after I have more TGS coverage, so far theres not as much to go on as I'd like, but you have to remember the PS3 is over a year away. I have to say, VGT is visually great, and MGS4 just blew me away. I haven't seen much else from the TGS yet.

I'm not sure how tech savvy you are, but imagine the bandwidth difference.

From the regular bus they had ont he original dev kit, which was around 800mhz or so.

Now picture similar hardware with a 15Gb/s bus in, and 10Gb/s bus out. MAJOR difference.

Then add another 700Mhz to the processor speed. And MANY MANY more tools for development.

And you will have the resulting killzone trailer running at least 30+ FPS.

And are you sure you watched the MGS4 trailer? There is much more going on than I think you're giving it credit for, KZ just moved at such a fast pace during the trailer I think you were misled, but IMO, there is MUCH more going on in spots of the MGS4 trailer, and I still think it looks better than Killzone.

It'll be hard getting the trailer right now, it's new so people will be getting it from all over at the same time. It's worth the wait though, most of it seems to focus on the animation and how snake moves andhow he's animated just like a real person like the way he checks his magazines, cocks.......... his gun ect. It's far better than any animation I've seen in a game before. You could make a movie out of this and market it as a CGI film.

Downloading as we speak. Hows it compare to Ghost Recon 3, because the footage of that game simply blew my mind, especially the animation.

Not seen GR3 yet so I can't say. But MGS4 was fantastic, I'll have to check GR3 out.

If your connection speed to the server is slow, I have a link for a much faster download, it's kind of "not open" to most people, it's a personal link from someone, so it's not as public.

http://tallah.org/video/mgs4.wmv

Dunno how the qquality is compared to the others, but as of now all are cam vids anyway, I'm sure a high res version will be on the way.

Theres a coming soon download link for the vid on a Konami website so that's worth checking on every now and then. The links in the MGS4 thread.

Oh man...that is freaking stunning.

*goes in to Nizar mode*

I mean UGH! Looks crap, Ninja Gaiden looks 20 million times better.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

My love for the PS3 got bigger than ever! Good link Tha_con! 👍 I would still like to see the hi-res trailer also. :O

This Generation of consoles is going to be soooo awesome! :O

What's my opinion of the PS3 now..................

............well worth waiting for eventhough sony is keeping much of the stuff under raps which can be annoying at times......but we can be assured it will be very powerful......

............and also is worth not giving in to buying a 360 just because it comes out earlier (thats if your a playstation person!).....Im saving my money and waiting for 2006......

Are u guys really impressed with those trailers ? cos let me tell ya ain't none of them impressed me enough . TBH , I was expecting movie-quality graphics from the PS3. and although the MGS3 and KZ2 trailers look pretty good , they're definitly not the kind of graphics I hope to see with the new generation hardware. I remember having read in a mag or so a Sony responsible saying to the journalist they had managed to make an early PS3 dev kit handle a nature scene where the grass was moving by the wind and even antz modelled with million polygons could be seen on the ground !! and it looked totally real. So, if photorealism is achieveable with this current gen , they'd better run on all cylinders to come up with something better than they have already =p

Movie like quality? Listen man, even a PS3 has it's limits, games are not going to look photo real for at least a couple of generations yet. The MGS4 graphics are utterly utterly superb, some of the best I've ever seen. Rendering abit of grass and a few ants is totally different to rendering high action, detailed scenes with 20+ people on screen at once, with tanks, dust, dirt, explosions, complex uber high quality animation, while lighting, shading, and casting real time shadows for it all. Then there's the special effects, sound etc etc. The ps3 is doing stuff of THAT quality at 60fps, that's impressive, hell it puts allmost every CGI intro I've seen to shame.

I think he means the quality of the image (the resolution of the image)

Riiight...and I suppose you want flying cars next year as well :dopey:

You're going to be severly disappointed for a few generations to come.

PS3 puts most PC's to shame because it render's this in real time, while most "movie quality visuals" that you speak of actually take day's to render 10 minute scene's.

Please, entertainme more! lol.

And the "magazine" you speak of, does not exist. If there were such a technically demo, or a statement made by a sony "responsible" (I'm assuming you ment representative), it would have been made much more public than one "magazine". Stop making things up, and you know that this does impress you. If not, you need to lower your expectations, because as of now, PS3 has shown to be the most stunning next gen console... now we just need games to go along with it (which there looks to be some on the way).

Nizar is gonna provide more entertainment. He thinks that GT4 looks better then PGR3, that MGS4 looks "dissapointing", and that the PS3 is 100% more powerful then the the 360, what next?

How can he rave about GT Visions, which for a PS3 game looks quite...average, yet not find MGS4 mind blowing? Does not compute. MGS4 looks utterly awesome, the detail, the animation...ughhhH!!! Amazing.

MGS4 looks like sex. I want a direct feed vid though. They made snake look like Clint Eastwood. Very funny. Maybe its just me....

I'm not sure which system is really more powerful in game terms. Both of them will far outperform an equivalent PC, both of them have lots of fast ram and a streamlined architecture, both of them have graphics chipsets more advanced than we civilians have access to right now.

I was surprised to hear that the 360 uses Direct X, but I shouldn't be. This is a Microsoft product after all, and that's not a bad thing. It gives developers a familiar environment to code in if they want to go beyond the dev kits MS sold them, and a 3ghz PC can push around some stunning graphics as it is.

I think we've reached a plateau of sorts. From now on, all games will look mindblowingly wonderful, and it'll simply be a matter of picking a console that has the game library you want. I imagine that eventually I'll have all three next gen consoles, because eventually the 360 will have a killer exclusive game, and I'm definitely getting a Nintendo Revolution. Even though it's kind of the ugly stepchild in terms of performance comparisons, the games will still be as wonderful as ever.

I'd give the performance edge to Sony simply because they have some mad scientists who can wedgie in some incredible chipsets and do more with them than other companies. And this comes from a guy who HATES Sony with a passion.

But I can hardly wait to fondle the PS3, the next Gran Turismo, and... hopefully a controller that is NOT shaped like a boomerang. At least not completely. :sly:

I like the fact that ps3 will have hardwere accelerated Ageia physics standard(cell based optimized software), that should create some very nice physics effects only a PC running the Physx card can match. Ageia makes realistic car damage possible along with cloth and hair effects done in hardware instead of software like Spinter Cell used. Game makers will not have to buy any licenses to use it or Havok(like all games now) and games can use it free of charge. Its just sony who pays for every system sold so now would be a good time to buy Ageia :).

I agree with code about the GT vision videos. They do look avarage but we must not forget the game wont be at least close to finish by 2007 some time after MGS4.

I cant wait until more is revealed about RSX and cells physical capabilities and not theoretical.

HA thats funny, Photoreal graphics wont be achivable for some time, maybe one off renders or even prerendered stuff will look real but ingame graphics will still be limited for a good while, maybe even till we get quantum computers (2010/2015)???

PS3 and the Box 360 will provide a considarble leap in graphics worthy enough of the title of next gen, MGS4 looks stunning and so dose alot of the stuff coming out on ps3 (what weve seen so far) GT visions looks like an updated version of GT4 and thats because it is (more cars on track and the such).

i cant wait till im racing against Ayrton Senner in a holo deck :D
