What is your "test track"?

I was using Daytona Infield and I've switched to Indy Infield. For general tuning, something like Grand Valley Reverse.
 
First : I use Tsubka to find my cars handling characteristics, really helpful and the track does find lots of flaws with my car's tune.

Secondly : I use HSR to find the cars potential,

Lastly : I use cape ring to test my cars capabilities :D
 
I use the Top Gear track for setup testing and general car comparisons:
Its corners are designed so that each one brings out a different characteristic of a car and its short enough that I can produce a ton of "consistent" laps in little time.

Once I get a stable setup on the TGTT I move to the 'Ring for a shakedown and to set a true lap comparison time. I think the ring gives a better benchmark since it magnifies the differences between cars (if the driver is consistent).

And if I want to find top speed I use Special Stage Route 7. The tunnel usually gets a car to its top speed (though I'm pretty sure my tuned Veyron can get above 265 with some tweaking).

Has always been Laguna Seca, with Gran Turismo, rFactor and iRacing; I have more seat time at this track than any three other tracks combined, so familiarity and consistency on hitting marks (even though there are differences between the three) lends itself to accurate testing.

Agree, Laguna Seca is just a fantastic track. This track is available on a lot of simulator racing games this makes it worthwhile to master and also allows some comparison between cars and times either with games or actual racing.

Clarkson must've had so much fun with the NSX on Laguna and the PS2.
 
I use the High Speed Ring, because it has wide sweeping corners and some nice straights. I'm going there to see the performance of the car, not me. A track with too many sharp corners and you are introducing driver error into the test.
 
Always Tsukuba or Suzuka. i find these the most enjoyeable tracks and also very good for testing.
 
Don't have one in particular as for me it depends on what i'm testing

Special Stage Route 7 for a max speed test
Top Gear track for a quick test
Nurburgring for a more thorough test

Which track do you take a new car onto to test it out?

Since GT4 I've always used Nürburgring Nordschleife, and actually thought it would be most people's favourite but I've recently asked a couple of friends and was surprised to learn that they prefer to test cars out on Suzuka.

So where do you take a new car?

i have to stick with you here,i just love the ring:lol:
 
Nurburgring to test oversteer, understeer, grip, acceleration and top speed. Also, i test my skills since its a very difficult course to keep track of.
 
GT really needs to bring back Complex String!
Other wise I use Tsukuba and TGTT. For Top speed runs Le Mans or SSR7.
 
I take it to my favorite track in any racing game that has it: Circuit de la Sarthe. I love those long straightaways, the quick braking, and the sharp turns that follow...
 
I have always taken my cars to Tsukuba, nice small tight and twisty track... you can certainly see if changes you make to the car improve lap times

Same. Nothing beats it for doing laps and just screwing around with your car.

My other favorites are Trial Mountain, (best GT original track) Indy speedway, (not the oval version) and Nordschliefe

The two tracks I hate are Tsukuba and the longest Cape Ring track.
 
I can't imagine why anyone would use Nordschliefe as a 'test' track; it takes 8 minutes to complete a lap!

My test track of choice is Deep Forest; it's got elevation changes, low-speed sections, high-speed sections, and it's reasonably short. I sometimes use Special Stage Route 5, but only because it's so damn beautiful.
 
I made my own test track, its got long straights, tight corners and a high downforce section, so I can see the car's strengths and weaknesses well.
 
For me when i tune i think my intital tuning starts at Trial Mountain... because of it layout... the track has different types of corners at somewhat quick speeds... and quick directional changes... same goes for Deep Forest... and in GT4 i also used El Capitain i think all because they were great for suspension tuning.. cause you can really max out the cars suspension.. really good for getting the response you want from the shocks... then Final test is the Nurburgring....

For the same reason auto makers develop their cars there. If it can perform exceptionally well there, it can perform exceptionally well anywhere.

I use Nordschliefe for a full-on test run but usually only after spending plenty of time tweeking settings on Trial Mounting. I really enjoy the corners at TM and for me is the best place to play with suspension settings. The Nordschliefe is for me the ultimate test of a car (set-up wise)
