What is your "test track"?

For drifting I use Eiger Nordwand (no better track for the job IMO), Route X for Top Speed (what else? lol), and just about any other track for all-around-ness, lol.
 
I like Suzuka, personally. But I think it favours MR or RR cars too much... it has a lot of fast corners so I think the understeer of 4WD or FF cars is too much of a handicap. Fuji, Tokyo and Spa seem similar that way - whatever's fastest on Suzuka will be fastest on those as well for me.

Tracks with slow corners (eg. London, Eiger Nordwand) seem to favour AWD because of their quick acceleration and stability. Then again, maybe it's just crappy driving on my part. :D

Trial Mountain and Deep Forest may be a bit more well-rounded for different drivetrains. But again maybe it's just my driving style.
 
My personal course Toscana 14 (yes, very imaginative).

6km, long straight into a sweeper, the technical section is 2/3 of it designed to be more of a twisty mountain pass, it flows really well and is organic as possible with GT5 CM.

Avg. speed i estimate is 120kmh.

Because of its road like layout and undulating twisty sections, it does not lend itself well to Racecars, in that case i use Spa.
 
Grand Valley Reverse! Basically it has all the corners you can come across. :dopey:

Also it's not that difficult to remember.
To master ... that's another thing.

Trial Mountain, because i know the track well, but probably favours AWD cars, due to the many slow tight corners.
 
Usually I test them on Monza, Suzuka, Laguna Seca, Grand Valley full or a selfmade Eifel Circuit
 
My test track would be the track that I'm racing next. There is nothing like putting 25 to 30 laps on a track just to get to know the track.
 
Deep Forest Raceway was my first rince and repeat location - Mostly as in the Eurochamp ASpec event it payed out a nice dollop of cash and I really like the flow of the track.

Generally used for Tyre Testing and evaluation of the car in stock format.

If I had to test now... Maybe Suzuka East -

Short lap, fairly demanding set of esses would give me an idea of how balanced the car was, enough of a straight for me to get the brakes strong enough without too much blocking

It's got everything you need for a test lap. Straightaway, plenty of turns (at various speeds). Heavy braking.

This......... add to that, some of the corners are off camber as well so it covers everything IMO......
 
Which track do you take a new car onto to test it out?

Since GT4 I've always used Nürburgring Nordschleife, and actually thought it would be most people's favourite but I've recently asked a couple of friends and was surprised to learn that they prefer to test cars out on Suzuka.

So where do you take a new car?

I generally use Nurburgring 24hr because you know if brakes and anti-sway bars are ok in the first few turns, and the whole track tests everything. Too low and you spin in "The Carousel"; GP/F can't tell you that. You need more travel to run the whole "Ring" efficiently and more gear, especially if racing more than 1 lap.

um while i respect your thoughts, the "carousel" is unique to the ring so you really don't need it to test a car in that spot for other tracks. If it bottoms out there and causes you to spin you only need to make adjustments for that track, not any others.....the other thing i find with Nurburg is there is just too much variation over the length of the track so its hard to get a baseline. it doesnt have one type of characteristic that you can tune for....I am sure that's just me though !!
 
I usually use Trial Mountain because I know the track so well; I can usually hop in any car, even one I haven't driven before, and after a few warmup laps I can start clicking off laps within half a second of each other.
 
I've read the OP but he doesn't state what he's testing for, anyone know?
 
I have a custom Eiffel track and I also use Trial Mountain.
My track is smooth and has a good mix of high, medium and low speed corners and Trial Mountain really put your suspension settings to the test. :-)
