I have a pair of these:

Sennheiser MX170s for portable use:

Sony MDRv-150s for laptop use:

The MDRvs were £15 and Sennheiser MX170s were £8 from HMV. Both sets of headphones are really, really good. I prefer the MDRVs but the cable is too long to use for going out and about, I have also found that they tend to get caught up in the wheels of the chairs at the college but they seem to have held up pretty well.

HDJ - 2000

Absolute monsters. I'd write a short review or something but I'm slightly distracted by how god damn good these sound. And they're so comfortable, too. The comfort was the biggest reason for me upgrading to these, but the difference in audio quality is amazing. And I suppose one factor in the quality is the fact it's got a seal around my ear rather than sitting on top of it, but still.

Incredible things.

SOL_REPUBLIC_Ultra_collage.jpg

These, Sol Republic Tracks Ultras. The
I love these. Not to expensive, but still the most expensive by the company ($180 vs. $200 for the cheapest beats)

Great headphones, you can change the bands. If a speaker breaks, buy new speakers. If the wire breaks, buy a new wire. If the band breaks (which is impossible) buy a new band. Never have to spend full price again (unless you want to)

I've been using a set of panasonic in ear headphones I got last Christmas for pretty much everything since...well last Christmas.

HC6Tt.jpg

This Christmas I got a set of AKG Quincy Jones Q460's from my parents. They're another one of the celebrity branded headphones, but from my listening to them and other reviews I've found, the general consensus is that they're better than the other celebrity rebrands. They're my first decent pair oh headphones I've used, and it's definitely a much better listening experience compared to using crappy earbuds. I'm rediscovering a lot of my favourite songs since using them.

If it had been my purchase, I probably wouldn't have bought the Q460's, I would have either bought the K450 that the Q460 is based on, or the K 518's. I'm happy with them though, and dad lost the receipt , so I'll just keep them. The bass is a lot better than I was expecting with them being on ear headphones, but the top end leaves a little to be desired. That being said, what II've read in reviews and since tried, is that using a treble booster EQ evens out the sound and gives you a more even sound profile. Overall, they're quite nice, are a good size, look good, and you don't sacrifice a ton for the portability.

Just got some Marley Freedom Collections( I think that's what they're called). And some Turtle Beach PX5s so I can listen to my own music while playing games. The PX5s are sweet but the Marleys are definitely NOT worth the 200 base price. Thank goodness I got them for 75% off.

UrBeats headphones that I got for free with my new phone, work brilliantly, slightly worried about how thin the cable is near the earbuds and that the earbuds themselves are really heavy (made of solid aluminium). The sound quality is so much better then my normal cheap (£2) headphones I buy, I can actually hear bass now.

They are the same as in this picture apart from being in white.

^ NICE!
I got some random skullcandy buds for christmas, they are basically ipod heaphones lol I didnt want them to be expensive because i always lose them after a month for some reason :P

I prefer anything thats electronic to have some weight to it, unless one of its functions is being light. Having a full aluminum housing is also good because if you ever drop them they wont split open and break the seal which is imperative for a good sounding set of buds.

Also, about those Sol Republics, i like how everything is interchangeable/replaceable/upgradeable. It would be sweet if you could just buy a head band, a cable and have the ability to choose from a wide array of different speakers all with different specs. Basically tailoring headphones for yourself. I don't know if that's their direction but that's what i would like to see happen XD

I gave my Sony MDR-XD200's to my sister and just received the white-box version of Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones. I'm not good at describing sound quality and I may mix up some terms as a total lo... erm amateur and I really should give them more listening time but anyway, here are my first impressions.

First of all, these feel very comfortable to me which is highly important, my ears fit in just fine, very sturdy and thick structure despite the swiveling joints, which are strong (the leatherette pads on the cans and the headband are much softer than I initially thought) and I think they look great too, excellent build quality in my opinion. 👍

Lots of punchy (nearly booming) bass even when listening via Novation's amp but it's still very clean, much cleaner low frequencies and midrange than the MDR-XD200 (can't really go comparing cans with over 100€ price difference, to be honest... :p). Treble sounds alright and precise, I don't hear any disturbing sibilance or hissing. The noise isolation is wonderful and the clamping force is a bit tight but not uncomfortably tight, I could wear these around my head for hours. The half-coiled cord is just the right length for my use, robust and thick.

So I'm happy with these, they cost me 126,87€ but they're clearly worth every single cent. :)

Sony has been making these MDR-V6 cans for 25 years now, and they're still one of the most popular sets they sell. They're a little flat, they don't boost the bass like a lot of newer sets do, but I like them better that way. They're very clear and crisp, and have a fantastic range. I'm no audiophile, and I'm sure there's a lot of Grado's and Senns out there that blow these out of the water. But they are my first foray into owing a set of "real" headphones, and so far, I love 'em.

Talk to the salesmen (?) at the Regent Street Apple store which one should I invest for a good headset (1st time) and he recommended this over the Beats since the latter appears to be getting lot of complains about the build quality and durability. He also point out that among all the other headsets that was on the shelve, he would pick these.

The sound quality is really excellent since I used a crappy earpiece to replace my recently broken 1+ year old iPhone earpiece before. I also like it how it's sort of cancels out the noise around me. My friends really like it and they feel they are in a concert when they used it.

Harmon/Kardon make great stuff.

Tried those in Best Buy and they sounded awesome IIRC.👍

I don't know the exact model, but a pair of Panasonic in-ear buds I got for $20 at Zellers. Great quality for the price. Whenever they go south, though, I'd like to move up in the headphone world.

Any recommendations for a pair of in-ears for $50-75? I listen mostly to guitar based music if that means anything.

I have a pair of Nixon Master Blasters.

I didn't pay anywhere near the $200+ that they MSRPed at. They're definitely not set up for mastering, but as "listening" headphones, they're quite competitive with other serious (i.e. not Beats/Bose etc) offerrings in the range, and they actually sound a whole lot like similarly-priced Audio-Technicas, which is interesting because it was rumored that the speakers themselves were outsourced to A-T. Doesn't hurt that they look super cool, either.

I've had a lot of popular decent headphone options like HD280s, PX100s, ATH-M50s, Klipsch S4 (my current "good" earbuds) and used a lot of others, like Grado, AKG, higher-end Sony, etc, so for what it's worth my frame of reference is reasonable and I'm still pretty impressed by the Nixons.

Sony MDR-V6

Price: $67 (Amazon)

These are my first serious set of headphones, I almost went for the Audio Technica ATH-M50's but they cost twice as much with similar reviews.

(FYI, I used my Iphone 5 64gb as my source)

Comfort: 4.0/5 they are very comfortable for long listening sessions, though at first I found them rather confining (your ears almost touch the drivers) but now I really enjoy wearing them. If you do need a little more cush, beyrdynamics makes some velour pads for about $20

Sound Quality:

The bass is very tight, clean and controlled, more so than any stereo I've ever heard. The 40mm drivers are very quick moving, even the fastest beats never become muddled or loose.
The highs are gorgeous, the "send-a-chill-down- your-spine-at-the-climax-of-a-song-you've-heard-a-thousand-times" gorgeous. Some people say its too sharp, but I enjoy it.
Put on Eddie Money: Take me home tonight
At the 2:32 time index, the trumpet let out a blast that will melt your ears off! Most audio systems shred it to bits, making it painful to listen to at volume, or its flat and boring. Not the V6's though, they own that piece of music, so much so that I literally am waiting for that part of the song to come around.

As good as they are with the regular 1/8 inch jack in an iPhone, I am almost always maxing out the volume on it and sometimes wanting a tad more. Well I just happened to have a 10 year old Sony Stereo Headpiece with a 1/4 headphone jack, (the headphones come with a sweet 1/4 screw on adaptor). May as well try it right? So I dug around my stupidly large box of wires and found a 1/8 jack to red/white RCA plug, and hooked that puppy up!

Mind=BLOWN!

They have the same sound signature as before, but everything is WAY more powerful!
The Bass is the most affected by this change, before I heard it, now I FEEL IT! The drives are literally shaking the cans on my head, I can feel it through the pads. It's like someone giving your ears a handj... Well lets just say it totally awesome. Try putting on Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Track 5: Good King Wencelas. @ 14 seconds, do your headphones explode with sound? Really, Try it! Go to youtube right now and try it. I'll wait for you.

How was it?
Kind of meh? Just Allright?
Then you need to Upgrade!
These Sony MDR-V6's (properly amped) literally try to jump off your head!

Sorry for my rather long winded review, in summary, 4.0/5 plugged into your regular ole 1/8.
6.0/5 with a good amp!
I cannot say enough about how good these are!

Have any of you owned these before? How do they compare to you current headphones?

Just a basic pair of Apple headphones. I like having the volume up/down and pause/play button built in, that's the only reason I use them. They are also way more durable than they look.

Dude I love those headphones, I got a pair of those too for music production. But since I haven't made music in a while, they are great for listening! Despite being flat, the bass and quality is very good for sessions.

Yeah they're great for enjoying music, not just producing. These are actually my first proper cans and also the first ones I've bought myself, no cheap stuff for listening anymore. :D

They're quite nice for non-FPS gaming too, in my opinion (due to the slightly narrow soundstage you have limited surround experience). You can hear all the explosions and sound effects like they are meant to be heard.

Music: Sennheiser HD600 - flat frequency response
GT5: Sennheiser HD595 - slight mid-bass hump accentuates exhaust tone
Mobile: Sennheiser IE8 - amazing headstage for in-ears

I've got other 'phones from Sennheiser, Sony, Denon, Audio Technica and Crossroads but those are the ones I love best.

Oooo! That sounds interesting lol. I'm going to try that for gaming, and the same for me too, these are my first official cans that I ever owned, and I don't regret it 👍

My brother got his iPhone 5 yesterday and gave me the headphones that came with it as he never uses in-ear 'phones. I'm just trying them out now, and goodness me, they're actually really good! I'm no audiophile but even I can tell that these have better bass than my proper headphones. Which, to be fair, are home-made but the drivers are from an old pair of (cheap-ish) Sony studio 'phones which were suffering from a bad case of being run over by an office chair. itis.

These Razer ORCA! On my second pair as the first broke but they were so comfortable I just had to get another set, sound wise they are great but nothing that is going to blow you away, that isnt important for me though, the important bit is that they are more comfortable than any other headphone i've tried and can be worn for hours without getting uncomfortable, they are so soft on your head!

1000w

I also have these Alien Ears - CFR3 Triple driver in-ear monitors.

0000796_cfr3-triple-driver-full-range-detachable-cord-monitor_300.jpeg

Moulded to the shape of my ears, however these are quite the opposite and are not very comfortable, while they have amazing clarity and do their job I struggle to keep them in for more than 30 mins at a time, just long enough to last a set.
