-> Firsts of all, the reason on what makes GT a game is that many people savor for is the balance of gameplay that other games still thrive up to this day. Here are some pointers that I've put up:

  1. Variety of Cars - GT was not the first game that featured a huge variety of cars in the game; there was Touge MAX series (on lower-end/JDM cars) and Test Drive and NFS (on higher end/exotic cars). But the way GT delivered was the real definition of variety that no one ever did before. (thats why my VWL is here)
  2. Vatiety of Tracks - Back in GT1, there was no track that dissapoints us (come on you admit it). Each track from the start was a masterpiece to behold, some even deserves to be a real track (GVR).
  3. Level of Gameplay - From casual single races to full-on race series. The licenses gives the user an option to progress and earn more credits! GT is not a game its a CarPG.
  4. Balance of Physics Integration - GT offers a physics system that is designed for a very wide audience. From kids to (very) experienced adults can join the fun! No arcady "cartoonish" physics or the frustration of a full-on simulator.
  5. Level of Detail - GT4 was the first game that closely replicates the Nordschleife, nuff said.
  6. Quality = Quantity - Only GT can pull this off in a way that won't bother gamers in general. And this will be proven in GT5 when it gets released.
  7. The Passion Involved - No other developer (PD) can be this passionate on cars (yeah, T10 is a close 2nd). From motorsports to a cafe, they try to cater everyone (gamer/fan or not).
  8. Pursuit of Perfection - As proven with the constant development of GT5, KY envision on his endless quest (that bothers most fans) for a "perfect" game. But on every GT game is released, the bar will be set higher for rivals to catch on.

^ These are the reasons on why GT makes a GT. :)

GT Gameplay : its not like any other racing games ! it has a special & unique spirit !!

GT Car List : its not a routine racing game with cars that you have seen in others games. you can drive Motor Carriage 1886 , Nike One 2022 , GT By Citroen , ... besides others cars.

GT Track List : i love them !

GT Mode : i love Forza 3 , but i played only 34% of career mode. GT Mode is a very fun & addictive career mode that i havent seen in any other racing game.

GT License : one of the best parts of GT games !

GT Graphics & Modeling : from lighting to coloring , from smallest details to biggest ! and now we have realistic cockpits that never seen in any other game like this !

GT Rally (WRC) : in my opinion , GT Rally is always the best rally simulator !

GT Menus , Music , ......

What makes GT a GT game is that after a long, painful wait, I still wait.

Haha! Still, at least Turn 10 are perfectionist enough to put skid marks into their games, and with cars sometimes pulling wheelies and taking flight in GT, their games are not 100% bug-free too ;)
Wow skidmarks.

Your right GT5 won't be bug free but I doubt it will contain as many bugs as forza 3.

The damned map :P if there is no map in Gt5 I will pass it!

Wow skidmarks.

Naturaly I was referring to skidmarks in the comedic sense - I really am not bothered, but would be happy to see them in!

After 5 or 6 years of development, I would certainly hope that the game would contain proportionally less bugs than Forza 3, but this constant comparison of the two is ridiculous. Really, what does it matter? Forza 3 is what it is, and regardless of reasons, if you have a 360 you either like the game enough to play it, or you don't. Chances are that GT5 will be the better game in most areas, and that's great. However, you certainly won't see me mocking Forza 3 just to convince myself that I made the right decision. Not saying you are, but lots of people do, like they have a personal stake in the game or something.

Gt5 prologue isn't supposed to be like every other GT game, its supposed to give you a taste of how the game would look on a ps3, How the new menus/hud will look like, etc.... why do you think they did a gt4 prologue, to see the reception from the change of look from gt3 to gt4..

Other than that, I agree with all 3 points

Nope, they made GT prologue to milk the fans, pure and simple (and disgusting business plan)

And i know GT5p is not supposed to be like a full GT game, thats why i doesnt get that bive at all.

For me it's the amount of affordable cars:tup: (little sports car, GTI, hothatches...)

I can't wait to test cars (stock version) and try to choose the next car i'll buy ...
I think GT as reach a point of realism so you can really find (in game) THE car for you in real life (price, performance, way to drive, physics...) That is the point i prefer in GT, and there isn't any other game with this (probably forza 3?).

Well if they just released games to "milk the fans" they would have just released 2 or 3 mediocre full game titles for the PS3.
Prologue is probably a win/win strategy as far as business plans are concerned, we get a nice little game for less money than a full game and bridge the timegap somewhat whilst they get some development money/profit and learn about new aspects like online ability and therefore able to eliminate possible mistakes in the full game.
So not "disgusting" but quite clever if you'd asked me...

That would hurt the franchise, see Need for Speed, so they have released just one mediocre title. For 40 usd the contents of the GT5p are mediocre at best. They could have done a beta like everyone else.

GT5p was sold under the promise of constant updates of contents while the develop GT5, but we only recieved 3 cars (and patches).

Thats milking your fans and personally i dont think i win anything, was a lose/win situation. But anyways, i payed for a second hand version so they didnt see any of my money, i wont support that kind of disgusting business strategies.

Well, the content is limited ( hence the Prologue name, just like GT4 Prologue ) so anyone expecting both a long lasting title constantly updated when their main job was concentrating on the full game is ofcourse destined to be disappointed.
If they constantly updated it with new cars the main surprise effect of GT5 would diminish and take away time and resources from that game which release is already long overdue .

Having said all this, I still play it very often ( mainly due to online which partly compensates the limited car/track content by offering races with real people which are, apart from the loonies and punters, always different ) and I'm still impressed with this little game and never felt like being milked ( and I'm a true cynic at heart to be honest ).

I do get bored by it eventually when playing it for a while now, but it's done its job in providing me tons of fun, taught me the good and bad of online racing and made me totally addicted to interior view.
But I've never felt shortchanged by buying it, and although far from perfect it was worth every penny. ;)

It's a freakin' automobile encyclopedia featuring tons of all sorts of cars, and you get to drive them all!:D
On most legendary circuits and cool invented ones nonetheless!:)
What's not to like???:dopey:💡
-That's the shortest I can do.;)

My friend, you are getting it all wrong about GT5-P! if you think that was a regular game, you are not getting what the supposed pre-conceived idea of what Gran Turismo's philosophy should be...

I am almost tempted to say: you dont deserve to even play any of the GT series for saying such thing...

... and if you say that you dont need to play it... then i can only be glad that you stay away from it.

I think theres 3 things:

1) Stupid amount of cars
2) Upgrades
3) GT mode + Licenses.

GT PSP lacks 2 of these 3 things and doesnt feel like a GT game because of that, also GT5p doesnt feel like a GT game either, i dont get the GT bive from it (is not bad but doesnt feel like a GT game).

see above ;)

PD and Kaz did us a favor by releasing Prologue, they didnt want us to wait for years without anything... they just want to make sure that you dont forget about them, they are just showing the tip of the iceberg, the things that are coming up soon in the full real version, fifth of the series...

GT isn't NFS, thank you very much.

Photomode!

No, seriously, it's the pure unadulterated love of the automobile that shines though in every game. The forms, colors, lines of each one unique and beautiful. The cars take on a personality in Gran Turismo unlike any other game!
Every player's experience is just a little bit different from someone else's. The game becomes a journey that's like your own personal racing history.
Having that first used RX-7 still in my garage, pushing 500 horses, and just as fun to drive as ever, that's what makes Gran Turismo a GT game for me.

-General

GT's always carried a blend of features, and it's how they all meshed together that had me hooked back in GT1.

The realism is an obvious factor; real-life stats for cars were used instead of guesstimates or attempts to level the playing field. Then there was the outlook on which cars should be included; it wasn't the usual top suspects of whatever year's supercar group (oh hey, NFS). If cars were people, I'd say it was taking from "all walks of life". So you didn't load up the game and hop into a car with a giant prancing horse on the hood; you found something that conceivably, could be a real life first car for a low amount of money.

Then, the licenses; I'm not sure GT was the first to incorporate the idea (probably not), but it was the first time I experienced them the way they were set up in GT. It wasn't the shallow walkthrough that most adventure games start with; you felt like you were genuinely learning if, like me at the time, you were too young to get behind the wheel in real life yourself to learn basic car handling. It taught me that I couldn't just floor it through turns at breakneck speeds, to appreciate the brake pedal, and to understand the differences between drivetrains. Essentially, it taught me basic physics, really.

You got the feeling PD really got the idea of the automobile. Not just a car; all the passion behind them, even if it isn't red and Italian. They gave just as much attention to the Miata as the Viper, because they both contribute to the enthusiasts in their own way. They thought up lots of different, unique races each game to entertain; it was a shame that with each game, the AI has been progressively worse, as it's the one aspect of the game that doesn't stand up to the same high standard of simulation as the rest of it. It really is an encyclopaedia of cars, the focus on bringing us realistic physics just makes the lack of challenging AI that much more obvious. If it was all about the car-pr0n, that'd be one thing. Luckily, it's still fun to get behind the wheel, and each sequel brought us one step closer to reality; from no real-life tracks in GT1 to the freakin' Nurb in GT4.

Oh! And tuning! It also wasn't the first game to provide us with that, but it did it on a whole other level than games before. You got more info than "Upgrade 1", which was roughly what the competition offered. You threw on a new muffler, you lightened your car, you made your humble little Demio take out NSX's. Therein lies the other huge appeal; everybody likes an underdog fight. GT makes it possible on so many levels. As for the current march of increased supercars in GT5; well, one thing we love more than underdogs is the escape of living how the other half live.

So uh... overview? It's the scope, the licenses, the encyclopedic lineup of cars, the focus on realism, the desire in everybody to see the underdog win, the desire to escape from reality, and the love of the automobile. There's the feeling that there's always, ALWAYS something to do. It's all tied together, so while there's still room for improvement, it still offers a more comprehensive package than other racing games, for me at least. My only two complaints are always the same; better AI, and better time management from the PD team. With the promise of online racing, at least one of those is kinda, sorta solved ;).

If they priced Prologue the way Microsoft priced Forza DLC, it would have cost more than $90.

Anyway, I'll see about my post tomorrow. It's way past my beddie bye.

What makes Gran Turismo a Gran Turismo game? Because it's in a different league to everything else, and always will be. Best graphics, most true-to-life physics, and the most enduring career mode.

The atmosphere is unique, music fits like a charm (J-Jazz + Some Fusion school here) and all CARS are what makes this a GT game.

This is *the* game to drive a human car (that any of us can afford), instead of only offering us über-expensive autos.

I trust no other game to rip Nurburgring apart with the screaming sound of a Volkswagen or an army of Volvo GLT 240s.

For me the Gran Turismo series is about a few things actually.

1 - GT Mode. Not one car game has captured the essence of what this is. It's not about the quickest and fastest cars in the game. It's about the daily drivers. Back when GT4 was current, it was taking the virtual Taurus through it's paces in GT, while I drove one in real life. No game has come close to matching that feeling.

2 - The tracks. The tracks in Gran Turismo have always felt right. Even the ones created by PD shame the other creations done by other studios. When it comes to real tracks, no console game has come close to matching the authenticity of the courses in the manner PD has.

3 - The tuning. Sure, other games have used a system similar to what PD created, but they all fall short in one area or another. Even without the body modding and livery systems, I still prefer the tuning systems found in GT4. PD understands the balance of a vehicle. It's not just tires, engine, or aerodynamics that defines a car. It's the sum of all parts. PD has masterfully re-created this aspect.

4 - The physics. PD has always been the leading edge of physics when it comes to driving. Sure, some of the other aspects such as damage have been wrong, but to me, the driving has always been spot on. Plus, driving is what GT is all about. Not the crashes. Not the paint jobs. It's all about the car on track symbiosis.

I know that all of the above will be taken to another level once GT5 is released. I can't wait!!

For me it is the unique handling and feeling of weight/suspension/power for each car and of course the force feedback for my wheel

and

the graphics, beautiful but simple, picture perfect; and no (flashy - unreal)gimmicks.

And after GT5p and the GT5 time trial; whatever shortfalls GT5 may have; it will be the best racing game (for me) ever! :dopey:

In this game there is that that personal for me. Without Gran Turismo simply it is impossible to live.

For me it's the massive amount of content. All cars and tracks painstakingly hand-modeled, the love and care put into all of it almost oozes out when you're playing it.

The presentation is still unrivaled, GT4's menu is one of my favourite menus ever. Who would've thought fusion jazz goes so well with racing. :D

I was going to say "no reverse lights", but someone beat me to it!

I stand corrected, honestly i always thought that the only update of contents (in terms of tracks and cars) was the Spec 3 with the 3 last cars because when i got my Ps3 and the game it got updated right away so i was under the idea that the game come with about 60 cars out of the box.

Still is not much updates and the base was just more miserable but atleast means that Poliphony keep their promise about the updating the think atleast for a bit.

After delivering 400+ cars, 100 tracks and huge complete game, plus in every game the DLC are proportionally more expensive that the contents already in the game and believe me that GT5 is going to be the SAME thing.

In the case of GT5p is not even the 10% of GT5 contents sold at 66% of the full price, horrible deal.

Actually closer to 40%

Here GT5p was £20, RRP of a new full retail game is often £49.95

It is made by funny and crazy guy who smokes his mentols like there is no tommorow and walks around in shoes with high soils.

But when it comes to creating a car-gaming masterpiece, there is no living among Humans who can even come close to perfection he delivers in way others can just imagine.

Other games maybe have something that Gran Turismo does not, but no other game have what Gran Turismo has. And that list is a long one.

What a brilliant way of describing Kaz and the GT franchise.:)

You know I feel sorry for other developers trying to compete against Gran Turismo because they simply don't stand a chance. The difference for me isn't just how clever PD are but the passion Kaz has for cars is clearly shown in the GT games. Recently a friend of mine said "no wonder GT is never coming out because Kaz is always away racing". My reply was the experience Kaz recieves from racing goes towards making GT a better game.

I also believe where PD come from i.e Japan is what makes GT stand out from the rest of the crowd. I've found that people from Japan aren't just incredibly clever but they are also workaholics. This is probably down to their culture and education system. Im sure I read once that when Kaz was developing GT1 he didn't spend hardly anytime at home and spent much of his time in the PD offices.

The only developer who I equally admire is Infinity ward and ironically the developer Kaz admires the most also happens to be IW.
