Watched two movies this weekend.

The Expendables.

If you like action, an incoherent plot, action, more action stars than you can shake a stick at, and action, then the Expendables is the movie for you! I did enjoy, but I am a guy, so go figure. The plot wasn't very noticable, but that's not why you would see this movie. You see this movie for the constant blaring in your face action. I did notice that alot of the action stars that recieved prominant billing didn't really have big roles. Some just had glorified walk on roles. And as much as I like a good action movie, I do like a plot to go with it.
6/10

I had to turn it off 30 min in.

Okay... old news, but I finally watched TRON:Legacy.

Impressions: 👍 :) :( :indiff: ...errh... :)?

I mean, the first TRON was not exactly groundbreaking epic storytelling... it was more of a B-Movie plot dressed up in what was arguably some of the best computer animation of the time (which still looks good today). TRON:Legacy is more of the same.

The acting was decent, there were interesting points along the way... but for a movie with so few characters and subplots, it felt like nothing was ever explained in depth and none of the ideas were fully fleshed out.

I wasn't expecting ground-breaking cinema... but you'd hope such a well-designed, high-budget movie would have some meat on them bones. What a waste of potential!

And Disney's 3D... what little there was of it... didn't really hold a candle to Avatar. Simply not convinced.

A 6/10. Still watchable, but that's about it.

I recently watched the Green Hornet

One word can explain the movie for me,

AWESOME!

If you heard bad things about the movie from other people, just like my friend from another friend. DONT listen, see it yourself.

Seth Rogen was suprisingly good in that movie. The comedy and the action was in a perfect ratio. Bloody awesome movie!

10/10

My only regret, I want more of it!

Red Dawn (John Milius, 1984)
You might ant to check out the upcoming video game Homefront. It takes place in a not so distant future when Korea invades the US. The storyline sound very much like a 21st century Red Dawn.

Crazy Heart (Scott Cooper, 2009) --
...the movie itself is no big deal, though it can get sentimental and significative enough at times, it is Jeff Bridges who makes the movie work and the sole reason really to watch it.

I completely agree with your view of the movie. 👍

I also watched:

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - 6/10

Although it is different/fresh/whatever in many ways, it tries too much to be cool... I'm sure many will love it and identify themselves with, but it just wasn't for me.

Broken Embraces (Los Abrazos Rotos) - 8/10

If you enjoy Pedro Almodóvar, you know what to expect from this. It isn't his best, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Reading from Wiki..

The game is written by John Milius, who co-wrote Apocalypse Now and wrote Red Dawn.

Scot Pilgrim was just a movie about Iconic things.
Sexbomb-omb has a small reference to Mario, the announcer saying "K-O!" is another reference Capcom's VS series
. Though I have only found those references and probably Ramona vs. Roxy refering to Soul Calibur's Astaroth vs Ivy or Rock vs Ivy.

Don't get me wrong: I got the movie, I just didn't enjoyed it.

Saw Scott Pilgrim a little while back. Visually, it was a blast to watch. But a bunch of videogame references alone does not make a movie good. I found the characters to be a bit dull. Even the fight sequences weren't very fun to watch besides the pretty graphics.

Don't get me wrong, I did moderately enjoy it. I'd never watch it again though. It was a big ball of fluff with very little substance besides some pretty effects, decent music, and mildly amusing game references.

And this is why it didn't do so well. It was a niche audience kind of thing. Fans of the comics thought it was great, and everyone else was kind off turned off by it.

Last movie I saw cinemas was:

The Fighter:

IMDb

I must say, was an amazing watch, highly recommended 9/10. Performances from the cast all round was really good, Christian Bale in particular whose performance was Oscar worthy.

127 Hours
One thing I find with Danny Boyle films is they typically don't have a very good story, but he tells it very well. This is exactly the same formula. A guy trapped, faced with solitude and death and what happened to him. Not exactly Inception but his directing techniques making it very watchable and involving. Oh and I'm quite squeamish and yes it made me look away and slightly sick. 7/10

Bronson
I like my Brit films, what they lack in budget and glitz they make up for in grit and style. Tom Hardy was very convincing as a sociopath and basically saved the film. The story isn't that interesting, and to be honest it dragged. 5/10

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
I found Get Him To The Greek very funny and really liked Jason Segel in Undeclared. This wasn't up to that level. Couple of laugh out loud moments but mostly meh 5/10

Skyline
Bad. Like if 2012 and a JJ Abrahms film had a baby and let Alexander babysit it bad. 0/10

The Social Network
Take a fairly mundane story with a remarkable outcome and mix in just enough fiction to make it entertaining. 7/10

Up In The Air
I watched this because I'm a Danny McBride fan but he's fairly unremarkable in it. The film though was pleasantly surprising. Kind of like The Terminal crossed with Thank You For Smoking. 7/10

Pineapple Express
An oldie I know but I watched it again recently for like the 5th or 6th time and it still makes me laugh the whole way through. 9/10

You seem to be everywhere

Ontopic:

Village of the Giants - 1965

Village of the Giants takes place in fictional Hainesville, California. After crashing their car into a roadblock during a rainstorm, a group of partying, big-city teenagers (Fred, Pete, Rick, Harry, and their girlfriends Merrie, Elsa, Georgette and Jean) first indulge in a vigorous, playful mud-wrestling fight, then hike their way into town. Fred remembers meeting a girl from Hainesville named Nancy, and they decide to look her up.

Well, just watch it and u will be amazed :D.

Creativity - 8/10

Overall - 3.5/10

Harold and Maude (Hal Ashby, 1971) -- As far as weird, odd and insane movies go, this one's pretty much up there with the best. Harold is a wealthy and needy teenager who's favorite passtime is committing suicide. He has no friends and is pretty asocial, until he meets Maude, an anarchist 79-year-old woman at a funeral, sparks fly and they become friends and eventually, lovers. It's not an easy movie to watch, but it's very entertaining and funny, in a dark and sinister way and definitely one of the best RomComs of all time, since the story is told very realistically, making the story unfold gracefully and the twist ending is both poignant and reassuring. 8/10

And this is why it didn't do so well. It was a niche audience kind of thing. Fans of the comics thought it was great, and everyone else was kind off turned off by it.

And even then... people who would like the comics wouldn't be pulled in because of the movie. They took lots of shortcuts, didn't explain a lot of things, changed others so they wouldn't have to, then picked an actor who was the exact opposite of the lead character.

I thought I would be happy with it... but I wasn't entirely satisfied. It was the kind of movie I should have loved, but in between flashes of brilliance were parts that didn't quite work.

Mmmmm I didn't know about that, but then again I don't watch a lot of movies. :)
Movies like this are thriving now that stuff like Netflix streaming is out. People can watch these horrible little B-movies for a laugh without feeling like they just blew $3-$5 on a rental. I would have never gone through the effort of getting and paying for a DVD rental to see Megashark Vs. Giant Octopus, but when it is just the click of a button away I will definitely watch it.

Can never have enough Quorra.

That's part of the problem.

For a character that has so much on-screen time, I learned so little about her. I don't know what her favorite color is... what her favorite weapon is... whether she cuts her apple before she eats it or just nibbles around the core till its gone. It's like speed-dating a girl and getting to ask her three questions before the end of the credits.

What do we know about her? 1. She's an ISO. 2. She's read a lot (no quotes from favorite books or mention of favorites) 3. She was saved by Flynn. 3. She used to work with Zeus. 4. She likes Flynn Jr. 5. She heals fast.

That's it.

I was laughing at the Asian Sailor said "GOTCHA!" out of no where....hahaha

Saw Black Swan yesterday. It has Natalie Portman starring, so I don't have to discuss Quorra this time :sly:

Very very entertaining film. Kept me glued the entire way through and there are parts that you couldn't quite tell were real or not. There's a particular scene involving Natalie's character Nina and herself which dudes should be rather fond of :sly:

Hizzle Yizzle!! 👍

Watched it myself the other night. It dragged a little and I did find myself pausing it to take a break every now and then but it's a decent film. I preferred The Wrestler though.

She uses that grid samurai katana thingy twice :p

Plenty of holes in the film but Disney needs to make a profit and I didn't mind. I was mainly drawn in by the futuristic concepts and art they had in it (nice to find out lately that they contracted the author of the cosmic motors book for the designs in the movie http://cosmic-motors.blogspot.com/)

I figured Quorra as a character was a bit like Leeloo from 'The Fifth Element' if that adds anything to my post?

I just finished watching "Mr Nice".
I read the book a couple of months ago and was somewhat disappointed with the film.
Don't get me wrong, it was good, but after having read the book I just feel they could have done so much more, so much better.
Solid 7/10

Repo Man (Alex Cox, 1984) -- A young Emilio estevez plays Otto, a punk kid who gets a job as a repo man, as he does so, he finds himself entangled in a web of intrigue concerning a huge repossession bounty on a 1964 Chevy Malabu driven by a lunatic government scientist, with Top Secret cargo in the trunk, which takes the movie straight into WTF-land that becomes a mix between Men in Black and Buckaroo Banzai that never stops to try and make sense, but just jumps from one pointless moment to the next, making it a punk rock, science fiction b-movie comedy of the highest order. It is original, funny and weird, but at no time is it good and that's probably the main reason why it became one of the key cult movies from the 80s. It also features a soundtrack with the likes of punk rock icons Iggy Pop, The Ramones and The Circle Jerks. 5/10

Leeloo was a bit more involving as a character... had a lot of those little moments I thought they could work in for Quorra that they simply didn't. Hope there's a sequel... one with a tighter script... because there's a lot they left laying on the floor.
