I just watched Superman yesterday and had a good time. Not making it an origin story (again) is a good decision because we hit the ground running, and the action is almost non-stop. To me it felt very much aligned with the animated Superman movies/series, and the acting all around works, with Nicholas Hoult standing out as Luthor. That being said, it doesn't bring anything really new, thematically or visually, but I think it's a solid foundation for the new DC universe, we'll see. 8/10.

Watched a handful of movies last night/this morning. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Big Parade, They Made Me a Fugitive, and The Fugitive (1947). I haven't been keeping my Letterboxd up to date, but who needs Letterboxd when you can do this instead:

EDIT: 5 more - Man on the Brink, The Golem, Good Time, Way Down East, and Elevator to the Gallows.

Yesterday I watched the Fantastic Four: First Steps and it was just as fun as Superman, and now I can say that The Incredibles is not the best Fantastic Four movie out there (close second though).

The F1 movie was pretty entertaining. "Top Gun with cars" sounds about right.

Camera work is top notch. They capture the intensity of what a driver is going through on track really well. Brad Pitt sells it really well when he is constantly shifting focus between track marks and cars surrounding him.

The opening scene at Daytona might be my favorite race footage of the movie but the F1 race scenes are nice too.

Some dumb and unrealistic stuff is to be expected but it wasn't too bad. Insane speed differentials at the start overtaking 5 cars before the first corner was quite funny.

All the shenanigans of Pitt's character and the team was kind of over the top. But I can tolerate it for the sake of it being an action movie.

My friend who is not into cars and racing at all thoroughly enjoyed it. He also liked how they explain a lot to people like him which added to his enjoyment.

Overall definitely a movie for a casual fun movie night. But also some great footage for racing enthusiasts.

Watched The Revenant tonight and really enjoyed it. The cinematography is just stunning and it is one of the most beautifully shot (modern) movies I have ever seen. The acting was great as well, especially from Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. Fantastic movie!
