Yes, XP is an excellent OS. The advantages are too numerous to list here, but I found this page which does an excellent job outlining some of the major points.Originally posted by milefile
Is XP better? Why or why not?

All that link does is say whats better about XP to NT, it doesnt say anything about win 98. I use win 98 and im happy with it. I think im just staying with 98. XP also requires a damn lot of ram, for what? You need 128mb at least to run xp, and even if you have it, all your other programs run slow. Trust me, my mom has a 1.5ghz 128mb ram computer with XP, and that sucker runs way slower than mine (1ghz, 128mb). Unless you can afford 50$ on the size for more ram while your buying XP, i dont reccommend getting it. Windows 98 will serve you well if you treat it well.
Remember, 95% of all problems are caused by the user, not the OS/Computer.

Me? Windows 98 2nd Edition. No big problems. I see no need to change until I get a new computer, which I also see no need to replace just yet.
OK, take a look at this page for specific comparisons between XP and 98SE. As for your mom's PC, don't expect an OS with all of XP's effects and features to run better on a faster processor if you are still starving it of enough RAM. Don't believe Microsoft's minimum requirements, especially when dealing with one of the most critical components (like RAM), if you want a perfect system.Originally posted by gt2_gs
