What should be my first car, based off of my wants/needs?

Buy an 2004 up Volvo S40. I think you can get an low mileage one for pretty cheap.

Not a guzzler?

I suppose if you consider 10 mpg in traffic "not guzzling"... The Evo's composite score on Fuelly isn't any better than the Mustang's or the Corvette's.

-

The 3000GT is a terribly underappreciated car. Which means that it's terribly hard to find someone who knows how to fix it or carries parts.

-

The Focus looks decent. Mileage is fairly high, but the price reflects it.

Then just get the basic Mitsu Lancer, not an evo one. Like I said, if it bothers some of you, then it won't matter. This is just a statement for the TS and you're not the TS so what's the point?

For that statement, I'll ask you this.

What if that model of the Focus has some recalls like some other Fords do?

Just asking because it looks like that you like Fords. :D

Murcie_LP640
That's opening up a can of worms and a half mate ;)

Especially because as niky said, "not a guzzler" is almost completely false and "not as sporty as a coupe" could bring in some arguing too considering that insurance companies CLASSIFY it as a sports car. And it runs rings around quite a few coupes 1.5-2x the price.

I'm not even going to bother with the Subaru bit :sly:

Again, this is JUST a freaking statement to the TS so what's the point if you're not the TS?

Honestly, you guys are definitely trying to make me laugh for looking like you got bothered with that statement. xD

Really? A triple post?

That's who the typical owners in Southeast Michigan are.

Oh, the people that own them here are pretty good. All the drug dealers are at school anyways and they can't afford insurance on a Mustang. :D

Ya, those are the typical owners, as joey said.... Drug dealers like to own and ruin mustangs and camaros :(

Could you not find a good one that hasn't been ruined? Or are you just not wanting to be mistaken for a drug dealer?

Sorry, can't use QUOTE function properly with my mobile phone. Let it be right now. Don't be bothered with it.

And why do you get to dictate who and how people respond to you? The topic starter is asking for a cheap, sporty-ish car for 2000-4000 and you suggested one that would cost around 15000-20000.

Wew why are you that mad?

It wasn't my fault that I didn't know he was looking for a cheap one that would cost 2000-4000. I thought he was a looking for a new one. Did it bother you too much that you have to act like that?

That's interesting, because he said it right here in the OP you keep referring to:

the only problem I have with this is price. I estimate my range is $2000-$4000, but most of these are $6000 right now.

This thread has already been dragged off topic enough times without people bringing up cars that start at around 4 times more than he can afford and then defending them on merits they don't actually have.

Then be mad like you're the one who will afford a car in the 1st place, then I don't care. I wasn't even minding your previous posts, honestly. If that's the range that he can afford, then I can make suggestions in this thread. Don't be mad if I make some because like I said, you're not the one who'll be buying whatever the car will be.

That's not our problem.

I think you're the one who should be bothered with it.

In future, so not double and triple post. Use the edit button or the multi-quote feature. Thanks.

how to multi quote using the app.

Yeah. Sorry bout that.

@MiuraSV777

The Nissan 240SX is a good car for you. I saw one on net. It's just a little higher at 5k.

Here's the link: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=140955650710&index=0&nav=SEARCH&nid=95479873198

A cheaper one is also great at 3k:

Whatever you want, I'm just wishing that you will be owning a japanese one.

JDM is the way to go for you and should always be! :D

Aren't 240s still overpriced because of the "dorifto" craze? Second car looks pretty rough, but on the bright side... stock engine. Which hopefully means the owner hasn't destroyed it yet.

The Cedia-based Lancer that the Evo IX is based on drives like a dog. It has a poor selection of engines, inert handling and horrible steering. And don't even ask about the laughable "INVECSII" automatics. I once drove a 200 hp 2.0 V6 Lancer with that tranny and I swear it was slower than a 1.6.

If you really needed a Japanese compact sedan of the same vintage, a Nissan Sentra SE or SE-R or a Mazda Protege of the same year are much, much better cars, and much sportier.

The Lancer that accompanied the Evo X is a much better car. American reviewers seem to hate it, but it drives pretty well. Unfortunately out of the price range.

My car carries a Ford badge but is actually a Mazda. I like the older Ford Focii, but I couldn't really give a hoot about anything else they produce, actually.

The ZX3 isn't actually that bad a car. The earlier ones like that model had a bunch of recalls, but a recall typically means whatever problem there was was fixed. It'll be much less of a headache for a first time owner than something like a rattle-trap old Mustang.

Of course, the threadstarter should really just break down and buy a Civic... :p

Ya, I cant really seem to find a 240 under $6000-7000

the sentra and protege seem to be very good cars, so ill have to look into them

Sentras with the SR tend to be very robust and reliable. The earlier QR-equipped cars were reputed to be fragile. 03s tended to eat catalytic converters, which then caused the engines to eat themselves. Before the B15 run ended, though, the QR25 was much more reliable, but those models may be out of the price range.

The Protege is a fine car. Some issues with rubber bushings, and third gear can let go if the previous owner caned it... but that's something that can happen with any front-driver with a stick.

Wew why are you that mad?

Oh Lordy. Here I was thinking this was a car forum and all of a sudden we've been transported into a game of Call of Duty.

Will also +1 the Protege, assuming we're talking about the BJ generation. Not exactly promising figures if all you care about is a fact sheet but they're great little things to drive.

K. It's just I saw Fords before that's got some recalls, especially the V8 ones so I was thinking if that car has some of it so yeah.

Just like what I said to him, his 1st car should be a JDM, whatever his car will be. I can accept your statement about the Evo right now but I don't wanna hear something like that again because it's not nice.

@MiuraSV777

Actually there are some 240SX you can find cheaper. However, it's not common and is old but whatever it will be, your choice should be JDM when looking for a first car.

@ Murcie_LP640

You know, if that's the case, then you might have lost the battle and die that war, homie.

When someone's mad like that, they're just like girls but I don't know if you get what I mean. They shouldn't just talk 1 week until they're finish with their problems.

I've always been partial to the B13, and honestly feel it is one of the best OEM options in that category. The SR gives enough torque compared to the Honda and Toyota offerings, while still being rev friendly.

Not to mention the LSD option and completely under the radar nature of the things.

Honestly, just stop. Put down the shovel and just stop, if you get what I mean.

What's not nice about the truth?

The truth is, the Evo is a very capable, very, very fast car. It's also fantastic to drive and arguably a sharper tool than the WRX STI (The STI is fun, but the EVO has always been pin sharp in comparison).

The truth is, also, it guzzles gas like there's no tomorrow, and is no better than a V8 in real world economy. It has a heavy clutch, a terrible ride and is very noisy. It's also very expensive to insure and very expensive to buy.

If you're extremely sensitive about hearing such things, you can simply just take your own advice and step away from the discussion.

No, it's not that. It's just like you're saying that it's not a nice car so that's why I'm sensitive to it. If that's the truth, then why say earlier that I consider a 10mpg NOT a guzzler, which looks like you're picking on me about something that I didn't know. Even if you're a mod, I don't really understand why do you have to act like that as if you know and own everything in this site. Lol no offense, but it looks like I'm giving you a reality check right now.

So I just remembered that the Infiniti G20 existed, and they seem like good little cars. Tidy proportions, somewhat luxurious, reliable, somewhat sporty, and not bad looking. A five speed stick came standard and a four speed auto was optional. Should be somewhat fun to drive, and it should be pretty comfortable, and almost certainly reliable.

Watcha trying to say again, homie? *raises eyebrows*

You sound like an idiot, homie.

God, what did I do again..

Can't you just leave me alone or something? I'm not even trying to bother you, so what's the point on saying that??

This is the part of GTPlanet where we talk about real cars. The threadstarter is asking for real-world advice about buying a car.

As such, we have to ensure that the threadstarter does not receive false information.

How about a 4th generation corvette they look nice and have V8's they cost around 4000-8000 so might be a little out of your price range.

Let's get a three hundred horsepower rear wheel drive sports car in a snowy climate! Insurance won't be killer.

Ya, i agree that 1. It would do horrible in the winter and 2. Insurance would probably be more than the car's worth in a year
