ok, so i bought me a 1993 240sx coupe se with a 5 speed transmission. and im wondering what i should do to it first its got a rebuilt ka24de so im asking the people what to do.

Before you go in search of more power etc etc make sure what you already have is up to scratch first! For example, change every rubber bushing, suspension, steering etc for new, preferably uprated Polyurethane ones.

Yeah, too many kids let their hopes and dreams take priority over what actually needs to be done.

Check your oil, sparkplugs, tires, coolant. Give it a good tune up. Remember, the guy you bought it from sold it for a reason.

Some good advise there. Keep it tidy and working well and stay away from cheap, crappy mods, like those horrible exhaust tips that bolt on to your factory exhaust..

I'd rather see a tidy stock car or close to stock with good quality mods than a car littered with crappy parts

^ This 100%.

A clean running stock 240SX is more than enough fun to go around. I know, I had one! My '89 coupe 5spd was a riot! The only real mods that you could do that would be beneficial without making you look like a 'tard is intake and an ECU tune. The stock KA24 takes these two mods very well and with the tune it significantly improves overall drivability. Don't go all riced out and certainly do not go the generic and boring SR or RB route. Played out to death in the 90's and 00's. If you ever do decide on an engine swap the VG30DETT is calling you.

I'd say an LSD would be one of the next very beneficial mods.

But scary expensive and impossibly hard to install/program. First couple mods (after the aforementioned quality sweep) should be suspension and chassis. Maybe some new springs, sway bars, coil-overs, etc.

I'm assuming you want to take this racing/autocrossing, right? If you're just going for straight-line speed, fat rear tires and a giant turbo should suffice :sly:

You program an LSD?

Since when?

Program? Or adjust? If adjustment is the issue... that's kind of the problem with a clutch-type... but if there's a helical for the 240SX (better yet... an OEM helical LSD), I'd go for that... install and forget. No need to adjust. No need for extra maintenance. And it'll never wear out... not unless you're making enough torque to rip it to shreds.

OEM helical LSDs aren't quite as good for drifting as aftermarket clutch LSDs, but they're more than enough for the weekend warrior.

I stand corrected. I was under the impression that you had to connect an aftermarket LSD to your ECU, but after doing some research, looks you can just plug and play. It's still expensive, though. (At least from my checkbook's perspective) $500 is a lot to drop on a '93 240SX.

$500 is almost nothing when it comes to mods... And it's an absolute steal when you're talking LSDs... Quaifes can go for nearly $2k... And mine, already very cheap, cost $600...

Any LSD under a grand is a good deal. And if you honestly think $500 is a lot to spend on a car, you've never had a car for more than a couple of years. That is just a set of crap tires, etc.

Fix it up and get it running and looking great, then start on other things if you want. The satisfaction you get from having a nice looking ride that still runs like the day it was made will multiply how you feel when you finally start doing modifications.

What to do first?

1. Inspect the car for rust...fix it.
2. Shampoo the seats as there will be over 17yrs worth of someone else's farts buried in them
3. Clean the carpet with seats out. 17yrs worth of spilled whatever and who knows what else is hiding in the cracks & crevices.
4. Inspect the car mechanically; leaking shocks, rear main seal, valve cover, rotting hoses, old brake fluid, the works...fix that stuff.
5. Change the timing belt. If the previous owner said they did but never showed proof of install; they lied.

I'd be stoked to get an LSD for $500, I think to get something like a Cusco one for mine, just the centre is around $1300 then you have to get your diff stripped and reassembled.

It's so easy to get carried away on mods and repairs, my car isn't finished yet in terms of what I want to do with it and I've already tripled what I bought it for...

I'm so glad there's a stock Tochigi Fuji differential for my car... Imagine that... a 2-liter econobox that's never made more than 170 hp... (and turbocharged to do that, to boot)... and there's a performance differential for it! Costs under $600 actually... but the shop I bought from welds the differential housing for extra strength... $600 flat... not a bad buy.

Nissan. Chain-drive. But it's a good idea to listen for sounds from the chain... the chain tensioners sometimes get a little out of whack after a lot of miles.

Owning the same year and model myself, I can only agree with what most here have already said. Most importantly spend money on replacing ALL those old ass bushing rubber with high-end polys, remove and fix any rust you may have, upgrade the brakes and replace lines and make sure the motor is running smooth. That's enough to keep you busy for several months...
Once you have gotten to that point you have a car worth increasing power and performance with. The car is great fun just the way it is, but is super fun when properly built up.

Oil change to regain that horsepower, and chassis refresh if you want and a engine rebuild if it needs it.

Maybe buy some super softs if you want to cheat the AI.👍
