Gran Turismo is a simulation racing game. Think of it like this: Madden is the NFL Simulation, GT is the Racing Simulation. You don't see anything in Madden that shouldn't be there, like blood, helmets with spikes, naked cheerleaders, vampires, etc. That would be a different kind of game.
Likewise, don't expect to see the following in GT4, for it doesn't fit the genre:
-Nitrous Oxide
-Neon Kits
-Body kits (they may bring back the race package, though.)
-Hydraulics
-Trucks & SUVs
And here is why:
-Nitrous Oxide: Not only is this a cheap alternative to real horsepower (sure it produces HP and alot of torque, but it's not permanent, besides it's bad on engines.), but it's not involved in any kind of racing. GT, SCCA, COMMA, IHRA and NHRA do NOT allow the use of nitrous, though I'm not 100% sure on the HRA leagues. As a replacement for cheap HP, that IS permanent, they do allow for forced induction (Turbo and blowers.), which is prevalent in the Gran Turismo series. Don't count on ever seeing Nitrous in any of the GT games, unless some real racing series start to support it.
-Neon Kits. Come on kids, this is a racing game, now a show room.
-Body Kits. See above, though they might bring back the racing package w/ includes an aero-kit which allows you to adjust downforce. Don't count on being able to purchase "Super Venom Street Fighter Hibatachi Yogami Bodykits". Personally I always liked the racing kits included in GT1.
-Hydraulics. This isn't a pimpin' low rider or a show room game. Racing kids - remember, this is about racing.
-Trucks and SUVs. First of all SUVs are the most untrackworthy automobiles made. Some of them might be decently fast, but they're not sports cars, nor do they do good on a track. I don't care how "bling bling, look at my 20's" cool they are, they suck on the track. Trucks are pretty much the same. Lightnings are decent, as are some other smaller trucks, but they don't do well on road courses. This is a racing game - keep that in mind and don't hold your breath.
Some argue the point of NASCAR cars. They do compete in some good road course races, and they are REAL racecars. Now, wether or not I feel they belong is pointless. They do meet the criteria of a "race car". They're fast, loud and, when tuned properly, can cut a corner as well as any other. F1 cars were in GT3 becuase they represent the best of the best in circuit racing. They are the fastest automobiles in the world. Including an F1 car and not NASCAR may seem unfair, and in a way it is, just remember that F1 cars represent the utmost in circuit racing. On the other hand NASCARs, at best, on a road course, are no where near as potent as some of the lesser tuned JGTC cars.
