What to expect from a DFGT

So I purchased a Logitech DFGT racing wheel on Amazon for $100USD flat with $3 shipping. It should be arriving on the 11th and I am scared because idk if I got something worth my money, Y'know?

I mean, its a budget wheel.. flimsy pedals, no clutch, not even a proper shifter and tons of fight to it on the straights?

Can someone shed a little light on my situation Please? A little optimism. Make me not regret buying it Lol :I

Well, it's a very good wheel for the money... If it's your first wheel, you'll very likely be happy about owning it, even if there's no clutch. I was :).

The DFGT is fun and makes the game so much better. You will enjoy it for sure.

I still use and love my DFGT. Great wheel for price range. :D

I personally will get my first wheel soon (G27:D), but a friend of mine has his DFGT for I think a year now and he is super happy with it... He says, that it is an excellent feeling and he will not EVER go back to DS3... I think you will be happy with it... everything has pros and cons:)

I am a very happy owner of a DFGT! I use it a lot.

I do have a clutch pedal though, for use with my TH8RS shifter: I'm using the throttle pedal of a second, very cheap second hand wheel next to the pedals of the DFGT. I only kept the pedal stand + throttle pedal and USB controller board - trew away all the rest.

I do recommend the foam golf ball mod: very simple mod, but it gives the brake pedal a more progressive feeling and the pedal is less light.

That wheel is a bang for the buck and IMO, you can't get a better wheel that's cheaper than that. You can even do many things with that wheel, like use it to play any game, mod it and drive with it in racing games for fun and so on.

It REALLY ruins the game. The FFB just makes steering harder, and the 10 inch rim is too far apart if you are wering hadncuffs. Having a shifter knob makes you have to take your hands off the wheel. It even has pedals so you need to use your feet too. It's made of plastic that probably gives you cancer if you touch it without gloves, and the cool light up horn button on top of every other possible button being on the thing is strictly unnecessary. Worst of all. it's compatible with pretty much EVERY PC and PS3 racing game, so it ruins all of them too. Stay clear. =P

lol.

Because of it's Force Feedback it really takes racing to a next level! If you're used to a controller you will first hate it for but after a few days you will certainly love it.
It has quite good feedback and really makes drifting easier.
You won't get the best FF deadzone or the fastest motors and it is quite noisy but it really is very usefull. Don't expect the best materials, the materials are quite decent though. The paddles are quite small and the sequential shifter works but it's quite a toy.
The pedals are quite precise but not heavy enough.

Conclusion: Nice steering wheel to start with for a nice price for the features. Good GT5 integration. You will probably quite like it. ;)

I've had my wheel for three or four years and apart from the missing clutch I don't see a reason for changing.

I mean, there are better wheels. But the DFGT does everything it needs to do and it does it pretty good.

If you are fast using a controller then you may be slower with a ffb wheel at first. No ffb wheel feels like a real wheel so it does take a little getting use to. Once you get use to a ffb wheel you won't go back to a controller.

When I got my first wheel (a DFGT), I couldn't even drive in a straight line:sick:.
But one you get used to it, it's much more fun, and you get a lot more precision.:dopey:

Thankyou so much guys. I can't wait to judge it for myself when it finally does arrive.. I've spent this day looking up mods and accessories to compensate for the cons and judging by the level of satisfaction I seem to have the green light to actually trying to make these mods happen :)

The suspense! Its killing me!

Don't fear, it's great wheel for starters. You can use it for like a year to learn how to play with wheel in different racing / rally games. GT, F1, WRC

When you feel it's not enough anymore then you will swap it go G27 👍 , best wheel on the market.

Oh, if your gunna take it apart, make sure you know how to put it back together!👍

Go to walmart and buy a pack of yellow foam golf balls. Cut one in half and stick it in the hole of the brake pedal as far as you can. Thank me later.

I thought the best on the market was CSR from Fanatec?

That's mostly opinion.
G27 is a great wheel: it's precise, direct and is very quiet for a gear driven wheel.
G27 owners swear with the G27. The G27 also seems to have a great built quality and logitech has a good customer service. It isn't that expensive though.

Fanatec also makes good racing wheels but they are more expensive and the built quality of the ff motors isn't very good. Fanatec is also known for its bad customer service.
The CSR is silent because of its belt driven system. Many people love it. Some claim that because of that system system, it isn't as direct and natural as a G27.
I have a slight dislike for Fanatec.

Than you have the Thrustmaster T500RS. They say it is a great wheel. It certainly has nice features. I don't know customer service or built quality but it seems to have a very strong FF. It is quite expensive and Thrustmaster isn't my brand. I had some bad experience with cheaper Thrustmaster products.

So a step up from the DFGT would be a G27. What happens when I want to take yet another step?

Yes the G27 is certainly a more refined wheel than the DFGT. Everything is better. You just see the price difference. It's quieter, it uses awesome materials and the it's a dual motor FF system so you have a smaller deadzone and it seems to be faster.

I don't understand your last sentence. I'm sorry, English isn't my native language. ;)

From the DFGT you can step up to Fanatec CSR/Porsche wheels or G27, they are similar price and have slightly different compromises. After that you currently have the T500RS as the "next" step or Fanatec's Clubsport stuff as a more expensive alternative (again with different compromises). After that you head towards exotic multi-thousand-€ stuff like ECCI or Frex.

But be aware that Logitech seems to be stopping wheel production (no new wheels for years), Thrustmaster and MadCatz have announced G27 or better quality wheels to be released for Xbox One (maybe also with PS3/PC compatibility, we don't know yet), and Fanatec is busy with a new generation of wheels and perhaps adding Xbox One compatibility somehow... So by early 2014 we all expect the wheel landscape to change considerably.

Similarly to wheels are mounting systems: You can clamp wheels to desks, purchase a wheel stand, upgrade to a full cockpit and eventually to a complete motion simulator. Same kind of price curve.

Regarding quality: all of the vendors offer excellent kit, all of the vendors have occasional issues. While Logitech has a reputation for being pretty bullet proof, even they have some issues. Reading Thrustmaster and Fanatec threads on forums will show you the types of issues you might encounter.... Then again most users have no issues, you only read about the few problem examples on forums, the rest of the users without issues just get on with enjoying their kit.

I used G25 for 2 years, then G27 for another 2, GT3RS+CSP for a few weeks, then T500RS for another 2 years, and recently DFGT for almost a year.
Now switching back and forth between T500RS (at home) and DFGT (at work).

About the DFGT? Dude, rest assure you will not regret your investment.

The DFGT is still a cheap buy that is a full when it comes to it's package. Who knows, you can use it in GTA V if you're gonna play that game.

I would recommend attaching it to a wheel stand of some sort for increased stability and optimal positioning of the wheel. And if you're going to be using manual (i.e. paddle) shifting, the Gran TurGismo shifting paddles are what I would consider a must-have upgrade (the DFGT shifting buttons are pretty lame).
