Just a thread to see what view is most used by drivers in Forza 4. I use the cockpit view myself.

Hood view, not enough field of vision one 1 screen for me and the screen I use is too small

Cockpit, love the effort T10 made to model all the interiors that good and realistic.

+ The field of vision is a tad better than the cockpitview in GT i think. There i felt my view was a little too far from the action and I always had to put the interiorview enlarged (you have that option there), which in turn made me loose details like the gauges and dashboard then.

With FM4 i dont have that problem.

Car close. I'm as passionate as you can get about cars but for me wheels and cockpit views aren't close enough to reality to bother with. Each car's steering is unique and as far as I know won't be replicated fully on a wheel and you don't have any periphery effect in a cockpit, which really bugs me when I use cockpit views.

Agreed. I've used chase for as long as I've played driving games, some 12-14 years. But when I tried hood/bumper cam with GT5, it's like a whole new world opened up to me.

I mainly use hood view when I'm hot lapping and generally pushing the car which happens to be almost always. Car close is for a more relaxed drive where I don't particularly care about my lap times but just want to listen to the sounds the car makes. Cockpit view is quite hard for me to use as my TV is quite small so I don't have much vision of the track.

I actually switch views around, depending on what I feel like on the day. I'd say I mostly drive car close, and least drive cockpit. Cockpit view actually makes me nauseous. Wished there was a way to use a fixed cockpit view, without it moving all over the place. Is there?

Hood view. Cockpit is too distracting for me to concentrate on the road. Too many shiny objects!

Cockpit(the true view for a sim racer). Hahaha, laughing really hard.
Why not put (for posers and wannabes) by every other choice?

well I was going to put girls view but I didnt want to cause any offence :D

Cockpit view, almost exclusively. I might use hood view on a very few select cars with horrible visibility from the cockpit, though. Otherwise, IÄll stick with cockpit view. I'm also considering the instrument cluster to be quite handy while not using a HUD whatsoever.

Aside from the few times when I'm playing destruction derby with some non-simracer-frinds of mine. I'll switch to car far, in that case...

Before starting a race or pause the game during a race (Hotlap... etc), open up the HUD option and turn "Camera Motion Effects" off.

There will be some movement, but it should be a lot more stable than with the motion effects on. You will lose the tunnel vision effect in chase cam though.

I hope this helps.

It's off already. Is it even worse with it on? :ill:

Cockpit view for me, though I disagree with the added tagline.

I often use chase cam in games, mostly arcade-style racers, but it depends on how fixed/loose it is and the way it moves around. I figure if I'm gonna play a game with pretty graphics, it's a bit silly to never see your car in action. FM4's chase cam is better than some games, but I can't get a good sense of the braking zones.

For anything more engaging, I usually use interior view, since it allows me to get a feel for the suspension movement and angular momentum, especially with a moving cockpit.

Wait, you can turn off the stupid exaggerated FOV effect in chase cam with that option? Taking an 800hp car down the Mulsanne straight is like engaging warp drive with any view except cockpit, which is one of the other reasons I use it.

This might help alleviate my fiancée's motion sickness whenever she sees me playing, too. Thanks for the tip. 👍

Damn.. mostly we have to deal with wives/ girlfriends complaining we are "playing with our game" all the time, but yours gets physically sick from it also

I wish Forza had this option. Sometimes you're so far away from the windshield that it takes up less than 1/3 of the screen. Hopefully for FM5 they give us some quick POV adjustments/options in the pause screen.

Hood view. Bumper has that funky rear view mirror but it's harder to tell which way your car is pointing while skidding and cockpit has a very small field of view.

I like cockpit the best and use it often but I wish there was a way to eliminate the steering wheel from the game, sometimes it feels odd seeing my wheel and the in-game wheel.

Any game that relies on a wide, warped FOV to offer a "sense of speed" gets to her. Erratic framerates are bad too. Unfortunately, one of my favorite driving games (FUEL) has both!

I tried out the "Camera Motion Effects" option last night and it seems to work. It was a quick Hot Lap test and the track wasn't very fast (Camino Viejo), so I could hardly tell any difference, but we switched back and forth and tried a few views, and it seems that I can play in chase cam with the Motion Effects disabled without forcing her to leave the room. 👍

She can't just ignore the screen because the visuals and action are too eye-catching, if only for brief periods at a time. I don't blame her for that.

Mostly cockpit view, but when I play in public lobbies I tend to use car far. That´s mainly because of all the idiots who don´t know how to brake before a corner. I can see them coming and (try to) avoid them more easily.

No one uses bumper view? It's the only view I use... first off I get the best view of the road without anything blocking the way. Also, being low to the ground, its easier to judge racing lines/apexes.

Cockpit view is something I'll never use... maybe unless I have a 3 screen setup. You're already limited to how much you can see by playing on a single flat screen... covering half the screen with the 3D interior is like a double whammy. Also dont like the fact I see two steering wheels in front of me... To me my TV is the windshield... and just like in my tC, I'd rather not see my hood ;)

I do use cockpit view once in awhile to switch things up but hood view is my view of choice and the reason I don't use cockpit more is the same reasons as below.

Preference is preference, but how often do you need to see the sky in the upper edge of the screen or the pavement 2ft in front of your car?

I understand feeling a tad claustrophobic, or being distracted by a duplicate wheel, but you're really not missing anything with a cockpit view. Whatever passes the boundary of the hood/dash is probably not going to change much between the time you last saw it and when you roll over it. ;)
