What was your most "OMG I'm gonna DIE!!" moment.....

I recall finding a (live) bullet when I was younger and carrying it about, playing with it, chewing it etc. I had no clue of the danger until my dad spotted it, confiscated it and then went away and quietly freaked out. Kids, eh?

This was about a year ago and very stupid on my part. I was obviously going faster than the posted speed of 100kph, and was driving along a section of road that turned right gradually at a bit of an incline and then connected to a bridge.
It was about 5am and there were no other cars on the road. The previous day was pretty warm causing a lot of the snow we had to melt which later froze during the night forming some pretty nasty black ice as you got onto the bridge section. I hit the black ice causing the back to come out but being in the outside lane, by the time I started to countersteer I had hit the side barrier and started to spin violently.
Now I cant recall every single detail of what happened (everything seems like a slow motion blur during the crash) but I remember ending up on the complete other side of the road (crossing 3 lanes) and multiple impacts.

Here is the aftermath:

Epic crash.

Showed Joey up for sure.

When watching Napoleon Dynamite. ;) Or how about when eating a certain family member's cooking. ;)

Ok seriously.

Physical
I took a nasty blow to the back of the head in high school and was spewing blood everywhere. I was in shock until they said they had called an ambulance, at which point the seriousness of the situation kinda hit me at once.

Emotional
The first week or so after getting dumped by my first g/f. I was completely out of my mind. Every time I thought about it I thought I was going to puke. A buddy of mine was going through the same thing, we got together and got drunk around a campfire. When I woke up, he had 3rd degree burns on his arm from when he fell and lay on a hot rock by the fire. His condition plus the real likelihood of getting busted for drinking didn't help. Also, the hangover afterward was intense. I can't ever remember going through so much pain in my life as I did at the start of coping with losing her. But I think for my friend it was far worse.

Oops
The first time I really screwed up at work and got a stern talking-to from my boss I was feeling pretty horrible. It would take too long to explain what I did wrong, but basically I presented some incorrect numbers based on a really dumb mistake. At the time I was responsible for supporting myself and my wife.

Car-Related
Spun out on a patch of ice, fishtailed, and put the car in a ditch. Though, it doesn't really count because the whole time I thought at any moment I would regain control, that is, until I was looking at clouds through the windshield.

Stress
Getting a job after graduating stressed the hell out of me. I was on a deadline to get a job due to my wife needing to send off a grad-school acceptance at university. It was a horrible time to be interviewing and I think I'd been through about 30 interviews without getting any follow-ups. Unbelievably stressful time. Worked out though.

And BlackZ is right, your g/f missing a period is not funny, not in the slightest.

I have only one, happened in the army last spring. Somewhere in the forests of northern Finland.

I hadn't slept well for about two weeks, two hours a night and so. I had been chopping wood very early in the morning, went away for a while and heard someone else continuing my work. When I came back that person had disappeared (probably sleeping in the tent) and I decided to continue as there were still logs left. I wondered where the axe was and picked another log from the pile from my left (an important detail) hand. I felt and heard a very nasty clang of metal hitting metal and the next thing I felt was the axe in my wrist. It truly was an "oh 🤬 I'm going to die" moment to see the skin cut open by the axe.

But the blood never came. That clang had been the axe hidden in the log pile hitting my steel watch wristband and losing the most impact power there. It only cut the surface skin, the wall of the artery was visible but intact. Had I picked the log with my right hand the artery would have been severed, no doubt. Why I used my left hand, God knows as I'm right handed.

A table saw kicked my ass once. I thought I was done for.

Bet you didn't think I'd post that now huh?

I haven't had any really scary moments, like a near car accident or something, but I'd say I've had some semi-scary ones.

Once, I went with my friend and his dad to Petersburg, Virginia to watch trains.
At this particular train watching spot, there's a double-track CSX mainline right in front of where we were parked. To the left of that, a single-track Norfolk Southern mainline ran under it. Directly behind where we were parked was a road with one lane each way. It was a narrow, winding road, and on the other side was the embarkment down towards the NS line.
There was a production plant of some kind just a little drive away, and the semi trucks that serviced it were constantly driving down the road at about 70 mph when they should've been going like 30.
When an NS train was coming and no CSX's were, we would run across the road to the embankment to get a better view. My friend's dad would always walk into the middle of the road to check to see if there were no cars coming so we could safely cross.
I'd always be nervous when he did that, because one of those trucks could come at any moment and flatten him. It never happened, of course, but there were several close calls where the truck would come right after he got out of the street.

Kind of pales in comparison to the sliding, slipping and crashing of previous posts, but hey, I'm pretty young and haven't seen much.

:-)
