I had a think last night about what features or changes I would like to see added to GT4 to make it perfect for me and so I could look at it as your ultimate virtual driving, tuning, racing game.
I've decided to start a thread to post my ideas. I hope others will post their vision of the ultimate GT4 also.
Damage Not visual but a technical simulated feature should be used. An icon system with different colours similar to tyre wear should be used. Dark Green, Light Green, Orange, Yellow, Light Red, Dark Red, the last one simulating the complete failure of that part. Once all the parts are Dark Red the players race is over. If they just change colour they decrease in performance and they will be a standard bill for repairs based on colour and part type. It does not get much better than this to discourage people to race along the track walls and shunt each other. (Could be called Damage Simulation and would keep players and manufacturers happy)
Spectators - Have only the 3D spectators incorporated, with as many of them as the hardware can handle, and remove the 2D spectators. Impress using quality rather than quantity.
Paint - Allow for it in moderation. Ability to change the car colour would be an greatly missed feature since it would allow every player to buy the car and have it in the colour they want it in or keep it in the original manufacturer colour. The brake callipers or drums should also allow for painting as well as exhaust tips. This Painting would only be allowed on virgin cars that come in just a standard colour and would not be allowed on cars that have a racing or rally paint job or decals on it already. Driver helmets could also be painted. (Could be called Paint Shop)
Body Kit Parts - Different body kit parts like rear spoilers, front splitters, side skirts and bonnet intakes. Whole body kit choices should also be given, as there are manufacturers that specialise in that. This will add the fun option of having and tuning down force and adding little flare without interfering too much with the actual original look of car.
Racing Numbers - On the cars with custom paint jobs and decals never live the racing number slot empty. If for any reason the racing number can not be displayed then remove the actual racing number slot also.
Car Valeting - This really was a useless feature and should be removed or not re-implemented.
Tyre Usage - This should go to the next level and players should have to play for their new tires. If a player has pit stops to get new tires during races, these will also have to be paid for.
Tuning - Allow every player to have a professional standard tuning job done based on the parts it has at that time. This will give inexperienced players a quick way to have their car tuned. Of course seasoned players will tune their car according to race type, length, and track type as well as their style of driving. This will then give the best of both worlds. (Could be just another option in the buy performance parts, selection screen and called Racing Tune)
Online - Not achievable in a way that will be competitive with other online driving games on current hardware. Live this for the next Playstation and create car clubs, online racing teams, chat rooms, and 10 player races.
Network Play - Sponsor a Network Hub to allow for linking up to 6 Playstations and make it wireless and easy to install. Again this would be a must for players that have a lot of friends who share the same GT passion.
Memory Cards - Make or find a manufacturer and sponsor a 16Mb, 32Mb or even larger memory card. Serious fans will not think twice about purchasing it. Some currently have to have more than 5 memory cards to keep all their GT data. Since GT games are played for years and there are a lot of replays to be stored also. Not to mention pictures.
Cars - Some cars really should not be ignored in such a comprehensive list. Here are some I feel really should be in GT4: 1981 Ford Capri 2.8 V6, BMW Evo M3 E30 1991, 1987 VW Jetta GTI, 1985 Reliant Scimitar SS1. Perhaps not the exact year but these cars are classics in their own right.
AI -Try to make more than 5 racing lines around the circuit. With a random patterns make cars follow different racing lines individually. Of course by randomising this at times 2 cars may end up choosing the same racing line but at least this will not happen all the time. This of course with the already slightly improved AI should make it a much more enjoyable experience.
