Whats best, driving wheel or controller? Im tryin to get golds and i cant do certain tracks. I was thinking if a drivers wheel would help improve my times, but i dont want to buy one if it doesnt help. Any suggestions?

Simple common sense will give you the answer!

And what would common sense be then phil becuase i havent got a clue, that is the reason why im asking. Ive been looking at steering wheels but logitech is too expensive. I was looking at the ferrari thrustmaster and the datel super sports. Does anyone know if any of these are any good and if so, which is best?

I would say that if you're only really thinking about a wheel to do the Licenses, then I wouldn't bother.
Just stick with your DS3. :)👍

Simple enough :

If oyu have the money and a space to put it buy a wheel otherwise dont do it.

But having somewhere where you can fix your wheel is as important as having one, you need a good solid base and something to fix your pedal too.

If you can then you should, playing a racing game with a wheel is far more enjoyable.

A wheel should help improve your times but maybe not by as much as you want, and certainly not until you get used to it. Learning to drive better will help improve your times more than a change of controller will as a fast GT driver is a fast GT driver irrespective of the controller they use.

Also, I see you don't seem to be as "disklesic" as you used to be... Well done for getting better.

Several of my friends have gotten all gold in license test with a controller. It just takes patience and practice.

There is no shortcut.

I have silvered most of the license tests with my DS3. Once you get the controls set up in a way that's comfortable, you shouldn't have a problem driving anything. I have a DFGT and its great when i used it, but its practically useless right now since i don't have a good setup to mount it to. If your going to get a wheel, think about how your going to set it up. Anyone can just mount it to a desk and put the peddles on the floor and use your office chair or whatever, but that gets quite uncomfortable.

The guy is only asking a question ok, Its people like you that are putting me off this site, why "TRY" be a smart alec Mr Know it all ? You might think your knowledge of GT5, PS3 and accessories are boundless but not everyones is. If you have no decent input to someones question then don't answer simple, Pretentiousnesses is a very ugly trait for a person to have remember that.

Have you ever thought people make "These useless threads" to annoy people like you who give useless answers. ?

I have done all my licenses on gold, i just need gold on vettel, gold on toscana night and eiger grand rally and also gold on the merc amg academy and im done! But i just cant get past silver. Gamestation are sellin there brand wheel for £15 tomorrow on sale but no returns and i know it sounds tight but i dont want to waste that money if i wont benefit from the wheel. Im so close but not enough. Any suggestions?

Hi Rambo, First may i congratulate you on your improvement in your Dyslexia lol It is something that i have suffered from myself since joining GTPlanet and warnings about my Grammar from the moderators seem to have helped my condition no end, It would maybe be a good idea for these guys to go around schools warning kids about Writing and Phrasing they're sentences better as it seems to have have worked wonders on here lol To try and answer your question mate all i can say is that even if it doesn't improve your lap times (Which i am sure it will after a few weeks) it will certainly make the game much more enjoyable.

When you title a thread it should be more descriptive than "What's best?"

Yeah i admit the grammar is a pain in the arse but theres not much i can do. I know what you mean about practise and trust me i have! Ive been stuck on the eiger for 2 weeks and im 0.179 off gold but i just cant seem to do it. I have seen people mention about deleting the game data as the earlier gt5 pre patched was easy times and tracks and im not sure about trying to give that a go?

If you don't mind losing everything and starting again mate you could do, I haven't heard of the patch ups making anything harder in the game although you could maybe ask the smart arse at the top who seems to know everything about everything lol I wish you luck and hope you stick with the wheel you will get there mate. :)

wheels are great. but without a driving rig thats comfortable and doesnt have to be dragged out of a closet and set up everytime u want to race, there maybe not worth it. a decent wheel and pedal set, with a rig can easily be 700 bucks. there pretty big and dragging them around the house is a pain. i ended up converting a spare bedroom into a racing room, because the rig ruined the function of the livingroom when set up. just explore all the details before jumping in.

i was looking a bit closer to the budget of about £30. ive looked at a gamestation one and a super speed 3x one i think. i was just trying to find out before i decided to buy one if it would help my gameplay a lot or not?

in that case. on the cheap. my friend uses a 50 dollar wheel, no pedals. tied to an upsidedown hamper. we race online together and its very close everytime.

lol, that sounds like my type of setup. so do you recommend to get a wheel then?

sure you bet. its a lot different at first. the cheaper wheels have paddles for gas and brake and i believe 200 degree rotation, vs. 900 degree rotation with the more costly ones. so it will be pretty snappy. cant hurt. take your first step into a larger world. -ben kenobi.

Wheel is good for hugging the corners and shaving seconds off your lap time if your good with it. And the DS3 is good for the normal racer who wants it easier .

so funky would you say it would be best to get a wheel?
Yes mate just for enjoyment purpose's i would get one and as a bonus i am pretty sure your times will improve also, my wheel was not expensive at all and i have great fun and have beaten people who use G25 and G27 wheels so you go for it mate.

Great, what wheel have you got and how much do you remember paying for it? Gamestation do 1 for £15 but not much force feedback and the other is a datel super sports 3x at £18. Im stuck which to get, what would you recommend?

The Datel is suction caps i think which i don't like and mines doesn't have force feedback or rumble or anything really, but i can still beat people in G25 or G27's :) You could give the other 1 a try although if its a clamp make sure you have a decent table or something to clamp it to, good luck and let me know how you get on mate. 👍

Top two post and caitlan: why are you so rude for geez. He's obviously new and dosnt know but you don't have to be an ass about it! -_-

What's best? Using the search function before starting a new thread.
Using a title that gives some indication what the thread is about is also "good". Eg: "wheel or controller better?"
