Whats David Blaine Playing at?

The problem with Blaine is that he's a brilliant magician. He's ruining what could be an phenomenal career by doing this stupid stuff.

My brother joined the Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey circus about a year ago, and has been doing magic for many years, so I've been exposed to the 'magic' scene. Blaine is good, damned good. I'm just kinda disappointed that he seems to throw away talent to do silly stunts like this.

Ummm.... not too sure about that. We allow most nuts to do whatever the voices have told them to do so long as they don't put anyone else in harm.

Tell ya what, I'll nip off down there tomorrow lunchtime and take a look.

there not my politicians buddy....i dont live in england..we have our own politicians here in scotland....it is probaly a blunder by the city of london for believein that Blaine is a bigger star than he actually is...

i dont doubt he'll get paid a lot of cash for doing it...he's still a fanny....

Apparantly someone tied a burger to a remote control helicopter and flew it round his box. I wish I'd been there...

There's a TV camera in his box. You can watch him on one of the digital channels here. Why? He's not doing anything interesting. Sure, if he does it then great, but he's sitting in a box for 44 days. How exiting. Even Big Brother wasn't that bad.

Magician David Blaine has faced the most dramatic attempt yet to foil his latest stunt.The illusionist was woken just before 5am on Tuesday by a man scaling a scaffold support tower connected to his cage.

The man then tried to cut through the cable supplying water to the 30-year-old during his 44-days of self-imposed starvation.

London's Evening Standard newspaper said the attacker also tugged at other vital mooring cables, rocking Blaine's makeshift home, and shouted: "Go home David, go back to America. We don't want you here, I'm going to rock you."

Huh? They already know about him, too. And he doesn't need one with you people, and probably everyone else who thinks he's an "anus" rambling on about him.

In case nobody has noticed, he is "playing at" this. Everybody is talking about him. Anyone who had never heard of him before will now know who he is. His stunt is a complete and total success.

Yeah, but milefile, there's good fame and there's bad fame. He is accruing bad fame. He is a self-publicist, which of course means he's successful because we're all talking about him.

However, most of us loathe him. I would rather remain the anonymous person I am than be reviled by most of the Western world.

I'm going to assume that is an exaggeration.

I've often wondered how certain famous poeple get by knowing that a precentage of people hate them. This is true to varying degrees for all famous people. Blaine is famous and probably rich (if not now, he will be), and I'm sure he has his crowds of adoring fans. All he has to do is ignore the people who revile him, which all his fans make very easy to do, and he's living the good life, no matter what you or I think. It must be a calculated risk, a conscious decision to be rich and famous. Whether he's an ass or not, he is getting what he wants and no perceived moral superiority on my part changes that. I've often wondered why people don't just ignore things that bother them. It's the only hope for them ever going away. Even the people who are taunting Blaine with food are helping him, and he knows it.

So I guess I'm saying that to people like him, this is irrelevant. For them there is only fame at any price. Nobody will ever change their, including David Blaine's, mind. Carrying on about it only helps him.

Its difficult to ignore him though....its always shoved in youre face when your least eexpecting it....

i turned on Chris Moyles or should i say 'the David Blaine publicty circus'....he just goes on and on about the guy....hes on the TV, on the internet....its doing my head in..there is no sanctury from this....

if he would just FOAD, i would be a happy man....

Yeah, but TurboSmoke, you should expect that from Moyles. He's one of the biggest media whores out there. He only ever talks about what's in today's papers.

Yeah,.. he's the best street magician I've ever seen (on TV),... I wish I knew if the levetation bit was a TV trick or not,.... the people on the street seem just as amazed by it as I do.

The dude has a ton of talent,.. in fact, I guess I'll be the first one here to officially jump on the DB bandwagon. Yeah, I know magic is fake, but hey, if he can stir this kind of attention, he's gotta be doin somthing right

the same man that claimed to walk through the great wall of China had to call the elevator engineers out after getting trapped in one at his luxury mansion.....errr...perhaps he could have magically walked through the walls....

you know, he came to London to pull off this stunt and the people here have actively tried to ignore it....the 44 days without food was to prove that when Jesus spend 40 days and 40 nights in the desert, he has nothing on the mighty David Blane...

I heartily disagree. The record holder was 43 days...

But I think there bigger records. Can anybody confirm?

Yep there was a guy back in the 50's that went 70 odd days, think it was Brighton (UK) although he was a new yorker.
