Another question...after football and cricket, how important is motor racing to the sports-following public? (Since I keenly followed international motorsport, I always figured it was much more popular than America, but I'm not so sure of that anymore.)
ITV (one of the 'core' or terrestrial (sp?) channels always does the F1 and I think Superbikes. You usually get WRC highlights on Channel 4, but rarely is it more than half an hour unless it's rally GB.

BTCC and the support races (Carera cup, clio cup) are shown on Motors TV which is easily available on NTL and SKY digital.

Altogether it's not huge, but alot of people have some idea what's goin on in F1 and there'd be up roar if they considered cutting the British GP.

BTCC is also shown in hour long slots on ITV too. Football is the national sport, I'm more into football than motorsport.

Why?

It's just another country we didn't discover, occupied for a while and then left. If they mentioned all of the countries formerly in the British Empire, there'd be no time left for any other lessons...
Probably all of those countries you're talking about aren't superpowers that have the power to demolish the world. ;)

Well I got a question. What is a Chav?

And most of the conservative people voted for Bush, which includes my dad and probably me if I wasn't still to young.

People voted for Bush since our alternatives were even worse: Al Gore and John Kerry. :yuck:

You gotta vote for the lesser of two evils.

I eat black pudding and it bloody lovely.

I actually quite agree with you there Scaff, I have had it once or twice, and it was delish!

Tossing your tea in the Boston Harbor. Shakesphere and Monty Python's Flying Circus are important literary notables. (Does that count?)
What a waste of tea... And weren't the Monty Python boys poms?

I think thoes questions were rhetorical, but anyway. One thing we do have in the UK is plenty of farm land, we used to have wolves, but they were exterminated. Before the RSPCA . We still have fosex, red and grey squirrels and such, I see a few foxes where I live, theres an old Stockport to Liverpool railway line that runs near my house, not been used for ages. In some places the track is still there, but it's all covered with bushes and trees and such now, you get a lot of animal life in there. We also have the best league for the best sport in the world.

ya they were rhetorical lol but it seriously americans get into car accidents mainly becuase were either vicious drivers or we are under the influance.

Yeah, I was kidding. On a more serious note we do have some absolutely great roads with millions of fabulous corners on, which I believe is the main reason we lead the world in motorsport: we have corners and we know how to use them. A bit like you and guns :D

The only trouble with those corners is that we also have a lot of hedges and dry stone walls, which can be hard to see through, and we also have waaayyy too many cars on the roads most of which seem to be Volvos and Rover 25s driven by old people. So, to get away from all that, I love going to France, Germany and Ireland and letting rip there :D

Well... there are many good things about the U.K, although, however, thre are also many bad things. So I made a list of them...

---Pros---
Good food
Beautiful scenery
Lots of motorsport action going on
Wildlife
Good shops
Football

---Cons---
Chavs
Taxes
Ever changing climate (Although you get used to it after a while)
Speed traps
Police will pull someone over for going 31 in a 30 zone. But won't go to a shooting because there are too many dog turds on the pavement

The benzoboy verdict on the U.K:
If you can get over all of the cons, the U.K is a great place to live. Plenty of shops and restaurants and entertainment. And beautiful scenery when you want to get away from it all

8/10

And weren't the Monty Python boys poms?

All apart from Terry Gilliam, who was born and raised in America.

Just out of interest: a question I ask all Australians I meet out in the real world - do you know what pom stands for?

You missed out football.

Were very into our football here, and we're quite physical but it depends how good you are and how much stamina you have.

I Had to find out for myself. Aparently they are like wiggers in US except these fellas seem like they can get violent, and start slapping people:scared: :sly: .

Edit. Also why do you guys seem to have such problems with bullies? I guess its not totally unique but I hear from more than a few people on this site that they get bullied at school, and all those people happen to be british. Maybe it was the fact that i went to private school, or that i was 6'2" as a freshman in HS but bullies were never really a worry for me.

drive on the wrong side of the road, and talk funny.
No, you drive on the wrong side of the road and talk funny
And your (american) roads are straight-boring

: Yes we do have motorsports in the UK. There are several major circuits, including Silverstone (current host to the British GP), Brands Hatch (former host to GPs), Donnington (former host to European GP), Thruxton, Snetterton, Oulton Park, Knockhill, Mondello Park and others. The largest domestic series are British F3 and BTCC (British Touring Car Championship). The British F3 series used to be one of the most widely respected in the world

And why aren't they in gt4?:grumpy:

Quite right, America does have a lot of good roads.

However in comparison to the UK it is (rather obviously) a much bigger country and as such the 'highway' network plays a much more fundimental role than in the UK.

Its far easier in the States to go from point A to point B using just major roads, and there-for give the impression of boring roads. This suits the average traveller in terms if journey time, but misses out the interesting bits.

In the UK its far harder to do this, some parts of the country can't be reached by anything like major roads and you have to use more interesting minor roads.

Having said that if you want its more than possiable to put together a quick, but very boring journey in the UK. Last year I had to get from Sunderland to Swindon on a Saturday morning, apart from the first 1/4 mile and last 1/8 mile I completed the journey on just motorways and duel-carridgeways. It was without a doubt the single most boring trip I have ever taken, but it was easy and quick.

I have a similar thing when I have to work in Scotland, as from Swindon you can drive to Strathclyde without leaving a motorway or duel-carridgeway, and at around 7 hours or so, thats a damn boring drive. On that one I always stop off in the Lake District for a spirited drive around the Lakes.

US road should not be judged just on what we see on TV and Films (always a danger from Europe), they are far more than that. Now certain states and places will be better served in this regard than others, but thats certainly no different from the UK, Europe or the rest of the world.

Anyone not sure that the US has good drivers roads should take a look at this and tell me they would not like to give it a go.

I would however add that while I do believe that the US certainly does have a good number of drivers roads, I still would not swap a good English B-road for anything else, I grew up driving on them and love them, potholes and all.

What is the different between North and South england? What is the national opinion of Geordies and stuff?

The South is stupid. ;)

They leave the skin on fish before eating them:yuck:

Also about the UK, if you haven't seen over 80 Focuses or Mondeos per day, you are either blind or dead.
