What's the car wash for?

I'm a firm believer in the 'dirt-affects-drag' theory. Take a car to the test course once and drive as consistant as possible on new oil and car wash for 70 miles,.... you'll notice, once the car begins to get dirty,(at 70 miles) your times will very slowly decline ;) Wash your car and change your oil every 70 miles whenever possible :D

Hmm ok. i just did a 100-lap race on the oval track, the last track race in endurance races. maybe i didn't look hard enuf. will check it out later. thanks. ;)

There are a few rides that it may not effect (cars that can't get dirty). One example I'm sure of is the F1's,... they can't get dirty I don't think.

The example that comes to mind first, where I originally noticed the phonomenon, was in the R390 GT-1 LM Race Car,..... at test course, run & setting.

Get a black F1 or any black car, add some black wheels (will help show difference). Drive it for about 120 miles without washing. Go to the carwash and WITHOUT WASHING IT look at the car, especially the windows. Remember what they look like (close your eyes if you have to). Wash the car. Look at it again, its shinier...

HAHA. yeah i didnt see it the first time i did the car wash. then one day i actually closed my eyes right b4 i did the wash...and you definately see the difference, especially on a black car. It even says in the book or on the screen that the dirt on your car effects aerodynamics, which is the reason that the car wash is there. so yeah, it does effect str8 line performance if your car is dingy

The car I've most noticed the dirty effect with is an orange TVR Tuscan Speed 6. (Is the actual name Chameleon Orange Pearl or something like that?)

It quite quickly becomes a sort of rusty brown.

yah that's true...all the chameleon colors get to a dark rusty shade after at least 70 miles, then after you wash it...you should notice a significant difference in the tone of the color

You can tell the difference in the color dullness with light colored cars...you just have to look at it before you start racing it then after a few races, depending on how bad you drive, you will see a difference, I know I have.

All cars get dirty, and its noticable not only in replays but in your garage aswell when u r checking ur cars. So the car wash is definitely neccesary, also before u wash ur car look at it closely, then after u wash it u will see a difference in the colour of ur car. As the dirt can get into ur engine the cars speed times will reduce as Drifta and a few others mite have said, so after the wash all that improves!!

Also a change of oil at least every 70miles is required as it determines horsepower. You can also see the colour of the oil change as it gets older.

Yeah, oil changes are essential as well, as someone had made a thread about oil changing too and I explained along with some other people how it slows your cars down and that you should look at it every once in a while because the last thing you want it having the oil change light turn on in the beginning of the second lap in some random race.

It actually depends in the horsepower of the engine as the horsepower increases the oil is used sooner than if the car has a lowewr horsepower.;)

Actually the dust increases aerodynamic drag, so washing the car make it more efficient. Watch at a real track and you'll see the cars being washed right before qualifying or the race itself.
