Whats up with the Gas prices

supply and demand...

Really it's just the middle east fighting and the people over there who modify the supply so that our supply is low and prices go up...

I've seen 97's a little bit ago but now there back up to around $1.40

One time in detriot they were $5.00!

I live in the Rocky Mountains so gas prices are a little higher. Transportation costs of shipping the gas might reflect a price increase. Right now it's at $1.98 for 91 octane.

I miss the least coast for the gas, cus they had 93 octane on tap and in some places you could find 101 octane.

it's about that price here... :p

90 cents or so for the premium one

Ralph Nader would never except this argument, but Nader also is the "evil corporation" theory type.

PLEASE let me ask this. Why, in the name of all that is good and pure, is gas so damn expensive in Europe? They are closer to the Mid East, they have less demand....Can anyone provide me with a sensible reason why gas is so cheap in America compared to Europe?

BTW LoudMusic, that's what I was gonna say! Stealer! :D

Gas is higher because of environmentalism and funding programs.

High gas prices are part of the taxes for funding programs and part of the greater cost of refining the oil to fit the standards of the country.

Gas prices may also be set high to discourage the use of vehicles to try and reduce pollution. I am going to hazzard a guess and suppose that mass transit vehicles can get a discount, perhaps more if they are part of the state.

Price controls would also affect price. If the legal selling price is too low, the seller will not lower it but instead will maintain the high price. But he will lower it during tourist booms.

That's the stupidest damn reason ever! Are you telling me it's worth $2.15 more per gallon in Europe because they've got to refine it!?!??!?! What the hell is going in to that gas, twenty-four karat gold????

no. i also told you part of it is from taxes. price gouging, something which i have not looked into is also a possible reason.

and i am not an economics expert, but i doubt that unless you know the total cost of refinement you can determine how much prices will need to be raised.

refinement is for pollution reasons, and maybe other stuff. governments may also give tax breaks to oil companies for making the gasoline.

Yeah, but consider all the people and all the cars in Europe. For gas to be that high, refinement would have to cost much more than the gas itself.

Taxes? Don't we pay taxes here in the States, as well? Hey Aussies what's the price in Australia?

you need to study further, m5, the population of US dwarfs several european countries. we also have more roads than some of them. Our population is also greater than many of them.
and we have more cars.

my point is that the population and the roads on which it drives may not compare enough to the US to suggest that gas prices will be similar.

I understand, but if our demand is all about how much gas we want and their demand is also how much they want, why should theirs cost $3 more?

The roads don't make that much of a difference if any difference at all.

of course the quality of roads and number thereof makes a difference, it partially determines how much a car is used and therefor how often gas tanks are refilled. if they are refilled more often that should lower gas prices.

because more than supply and demand affect cost.

Talentless: Not nearly as much as all other factors. Car size, size of tank, quality of gas, etc. Road does matter, but not too much - it shouldn't affect price that much, wouldn't you say?

Yes, we need a Euro to comment and I still want to know AUSSIE GAS PRICES.
