Isn't it based on an R8C?
And audi didnt enter a factory car in the race that year[/quote]

In 2003, there were teams using the R8, Bentley won that race in 2003, that's why I like it... If it wasn't for Bentley that year, im sure an Audi would have won that race that year.....

The r8 was run by customer teams. Audi allowed a full scale run by Bentley with out a factory r8 in thr race. The Volkswagen group had a policy of brands not competing against each other. Its sort of changed now that porsche are part of the group

A car with two definite articles must be a good one. :p

On topic:
Nothing wrong with the the R18. I love them diesel power.

The Audi racing machines were a blast to drive in GT 5 , but now in GT6 they have been changed into something that is not as much fun to drive and even with tuning they are still twitchy. I hope that the next update addresses the issues that are happening to MR cars and that could change the way the Audi's are currently handling. I own all the race Audi's but they are a handful to drive.........

Some people don't seem to get that LMP and Group C cars have regulated power during races, so that they can last the duration of the race, and to save gas/tires.

Of course, if you run them all beyond the power specs they race with, the Audi comes out at the bottom because it doesn't have the same potential. How does anyone expect the 3.7 liter V6 Audi to compete with a twin-turbo 5.5 liter V12 Peugeot 908 without both cars being regulated to similar specs? It's fairly safe to normally put the limit of a reliable racing engine at a maximum of 150(or 200 - 250 with turbochargers) horsepower per liter. Sure, things like 80's F1 cars could get 1000+ horsepower from 1.5 liters, but you had to completely rebuild the engine after one qualifying run.

In my case, I love the R18, it handles very well and can actually put its power down. I so far have a Peugeot 908, a Audi R18, and a Sauber C9, all of which I keep limited to no more than 650 horsepower, at which level, the Audi and Sauber actually have identical PP levels. While the Peugeot 908 is 20 points ahead of both.

I'll run test laps later to test the speed of all three on equal horsepower levels.

There is no way the R18 could have beaten the Peugot 908 in 2011 with only those "official" 540 horsepower. The '11 R18 was able to go 325 km/h on mulsane straight, experts say the "real" horsepower of this car, while racing, were about 650.

That is why the R18 in GT6 is way to slow compared to the other LMPs. Like CNSpots1 said, with about 650 HP, the R18 is competitiv again and you are able to do similar laptimes the "real R18" did in 2011.

It's just slow compared to the other LMP cars. But, it handles very well. They also probably didn't make it as fast because it was included in the Anniversary Edition of cars.

Around Ascari, when limited to 650 horsepower. The Peugeot, Sauber, and Audi did the following laptimes.

Peugeot 908: 1:52.3
Sauber C9: 1:50.3
Audi R18: 1:49.3

All three laps were done with no warm-up, to insure that I didn't get adapted to any of them, and therefor, present any car with an unfair advantage. And I think this thoroughly disproves any claims about the R18 being slow, the other cars are just overpowered when it comes to output. Level the playing field with a power limiter and the R18 shines.

And to be perfectly fair, I expected the Sauber C9 to absolutely destroy the other two, but it seems that the R18 is just fast enough through the corners to come out ontop. I think they're fairly even in terms of overall performance, and this proves such.

because it uses satan's fuel, jokes aside, I've only driven it once during the seasonal events, I think the handling is great, plenty of downforce. Funny thing with the racecar in the present, they have less power than those in the past despite better aerodynamics and safety

Wowowow, hang on. What order were they done in?
Sauber C9 was first, Peugeot was second, and the Audi was done last.

That being said, the Audi was hardest to drive. The Peugeot is a bit understeery. And the Sauber is a understeering rocket with a primitive 5-speed gearbox and a dyson in the engine bay.

Ah. So in theory (ill do a full personal test tomorrow) 3 laps of the circuit in any different car gives a better idea of a circuit- it may be a minute different in reverse order but it could also make a different.

As I say, a theory.

I've actually spent a lot of time on the Ascari circuit in the Sauber however. So I myself think it was a fair comparison. It'd be easiest to say that the three cars are perfectly equal, because 2 seconds difference in a laptime is very small.

Over 24 hours I guess it adds up. But I think most just prefer to drive the others as they are exciting, compared to it.

I personally think I'm not naming mine Zooey but it'll be good with a nice tune-up

Because of the era it's one of the slowest in a straight line. Thing is you can put a turbo on it and still be able to control it, it is faster round a track and more enjoyable than anything else I've tried e.g. the Minolta.
I actually tried to use my R18 on the iA chamionship before the license test (the name escapes me), and I couldn't keep it steady over the bumps in Mount Panorama. I bought a Toyota/Minolta and I placed first with no trouble. The Toyota is a little more skittish when braking, but it stayed in contact with the track a lot better.

the top speeds at Le Mans in 2011 were about at 330kph. the peugeots reachead about 340kph. they were running with less downforce.

Yeah, the peugot got the better straight line speed, like in 2012+2013 the toyotas were faster on the straight.

The whole 24 minutes of Le Mans race in GT6 is overpowered. Why set the PP Limit to 750? If they want to mix group C cars and Lmps then simply take the limit to 680 (afaik the group Cs have about 676 PP).

I did the race yesterday and today in the 908 and R18......in the end i got so fed up, i installed the high rpm turbo in the 908 to finally win it (1114 HP! on 726 PP). PD beefed up the cars in that race anyway....nearly everyone of them is able to go 350 km/h on mulsane.

The 908 burns the rear tires much faster then the R18, but corners a bit smoother.

I liked the R18 alot, i have the Aniversary Edition it´s very gripy and it handles any corner perfeclty.

what's your rank with it on the current seasonal event at SPA?

It is almost too sharp of a car, is it real for it to behave like this ? Just dictate every behavior with throttle input, that's it, that's all. Strive for top honors, to the best throttle modulator out there.

finished top 3,000 with it after an hour, but i don't think all 100,000+ people bothered to practice with it as much as I did, per se.

I am top 5000 in it, set my record after 4 laps with the right setup...

'11 Peugeot is not the same car as the 908 in game though...

If you say so, i am ok with it 👍

*edited wrong information from my side*

Googled some facts: Fasted Lap from the R18 TDI in 2011 was a 3m25.289s

Nice telemetry vid (also 2011):

The GT6 R18 is nowhere near the "real" thing when completely stock.

Yeah the top end is definitely too low, but between 2010 and 2011 all the cars lost power when the engine size went down. R15 had the 5.5TDI V10, 908 FAP HDI(or something) had a 5.5 TDI V12. 2011 R18 is using a 3.7 TDI V6 and the new 908 was running a 3.7 V8....

those Peugeots racing the R18 were still the 515kw (700HP) ones.

They weren't, 2011 set the max engine size at 3.7L for Diesels and 3.4L for NA petrol engines. If they had been, Audi wouldn't have won that race as the old style 908's could do below 3:20 without much trouble. The Peugeot 908's lost the same amount of power that Audi did with the regulation change that year. Anyone running a 2010 spec engine in 2011 had a restrictor that only gave them around 550BHP.

The problem with the GT6 version is that it's got nowhere near enough tyre grip or downforce. The top speed isn't actually much of an issue from my experience, rather it just doesn't get there as fast as some other cars, I run 600/675 DF and it'll run up to 190MPH no trouble, with it a bit lower it'll go over 200MPH which isn't far off real life as they were running around 205MPH max, with the 908's being a little faster.

The issue in GT also is that you are racing them against Group C car and unrealistically powerful LMPs....all are doing 220 easily on the straights.....

I am never that great with Prototypes in GT in general and I could barely get the R18 in the mid 3:30s on RS. Bentley I am easily doing high 3:20s. Which that car was never that fast...

In theory if real world pecking order is actually in GT, cars like 787B wouldn't see the tail lights of a modern R18 or 908 around Le Mans past Porsche curves, and the only thing can keep up would be something like the 905, which were the only car in game did sub-3:20 time at the post Chicaned Le Mans. And they ran a shorter configuration of the track in early 90s...
