Whats with different online physics and downforce?

I mean offline drifting a 430 Scuderia is a dream but online with the same tune it is a slippery bar of soap. And in the samba bus- offline with max ride height swerving at high speed will make it do 45 degree side wheelies but online it barely gets off the ground.

Why are there two different physics settings? Why do my great offline tunes work TERRIBLE online?
 
The short answer in my opinion is that in offline mode a-spec there is no fuel or tyre effect whereas in online there is.

For example go to practise mode and run 2 races with identical cars, in the options before the race turn fuel/tyre depletion on for the first race and in the second turn it off. You will find that in the first race your car drives as it would online and when you you run the second with tyre /fuel depletion off your car will feel like it did in a-spec mode.

Thats only my opinion though, there are a few other theorys out there. Use the search facility and you will find several threads over 10 pages long on this subject where you can read a few other theorys to the difference
 
kaz has been asked that on twitter if im not mistaken... he said the only thing that changes is the steering angle for drifting. I think he said it is increased during drifting trials, or decreased but otherwise the physics are the same all around the game.
 
You also cannot roll over online. It is like GT4. It would have kept you semi-entertained in crashes that would otherwise be frustrating.
 
Maybe because in offline mode it's supposed to load the AI and there's no memory left for other things and such..

Just a supposition.

One of the problems is that it varies from car to car and track to track. That's why some people keep thinking it is only the tires and/or fuel weight. In the end it's almost like more of a bug than anything else. I think PD tried to make some basic physics tweaks but then failed to play-test it thoroughly. The results are that certain cars change tremendously and others don't (regardless of tire temperature), and certain tracks change more than other tracks. When you get a track that changes considerably combined with a car which changes considerably, things get really bad. (The best worst example I've yet found is the Alpine 1600s on Trial Mountain. There is a video in the thread above that I made which demonstrates the problem pretty thoroughly.)

from what i see, you just join lobbies with different physics restrictions.. Skid recovery, ASM, TC etc.. just do checking before enter.. for me everything works same way.. in offline everythin off and online everything off.. if someone playing with on just leave or other way what you like

PS and yes , tyres restrictions and temperature etc.. everythig just can effect this

My car always moves to the right on it's own when I'm online :S well weird

amazing, and mine to the left.. maybe we can try this together and support each other :)))))

I use the same settings and tires for offline and online.
 
Should probably consider continuing this in the thread listed a few posts up - otherwise we'll end up with two practically identical threads. Plus, there is some good information in that thread that might be useful to those just starting to discover this issue.
