Ive had numerous people mistake my car for something else and im curious what other people have experienced.đź’ˇ

What made me want to ask this is that a few nights ago I was pulling into a local gas station and they had a new guy there. I walked in and he asked what kind of car i had. I said " well its a Mazda Rx7". He replied "oh, yeah I had to take a second glance I thought it was a DeLorean".:dunce:

He is not the first to do it, I think another 2-3 people have asked my gf if thats what it is....

Then I have also had people call it a 240sx...at least we are on the same playing grounds here....

This is my car.:dopey:

Those are not what my car is.:)

Not to mention some also ask what kind of an engine I have in it and i ask "what do you think?" they always reply "A four banger?"

So What have others experienced with the un-trained eye of the public?

By the way I do know that most cars have 4 bangers in them and that A LOT of sports cars from the 80s looked like one another. :p

Everyone thinks my VR Commodore Ute is a VS, simply because the VS is more common I think.

Everyone mistakes my Polo GTI for a Golf GTI.

Which is probably a good thing?

I am Australian as you know and I have no idea what the difference is, infact, I didn't even know that they had those badges. All I know is that you have a Commodore Ute. I am into cars but when it comes to badges I suck, terribly.

EDIT: Three aussie posts in a row? New record!

There's not much difference at all, most notable is the VS has an Ecotec V6 badge on the fender.

A lot of people see the Pininfarina touch in my Pontiac Fiero GT and then ask, is this a real Ferrari.

I even heard a couple back in the 80is that went on a trip in Italy and people could not be convinced it was a US car and not a Ferrari test car, with Pontiac signs on the mule.

Some people have no car culture.

P.S. That is without the Ferrari kit obviously.

He has only added a bit of rice :sly:.
So they're paddy fields? The water concregates in those troughs, then he's going to plant rice? Does the heat from the engine means it grows pre-cooked?

!

I figure the water could stay in the troughs to grow rice. I think the precooked growing idea is brilliant, I wouldnt have thought of that :D.

PS: I saw that little edit you tried to hide which added that last sentence :dopey:.

I actually pulled this on a wrecker at the local exotic junkyard and equipment dealer. every time I passed this place, I'd see this thing sticking in the *can't GIVE it away* lot. i got a chance to stop one day, and what I always mistook for an early FB RX-7...turned out to be a BUICK! specifically, a Buick Reatta with deer damage

It's pretty easy to mistake an FC RX-7 for a Porsche 924, especially given the right (or wrong depending on how you view it) body kit.

I got pulled over the other night.

The officer said, "Oh so sorry to bother you, we thought you were a BMW".
Have to admit it was dark and i did pass them doing around 50mph.

My Car....

The cop seriously said that? What an arse.

People always ask me if my cars a 65 or a 67. Out of the all too many times people have asked me what year it is I have probably only had three people get it right.

I also had one lady ask me if it was a Mustang, I died a little inside when she said that, lol.

I expect, in the dark, the back lights of a Mk3 Escort like yours and the back of something like an E30 3-series do look quite similar.

I was in a parking lot with some friends, one of them drives a silver '06 GTO. Well his car was in a different lot, my car was a little ways off where you could see the rear of it. Some girl asked my friend if "that" was his GTO. "That" was my Civic. He died a little right there.

I have had several people ask me what year Mustang I have. I always respond with "This is a 69 Camaro, our 67 Mustang is at home".

Whenever I drive the Ranger, people always tell me "Whoa, nice Ferrari!" I have to tell them "Thanks, but it's actually a Ford Ranger." I can understand why thay would make that mistake. Sometimes, when I walk outside I think to myself "Who parked this brown Enzo in my driveway!?" But then I just realize that it is infact my Ranger.

A bunch of people right here on this forum asked why my B14 Sentra Coupe looked like an N15 Pulsar...

But why would they pull you over because they think you are a BMW?

No surprises... This thing always happen in M5BOARD where some members got pulled over for no traffic infringement but instead, the cops use their power to stop the cars and enjoy them. They check around the car and say ''Nice BMW you got there...''.

Owh cops...

A lady in her fifties asked me if my car was "one of those old American cars" I said yes and then she said: Camaro? eeeh no.

And people usually think that my 30 years old Corvette with a chassis mostly unchanged from 1963 is a race car:dunce:. All kids thinks so and that doesn`t bother me, but grown men also often thinks so (especially the owners:indiff:) and that worries me a little bit.

Most people don't even know that an Accord Type R exists

I do get asked if my BGW* is functional though.
