I am new to GTplanet, and this may have been asked already. What is your opinion on GT5's music (in race and menu). I am on the fence about it. Its good but its not my favorite.

Actually I quite liked the elevator music, but I hope that GT6 has some of the old menu music from GT3 and GT4, it was catchy

Besides, elevator music is part of GT! It makes it feel classy and posh!

I didn't like it, then plugging in my own list of tunes for the Menus and for replays.

This was mostly old GT and GT2 menu tunes... So really I didn't give GT5's music much of a chance.

I don't race with music though.

Music is a subject that there can't really ever be a definitive answer about as it's all down to taste. I think GT5 does a decent job overall with providing a bit of a lot of styles as well as a very good quantity of songs in total, but runs into major problem due to forcing one or two songs to always play in certain menus -- one of which is the menu you spend the most time in during your time in the game. This means that whether you like the songs or not they will get old, and in my case means I have no choice but to play with the music completely off 99% of the time.

From a more subjective position, I think that the menu music is quite good. It still retains the slightly unusual and often jazzy feel that has long been a charactersitic of the series, but has branched out into more styles and seems even a bit more "adult" which makes sense as much of it's fanbase has aged along with it. It does seem somewhat lacking in terms of more upbeat and energetic songs perhaps. Then again, I added a lot of the classical songs that only play in photomode by default so I guess that doesn't bother me too much.

As for race music, it seems a bit lackluster compared to the old games with less songs that really feel good to me to drive to. There are a few that I don't mind, but overall it does seem a bit less exciting and speed-inducing. Of course I don't recognize as many as I once did which might have something to do with that. Then again, I didn't like most of the songs I was familiar with in the old titles anyway. The race soundtrack in any game will get horribly repetitive and boring within a week at any rate, and it's really better to race without it even if it is enjoyable so you can hear the important sounds clearly.

Music isn't really that important anyway. If you have enough money for a gaming console, you should have enough money for some sort of device that can play music as well, rendering the games' music of little more than novelty value. With custom soundtracks available that becomes even more so(although custom soundtracks are fairly irrelevant themselves if you have another audio device nearby).

Bottom lines:
1 ) There's no accounting for taste.
2 ) I think the menu music and some of the photomode music is pretty good and a good fit for the GT series.
3 ) I think the racing music is a bit weaker than it used to be, but it would have been shut off in any case.
4 ) Custom soundtracks / external audio sources render it largely unimportant.
5,6,7,8 and 9 ) Starting and ending every track session with PNAU forces me to nearly always play the game with no music at all whether I want to or not.

And yes, there are several threads on this. I'm sure someone will link to one before long.

The previous GT menu and in race music is by far better stylistically! GT5's music is good, and not my favorite, but the GT5 menu music is a step back in style. GT4 menu music has more umph and a style, but GT5's music is more relaxed.

I kind of like the in menu music, at least that was my first impression when I started playing. But that's it.

I'm sorry I have to disagree with most of you, but GT5 Soundtrack is simply a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

It's incredible how a not-just-a-a-racing-game-but-more-like-a-petrolhead-addicted-solution can have such a stunning selection of very good music, Well Done PD!!!

Congratulations for the game, for the music, for the happy nights you provide me cruising online on Nurburgring on Sports tyres!! :)

The intro piano pounding music is some of the most terrible music I have heard. I always mute the intro or skip it. 👎
All the other music I have turned off. So I don't even know what songs are in the soundtrack.

I have all music turned off. I can't understand how anyone can have a serious race with it on, you can't hear your engine revs properly that way. Mind you, you don't need to against the AI in offline racing as they're so slow.

The forced menu music is awful. I really don't know why they can't let us use custom soundtracks all around the game. I don't want to hear the jazz in the dealerships or honky tonk music in GT Auto.

Forced menu music? I haven't heard a peep of music since I turned it off. All I hear is my car start up and and the rev limiter when I hit the start line.

Edit, my post tells you my opinion of GT5s elevator music :)

Meh it's ok. There are a few good songs in the soundtrack, but for having 100+ songs, it's a really mediocre soundtrack. I mainly use my custom soundtrack now.

I turned off the menu music because the singing children were beginning to give me a passionate hatred for kids - other than that I find most of the music in GT5 to not be to my taste.

There are a few exceptions though such as "Soul on display"

and "Planetary".

The GT5P soundtrack was much better

they use the same 2 songs for every single race event. After awhile it was driving me crazy "baby I dont know"

disabled all the music well over a year ago

If you use custom music it plays in most menus but in some it doesn't, it always plays the default elevator music as you put it. So yeah, forced.

Your own music in menus would have been nice, agreed. I personally like being able to choose entire genres when selecting music. I listen Jazz and classic for the menus, and my own for in-race music, mostly hard rock.

I never play music while driving. The one forced cut that I hate is those kids singing, ugh. That's bad. The rest is inoffensive in my opinion.

I hate that over the top Racer Boy rawk out dude crap. Boring commercial hard rock is boring, reminds me of some Need for Speedrush fake excitement soundtrack for hyperactive pre-teens loaded up on Skittles.

+1
GT5 menu music is very good. It gives GT that classy feel. And it makes GT stand out as almost every other racing games play some kind of rock/electronic music. But it seems that the Jazz style of the songs is not to the comunity's tastes.
I just don't like the UCD music, and the GTAuto song seems a bit out of place.
Of course, that's all my opinion. I have some songs on my PS3 that I use with other games but GT music just pleases me.

I'm talking about in menus, I don't have music in races. I have custom music for menus but as I've said twice now, in certain menus the default music overrides the custom tracks.

GT5 is the only game that I can think of that has one of the world's greatest classical musicians (Sony pianist Lang Lang) on the soundtrack. When I first saw the video of him playing the theme song and talking about how he's been a GT5 fan for years, I immediately went out and bought GT5 -- I 've been having the time of my life ever since.

With regard to other musical categories, GT5 does an excellent job in my opinion. I have to admit that once I added my own music collection (a lot of Pat Metheny style jazz) to the game, the atmosphere of the game improved even more for me.
